Adriana Evans - Nomadic CD

Who is Adriana Evans? Her self titled debut from the spring of 1997, alongside Erykah Badu's "Baduizm", helped usher in what would later be dubbed the "Neo-Soul" movement. No longer signed to a label, her second album "Nomadic" was previously only available for sale at her shows or her website. It is a departure from her first album in that it draws its inspiration from many genres of music, including samba, reggae, rock, hip-hop, and jazz, but all VERY soulfully composed. An extremely unique sound that defies description, it can only be truly understood when you give it a listen.

Beak> - Beak> CD

Portishead producer and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow formed Beak> earlier this year with two fellow Bristol musicians, Billy Fuller and Matt Williams. So how did Barrow make an album so quickly after spending more than a decade on Portishead's Third? Easy: He forced himself. The band has some pretty rigorous guidelines in place. They record all their music in one room and they don't use overdubs. The band wrote their entire album over the course of one 12-day session. In a statement about Beak>, Barrow says, "It's really good to create music under different conditions than you're used to."

Bekay - Hunger Pains CD

Hunger Pains is the latest full length release from underground heavyweight Bekay. Over the past few years, Bekay has created a loyal, cult-like following in the underground hip-hop community by relentlessly recording, performing and grinding. Known for his complex imagery, shock value and clever wordplay, Bekay has established himself as a rather controversial figure in the hip-hop game. The former 106 & Park contestant and Rawkus 50 alumni joined forces with the burgeoning Brooklyn-based Coalmine Records to craft a body of work that will clearly be defined as Bekay's benchmark release to date.<br><br>Hunger Pains is a project that took several years to complete and enlists several noteworthy guest appearances and producers. From hit maker J.R. Rotem's cinematic production on Visions, to the legendary Masta Ace on the DJ Babu produced feel good summer anthem "Brooklyn Bridge", to the smash single "I Am" produced by The Alchemist, Hunger Pains showcases the rare unification of an underground rapper with a major label sound scape.

Edan - Echo Party CD

From the detail-obsessed mind of Edan comes an astounding pastiche of dance, rap and punk utilizing everything from turntables to tape echo, glockenspiel to guitar, moog to kazoo. Ever since the success of Edan's 2005 sophomore release, "Beauty and the Beat" people have been fiending for more. After it became clear that a new album was nowhere near completion, Traffic Entertainment "had a eureka moment. We approached Edan with a unique opportunity; full access to Traffic Entertainment Group's extensive back catalog to mix and rework in any way he could imagine." The idea was a quick mix to get Edan's name back out there while highlighting Traffic's lesser known but quality back catalog. As it turned out, Edan transformed "Echo Party" into a colorful full on production album that also features him as a musician on live instruments including synthesizers, guitar, percussion, echoplex, even glockenspiel and kazoo. Elements are pulled from original multi tracks and isolated accapellas and drum breaks that have not been heard by any ears except the engineers and original artists on the original sessions. Other portions are more identifiable though obscured by the filter of Edan's ever improving studio techniques. Only Edan with his wild creativity crossed with borderline compulsive obsessions could have made this CD!

Georgia Anne Muldrow - Early CD

These are Georgia Anne Muldrow's "Early" recordings. She wrote, produced and recorded this lean, ten track album entirely by herself, but the sound of its backdrop and the maturity of the themes that accompany it showcase an intimate knowledge of rhythm and syncopation well beyond her years. Seventeen years young with an old soul, Georgia managed to blend the composing acumen of Roy Ayers and J Dilla with the vocal stylings of Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill. The results are both hot and cool, bitter and sweet, inside the lines and outside the box. Not nearly as experimental as her previous releases, these early recordings add another piece to the puzzle, further displaying the broad scope of her gift.

James Pants - Seven Seals LP

Having given birth to a music career and to a human child within the span of a few months, celebrated percussionist James Pants withdrew into solitude for some weeks in the year 2008. Hermetically ensuring his privacy in his remote cabin in & around Spokane, Washington, Pants spurned the noise and clatter of the globetrotting lifestyle, as he nurtured his seed in the form of beautiful baby girl Olive, and took to penning this concept album, now known as Seven Seals. For the moment, – with the exception of his recent touring of Europe and China, wowing the throngs with his exhilarating live ensemble Royal Zodiac – the reclusive Pants occupies himself almost entirely with his offspring, and the disciplined study of oceanography, astronomy and gourmet Latin cooking. Vinyl release is packaged in a "tip-on" style jacket, and includes a "Land Of The Aqua Sun" Newsletter authored by James Pants himself.

Jimi Tenor & Tony Allen - Inspiration Information 4 2xLP

Strut's Inspiration Information moves on with the fourth album in the series, a mouthwatering head to head between Finnish maverick Jimi Tenor and Afrobeat drumming legend, Tony Allen.<br><br>Jimi Tenor remains a fascinating enigma in modern day music. Consistently one of the best and most unpredictable live artists around, his work since his breakthrough album "Intervision" (Warp, 1997) to a series of Afro-based albums with his band Kabu Kabu.<br><br>Tony Allen continues to attract new fans as one of the greatest drummers alive today. Celebrated as the creator of the Afrobeat rhythm and a lynchpin of Fela Kuti's Africa 70 band, his recent work has included The Good, The Bad & The Queen collaboration with Damon Albarn and his first album for World Circuit Records released earlier this year, "Secret Agent".<br><br>Recorded at Lovelite Studios in Berlin with further sessions this year in Finland and Paris, the Tenor / Allen collaboration whips up a raw, heavy analogue sound mixing the full range of Allen's Afrobeat repertoire with Tenor's off-kilter brew of dark humour, tongue-incheek lyrics and tight, firing musicianship. The sessions involved key members of Tenor's Kabu Kabu band. Tenor's trademark range of home-made instruments rub shoulders with vintage keyboards and traditional African percussion.

Kosha Dillz - Beverly Dillz CD

In 2008 Kosha Dillz created Freestyle Vs Written, a 24 hour collaboration album with indie veteran C-Rayz Walz that earned him accolades across the globe from URB and Israel National News to SPIN Magazine. In 2009, there is a new direction: Beverly Dillz. Produced entirely by Belief, who is known for his range of work with artists from Murs and Beanie Man to El-P, Beverly Dillz translates as an uptempo, synthesized introduction to a spiritual fast life of the Hollywood underground via Garden State perspective, sprinkled with a touch of unorthodox "kosher" heritage and culture. With that not being the smallest of tasks, Kosha Dillz brings along guest vocalists Sum Kid and Def Jux collaborator Yak Ballz, as the only additions on his musically empowered vacation West.

Souls of Mischief - Montezuma's Revenge 2xCD

This is most eagerly awaited Souls of Mischief album ever! Montezuma's Revenge was created the old-fashioned way, with the MCs – A-Plus, Phesto, Opio & Tajai - and producers – Prince Paul & Domino - in the lab together from the beginning to the end of the recording process. "We rented a house" explains Opio. "Prince Paul came out, we had no distractions, we just did music every day. "It was cool" adds Tajai. "He had concepts, and it's good to have an outside perspective - it was a great process." The result is a cohesive, creative Hip Hop album, the kind of project you'd expect from veterans like Souls of Mischief under the auspices of a genius producer like Prince Paul. Souls first encountered Prince Paul while touring with A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul back in the day. But it was on a more recent tour with Handsome Boy Modeling School that the seeds of this collaboration were planted. So what exactly is Montezuma's Revenge? Tajai comments, "We recorded the album on Montezuma Street." The final product features 18 tracks of the quality Hip Hop you've come to expect from Hieroglyphics, with cover art by esteemed illustrator Steve Lopez (famous for his illustrations of Erykah Badu and others). Of course there's more to the title than the location of the recording, Tajai says "The deeper meaning is this album will make you crap yourself."

The Ghetto Brothers - The Ghetto Brothers Power 7" Single

The Ghetto Brothers were a gang founded in New York City's South Bronx in the late 1960s. They eventually spread to much of the Northeastern United States. Like the Young Lords, they were involved in Puerto Rican nationalism, including, in the case of the Ghetto Brothers, an association with the then-new Puerto Rican Socialist Party. Ghetto Brothers founder Benjamin Melendez, who left the organization in 1976, was also known as a guitarist. He led a band, also known as the Ghetto Brothers, which included his late brother Victor Melendez on drums. They released one album in 1972, which had only informal, local distribution. In the past ten years, "Power Fuerza", which has become shrouded with mystery, has fetched quadruple digits on ebay and become one of the most sought after New York records of all time.<br><br>Now one of the most enigmatic, purely New York records of all time is finally available to the masses. The Ghetto Brothers 45 "Ghetto Brothers Power" b/w "I Saw A Tear", which is a single taken off their full-length "Power Fuerza" LP has been polished up and re-mastered from the original record. "Ghetto Brother Power" is an anthemic powerhouse complete with wah-wah guitar, gang vocals, congas, and hard-hitting drums. It reminds us how strong and influential the Ghetto Brothers message was. Side B's "I Saw A Tear" is a heart wrenching ballad that has that classic Ghetto Brothers sound.

The Nextmen - Join The Dots CD

The album was born from The Nextmen's explosive and eclectic DJ sets, which have been the focus of global critical acclaim over the last 12 years. Making this connection between music they love, be it dancehall, drum'n'bass, instrumental and actual hip hop, soul, funk, dubstep, indie, leftfield, ambient, pop and straight-up hands in the air party jacking pleasers, is something Brad Baloo and Dom Search, always strive to achieve, weaving their way on 4 turntables with mastery and abandon, laced with their own sought after mash-up edits, bootlegs and specials. This studio record is certainly a reflection and reaction to what they have accomplished as DJs and is a natural follow up to their last critically acclaimed 2007 album, This Was Supposed To Be The Future.

The Slew (Kid Koala) - 100% CD

Back in 1972 the reclusive Jack Slew led a psych/rock band that released a limited (50 CDs!) album "Dust Commander." In 2005 Jack Rowlands started working on a documentary film about Jack Slew and his band. Rowlands approached Kid Koala and Dynomite D to create the soundtrack, using Slew's finished and unfinished material. The film may never happen, but the music meanwhile has taken on a life of its own, becoming a live show with six turntables and the addition of drums, bass, keys and guitars played by the ex-Wolfmother rhythm section and production by Mario C (best known for his work with the Beastie Boys).

Tittsworth - Here He Comes 12" Single

The gang at Plant Music is super stoked to release the third single off Tittsworth's debut album 12 Steps, a remix package by an all-star cast. "Here He Comes" features the voices of the ladies du jour, Nina Sky, who are currently killing it on Major Lazer's "Keep It Going Louder" as well as a hot 16 by club-rap sensation Pitbull. The A-side features a remix by Plant favorites Nadastrom of Dubsided fame, who turns out five and a half minutes of impeccable dancefloor heat with a middle dubstep section that simply stomps. Trouble & Bass' AC Slater then offers his signature bassline-house hybrid, with a monstrous low-end wobble nicely matched with a classic New York-style house percussion. On the B-Side, Plant's own Stretch Armstrong teams up with Holland's Jaimie Fanatic who has solidified himself as one of electro-house’s rising stars with his peak-hour "What's Happenin' To Ya" on Mad Decent. Stretch & Jaimie's remix features a guest vocal from Natalie Storm, an up-and-coming dancehall diva from Kingston, Jamaica. Finally, Cheap Thrills' own Rico Tubbs links up with his man Will Power for a bassline-rave banger.

Various Artists - Forge Your Own Chains CD

This compilation introduces a new direction for Now-Again Records and its owner, Stones Throw Records GM, A&R and producer Egon. With the same detailed, no-stone-unturned approach he used for Deep Funk (The Funky 16 Corners, Cold Heat), he tackles beat-heavy global psychedelia with Forge Your Own Chains. "Those of us birthed into record collecting by the Hip Hop midwife revered Jimi Hendrix as well as James Brown. We searched for albums by Mulatu Astatke and Power of Zeus with the same fervor," Egon writes in his introduction to the comp. Forge Your Own Chains showcases music from all corners of the world: Colombia, Nigeria, Sweden, South Korea, Thailand and Iran. The focus - in keeping with Now-Again's tradition - is on melody, driving rhythms and accessibility. Not one song is included on this compilation because it is from a "rare" album. Certainly, many of these songs do spring from albums that exchange hands for many thousands of dollars and many of these songs have never seen reissue. But these songs are all beautiful in their own right and work to form a coherent album. Psychedelic records, long the mainstay of older, grizzled collectors and seemingly quaint, are, in the hands of Egon and those of his generation, giving up new ghosts. And, with comps like Forge Your Own Chains, inspiring new investigations into our not so distant (and still very much alive) musical past.

Various Artists - Warp20 (Unheard) CD

Warp20 (Unheard) is an eleven-track collection of secret treasures rediscovered from the Warp vaults, stretching across the entire 20 year span of the label's history. The unheard and rare pieces include Boards of Canada's near-mythical "Seven Forty Seven" (the first music Mike and Marcus have let out since Trans Canada Highway in May 2006), pre-Incunabula era Autechre, Broadcast (a Nico cover "Sixty Forty" performed for a John Peel session) and Nightmares on Wax (DJ E.A.S.E. and Boy Wonder productions from the time of Dextrous) to name just a few. These songs have only previously been released on 10" vinyl as part of the $120 premium-edition Warp20 (Box Set). The CD includes brand new images and art direction by YES, and photographs by Dan Holdsworth. Warp20 (Unheard) is the final music release of Warp's birthday year, following Warp20 (Chosen), Warp20 (Recreated).

Wyclef Jean - From the Hut to the ... CD

DJ Drama presents all new material from Wyclef Jean (aka Toussaint St. Jean) on "From the Hut to the Projects to the Mansion." The utopian one-world sensibility that fuels Wyclef's political consciousness also informs his recordings, which fuse hip hop with as many different styles as he can get his hands on. This release returns Wyclef to his roots and is said to be a far more street record than his last few.
