YNQ broke up: These words from Stones Throw Records; that Madlib's virtual group of over 6 years had disbanded. Truth be told, for the one band saying its goodbyes, Madlib has painstakingly brought in 10 more groups to hold the torch. The result, is arguably Otis Jackson Jr's best album yet under the guise of these umpteen aliases, spouting jazz melodies and funk-filled stomps. His chops are noticeably improved and expanded here (with a little drumming help from Karriem Riggins and Mamao Azymuth), managing to sound much more like a jazz musician, and less like the earnest hip hop artist striving to think outside the hip hop box. With the future ahead of us, there's no telling where he will go from here, but best be sure, after hearing this album, you will certainly dream!
