DESCRIPTION
The Heliocentrics follow up their 2009 Now-Again collaboration with Ethio-jazz legend Mulatu Astatke with yet another collabo that nowpairs the UK group with ethno-musicologist, jazz maestro and multi-instrumentalist, Lloyd Miller. Learning various styles and immersing himself in New Orleans jazz via his father, who later landed a job in Iran in the 50's, Miller would then pursue his passion to learn Persian music, and went on to play various Middle Eastern and Asian instruments. During the late 50s, he toured Europe heavily, basing himself in Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Germany (where he played with Eddie Harris and Don Ellis) and, most famously, in Paris where he worked with innovative jazzman, Jef Gilson, a phenomenon in French jazz during the early 60s. His reputation led to a high profile gig with Bud Powell and Kenny Clark. Miller returned to the Middle East during the 70s, becoming a renowned cultural journalist and landing his own TV show on NIRTV in Tehran under the name Kurosh Ali Khan. His show became a fixture in Iran and ran for seven years. Miller has since been a vocal ambassador for preserving the traditions of Persian music and interest in him has grown. Especially with the exposure from the Spiritual Jazz compilation released by Now Again and Jazzman Records which featured a cut off Miller's 60's album Oriental Jazz. Jazzman is set to release a compilation album covering his career, he has been offered to record with Nostalgia 77 and was able to record this album with the Heliocentrics earlier this year. Music lovers...don't pass this up.
