|Kennuf's latest album (preceded by a 7-inch single) is named after his alter ego, Aki Kharmicel. Dating back to the early 90's, San Diego's Kennuf Akbar has been producing, recording and releasing music of all concepts and sounds. Akbar is both a partner and mentor to Warp Records recording artist Gonjasufi. Kennuf is that quiet genius in the dungeon on the MPC, but put him on stage and the inner-beast surfaces.|
The latest addition to Kennuf's dense discography is the story of his latest persona, Aki Kharmicel, ''a young producer/writer who obtains an outdated digital workstation from an old friend that doesn't know how to use it.'' Upon turning the machine on Aki discovers the digital workstation is a time machine. He travels to the 70s (string and doo-wop samples galore) where he's labeled a militant raptivist and the musical embodiment of Stokely Carmichael. Aki forms an alliance with fellow raptivists as the world wonders ''WHO IS AKI KHARMICEL?''
Each of Kennuf's albums has a story line that his music plays to as the backdrop. This first Aki Kharmicel episode is the perfect introduction to the master that is Kennuf Akbar.
Stay tuned for ''The Return'' of Aki on Gonjasufi's new label, A.I.R.
