The future is now! After a five year hiatus since Fantastic Damage and four years in the making, EL-P, while always hard at work with everyone on his label, is now finished with his sophomore album and it was well worth the wait. Thickly layered production and exlposive build-ups, it is hard to believe that music this loud and in your face, is put together with such delicate time and patience. There is a sense of urgency felt in each song and in every lyric, as EL-P always takes things to the next level pushing the boundaries and honing his aggression on the current state of our dying world. This should be exactly where you pictured him 10 years after Funcrusher Plus, the music is innovative, inventive and imaginative. Featuring guest spots by Aesop Rock, Cage, The Mars Volta and Trent Reznor of NIN!!! One of the best albums of the year so far!

Produced by El-P. Cuts by Mr. Dibbs on Tracks 1, 2, 7 and 8. Cuts on Track 4 by DJ Big Wiz. Additional Production on Track 10 by Trent Reznor. Additional guitar by Matt Sweeney on Track 1 and on Track 13 by Kareem Bunton. Additional keys on Track 9 by Daryl Palumbo and on Track 13 by Ikey of The Mars Volta. Additional Moog Liberation played by Wilder Zoby on Track 1 intro and Track 7. Buzuq on Track 8 played by Daniel Kaufman. Additional Vocals on Track 2 by Hangar 18, 3 by Mr. Lif, 8 by Mr. Len, 9 by Camu Tao, 10 by Rob Sonic, 12 by Joey Rai, Slug, and Murs.

Pros: El-P is so complex on this and original that its an amazing ride from start to finish. The production is unbelievable and complex, I LOVE IT! Extremely original and some great guess spots. El-P puts his all in his rhymes.

Cons: This shit is extremely complex and takes a ton of tries to try to decipher it.

Overall: This is the first album I have purchased for all year. This was a blind buy for me but it was worth it. Cold Vein, Funcrusher, and now his latest masterpiece... Ill Sleep When Your Dead. El-P is a very straight forward MC as he raps even ten times off beat and Aesop would. There's really a lot of complexity on this album and ALL beats are amazing on here. I would have to say that the beats are off the fucking hook, I just love how complex every single beat on here is! El-P experiments with tons of sounds on this such as his out of this world beats such as on Tasmanian Pain Coaster and Habeas Corpses (Draconian Love). Probably the only thing NOT to expect is to love it on its first couple of visits. At this point I'm probably on the tenth plus spin and I'm loving this album more and more. Have I said how insane this album is... its quiet amazing! This album is also fun at the same time as he puts you in differently perspectives from time to time. Caution before listening: make sure your space suit is on before blast off!
