Koushik specializes in making that hazy, hip-hop-based downtempo 'ish, but what sets him apart from the others is a beautiful '60s psych-pop element that tends to pervade throughout. It shows itself in the spacious panned strings, acoustic guitars, and harpsichords that fall in and out of each other; and the beats have a harder regimented classic true school hip-hop sound. Being so used to his other solo releases where Koushik even lays down the vocals of some sunny, hippy, folk-hop stuff, we were blown away by his recent Rhythm Trax contribution and now the The Beep Tape expands on his ear for traditional hip hop as well his penchant for finding some of the trippiest and most original dusty breaks and loops not based in funk or soul. Sometimes goofy and choppy but all worth it and definitely headnod worthy. 30 beats in all! For fans of Tobacco's Fucked Up Friends.
