DESCRIPTION
Tracing back the first Nintendo beat used in hip hop might be kind of hard, and doing a whole album using video game beats has been done before. But Random aka Megaran has managed to also rap about his love for the Famicom (that's the Asian name for the NES) while intertwining these stories and reflections upon his own life with hip hop over a backdrop of beats by Panacea's K-Murdock and, of course, plenty of familiar and glorious 8-bit samples and music. Random is one of the first independent artists to secure an exclusive licensing agreement with a major video game developer. This love for the Nintendo is no gimmick, it is his life, and it was for a lot of us growing up in the Nintendo generation. Nostalgic and never treading on redundancy, Forever Famicon is the right way to do it, and a lot have tried and only few have succeeded with the vid-game beat attempts at not being too corny or just doing it just because. It helps when you actually have skills on the mic and the right person behind the boards. Definitely recommend this for its all around quality and certainly to fans of Super Barrio Bros.
