1. Orko Eloheim - Forbidden Physics CDR

It's finally here! Orko fans worldwide unite and rejoice! I remember hearing as far back as 2006 that it was almost going to be picked up by Ninja Tune. Unfortunately nothing came of it and the San Diego underground hip hop legend worked on several other projects while perfecting and waiting for the right time to drop Forbidden Physics including his project with Odessa Kane and the Left Handed Scientists album with Anti-Citizens. He's also appeared on many other local artists' albums holding it down for the scene here and performs at too many shows to even count. This is quite possibly Orko's best and most refined work to date, handmade and all! Orko has been actively putting San Diego hip hop on the map for almost two decades and has never sacrificed his style for anybody else's interests...when you talk about people keeping it real, this is one of the guys who actually lives up to it. Whether he's rapping fast over drum-n-bass or the hardcore, spaced-out abstract beats that he is known for...Orko wants to remind us that he is and always has been hip hop first and foremost! One love, homie. <br><br>Please note that two bonus tracks cut from the final album ("All Expendable" and "Blast Off and Destroy") are available for download at <a target="fp" href="http://orkoeloheim.bandcamp.com">orkoeloheim.bandcamp.com</a>.

3. Eligh - Gandalf's Beat Machine 3 CD

Officially pressed on CD after previously only being available as digital download! It's been eight years since the last Beat Machine came out and Eligh has no doubt been busy with his crew and his own solo work along with side projects and plenty of production duties in the time that has passed. But under the persona of Gandalf, the Living Legends member has always brought something different to the table. These are abstract extractions of sonic sounds and samples and pieced together by an artist with no limits. Eligh's lyrics are poetry on paper, but part of Gandalf's poetry is his production and the only way to enjoy it is for it to be heard. Aside from maybe a little Berlin moment, this is a perfect fit in the Beat Machine series and you'll notice perhaps that it's a little more advanced as it's been so long since the previous two. Sure to be considered a new classic amongst fans and overall a dope and often trippy instrumental album.

6. Strong Arm Steady+Madlib - Stoney Jackson CD

In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album's conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta's tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It's a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chase Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother.

7. The Grouch - Three Eyes Off The Time CD

This project is a testament of The Grouch's longstanding career and touches on topics ranging from fatherhood, the impacts of the digital world on our society, as well as manifesting and living out ones dreams. DJ Fresh provides a head nodding, yet laid back sonic backdrop for The Grouch to cleverly inscribe his thoughts into. Steering away from the blips and beeps of the ever-encroaching world of electro-hop, The Grouch and DJ Fresh arrive with a project that is filled with pure unadulterated Hip Hop. "What I'm trying to say with the title is that, I'm well aware of what's going on in the world around me but I will no longer participate in the foolishness that has become the norm. I think it's time people get in tune with how powerful we really are." <br><br><b>The exclusive bonus track featuring Fashawn and Mistah FAB is only on the physical CD.</b>

8. Souls of Mischief - Montezuma's Revenge 2xCD

This is most eagerly awaited Souls of Mischief album ever! Montezuma's Revenge was created the old-fashioned way, with the MCs, A-Plus, Phesto, Opio & Tajai, and producers, Prince Paul & Domino, in the lab together from the beginning to the end of the recording process. "We rented a house" explains Opio. "Prince Paul came out, we had no distractions, we just did music every day. "It was cool" adds Tajai. "He had concepts, and it's good to have an outside perspective - it was a great process." The result is a cohesive, creative Hip Hop album, the kind of project you'd expect from veterans like Souls of Mischief under the auspices of a genius producer like Prince Paul. Souls first encountered Prince Paul while touring with A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul back in the day. But it was on a more recent tour with Handsome Boy Modeling School that the seeds of this collaboration were planted. So what exactly is Montezuma's Revenge? Tajai comments, "We recorded the album on Montezuma Street." The final product features 18 tracks of the quality Hip Hop you've come to expect from Hieroglyphics, with cover art by esteemed illustrator Steve Lopez (famous for his illustrations of Erykah Badu and others). Of course there's more to the title than the location of the recording, Tajai says "The deeper meaning is this album will make you crap yourself."

9. Awol One and Ecid - Awol One and Ecid are... CD

While touring the Midwest years ago Awol One and Minneapolis MC/Producer and Fill In The Breaks label owner Ecid began building the foundation for a classic collaboration. Two years and many L.A./ Minneapolis flights later they have constructed a cohesive album built on Ecid's trademark production and balanced by Awol and Ecid's knack for witty sarcasm and melodic hooks. Unlike so many forced and ill planned collaborations before them, this new duo had no intentions of just running through the motions, they wanted to make an unapologetic, raw and focused record. Hard beats, dark atmosphere...the kind of stuff I like to hear Awol One rhymin' on! Featuring guest appearances by Gel Roc, Sector7G, Capaciti, and Jordan Miche!

Gonjasufi (aka Sumach) returns with a second 7" leading up to his debut Warp full length, "A Sufi and A Killer", out March 9th. His soul-baring vocals are described by Flying Lotus as "Timeless Incredible Filth". "Koyboyz & Indians" is featured on the forthcoming full length and shows off Gonja's distinctive voice shrouded with producer The Gaslamp Killer's 70s psychedelic middle-eastern samples and electronic touches, while the B-side, exclusive to this single, is a slow burning sinister melding of mournful vocals-by-candlelight and a sleaze-infused funk.

So whatever you thought you knew about me, listen to this and you'll really get a good look at who I am.
DJ Platurn (of the Bay Area DJ crew, Oakland Faders) takes the 80's boogie classic "Midas Touch" by Midnight Star and cools down the vibe seriously, flipping it into a smooth and sexy number falling somewhere right in-between the West London broken beat era and a modern J. Dilla-in-outer-space inspired take on things. Skittering drums and heavy cosmic synths played by Crown City Rockers' Kat010 abound.

Finally! Now on limited edition purple vinyl! After almost fifteen years since Only Built 4 Cuban Linx came out, the long rumored and talked about Linx 2 is here and it's not half bad at all! Of course, this new decade for the Wu has sometimes been a struggle to remain significant and their sound may not always be the same as it used to be, which you can say about almost all hip hop nowadays, especially when it comes to veterans in the game. But the Wu collective has done more than show longevity and survival skills in today's mainstream ruled rap, as each living member continues to put out strong material and, for the most part, set aside their differences within the group. With people like The Rza and Ghostface and Method becoming stand outs in showbiz, they still remain loyal to their fans and the group. Controversy and disagreements and break-ups and make-ups occur in any major group this large. With a fanbase this demanding worldwide it comes with the territory, but whenever a new Wu release comes out, it's always a reminder to the general public that heads today are missing out on what it used to be to truly feel like a part of something like Wu-Tang with its impact and following in hip hop. Featuring production by Rza, Pete Rock, Erick Sermon, Alchemist, a beat by Dilla, Dr. Dre, Marly Marl and more, with guest appearances by almost every original Wu member as well as Slick Rick, Papa Wu, Blue Raspberry, Styles P and more.

26. The Whitefield Brothers - Earthology 2xLP

Earthology is the long awaited follow up to The Whitefield Brothers' cult-classic In The Raw. While In The Raw's hypnotic, defiantly psychedelic funk music was grounded in the great musical traditions of both America and Africa, Earthology finds the Brothers infusing their funk (or, as the Brothers prefer it, "raw soul") with musical traditions that span the globe. To achieve the Earthology's unique sound, the Brothers employed an array of instruments and put in a dizzying amount of research: traveling the world, joining different bands and ethnic performing ensembles, amassing and absorbing field recordings, trawling used record bins for lost examples of global psychedelic-fusion, over a period spanning some fifteen years. Like In The Raw, Earthology is grounded by a "raw soul" band's building blocks: drums, guitar, bass, keys and horns, but it is augmented by such exotic instruments as gongs and flutes from Asia, xylophones and string instruments from Africa and Central American percussion instruments. The use of African polyrhythms now seems commonplace on a funk or psych album; Arabic rhythmical structures, African pentatonic scales and Oriental modes do not. The Whitefield Brothers, and a multitude of guest ranging from vocalists Edan, Mr. Lif, Bajka, Percee P and MED to musicians from Antibalas, El Michels Affair, Quantic and the Dap-Kings, set these elements in a modern context and, over the course of thirteen dense tracks, blend them with the fierce funk their fans have grown to love. Deluxe gatefold jacket.

This 5-disk set collects five EPs (LAtrik, Fly, Life, Hood, and Sky), issued also as a double CD. Dam-Funk brings back that retro-hip hop and electro boogie and funk like it was the 80's all over again. Like Arabian Prince or Mantronix, creating electronic beats to sound so authentically like funk, was just as important as sampling was for laying down the groundwork for hip hop and what it would become. Dam-Funk's refusal to let go of this lost sound is what makes it so fun, you feel his love for it. <br><br><b>Please note:</b> due to the weight of this box set there may be an additional shipping charge, depending on the shipping address for your order.
29. 14KT - The Golden Hour 2xLP

Producer/MC and DJ 14KT has been working steadily as a member of Michigan hip hop collective the Athletic Mic League and the producing team of the Lab Techs! He's been a big player in helping launch what looks to be a long and successful career run for Buff1 and has produced for plenty of other Michigan area artists. The mostly instrumental affair is full of breathtaking sample work and beautiful sonic ambiance that fills the voids between the drums. The Golden Hour, in medical terms, is apparently that last stretch to revive an ailing patient to a full recovery, which inspired 14KT to finally unveil his solo outing in search of his own meaning. It is very much in keeping with the unique sounds of the hip hop movement coming out of Detroit and greater surrounding areas like An Arbor as of late, it is also reminiscent of J-Dilla (not just throwing that out there either) and others leading by example like Black Milk. It should also be said that this is not the type of album you prefer to hear lyrics over while listening, because that would merely cheapen the effort into some kind of sales pitch for shopping beats. You can really feel 14KT speaking through the music here, which may sound cliche, but in this case it's true.
