Top 10 Albums of 2002
Yeah, I'm sure this has prolly been covered, but fuck it. Here's my list.
1. El-P - Fantastic Damage 2. Insight - Updated Software 3. RJD2 - Dead Ringer 4. MF Grimm - Downfall of Ibiliyis 5. Mr. Lif - I Phantom 6. People Under the Stairs - O.S.T. 7. PSC - Justify the Means 8. Motion Man - Clearing the Field 9. Planet Asia - Still in Training 10. Copywrite - The High Exalted I've gone back and forth all year between Fan Dam and Software, but Fan Dam's 'fucked-up-ness' (for lack of a better term), clinches it. El-P steps up his lyrical content as well. Dead Ringer was a classic as well, but I don't feel right ranking an instrumental (for the most part) album as the best. |

Nice lists, guys.
Never gave EP's a thought. Have to include Skhoolyard's New Way of Thinking, along with Aesop's Daylight EP, somewhere in the Top 10; removing Planet Asia and Copywrite from my list. Little Brother won't be officially released until next month, so I didn't include it. Sue me for being a technical asshole. :-) PM's not shitting about the Scarface album. Get's an honorable mention (along with GZA, Atmosphere, etc.) from me. |

Well, I don't think I've bought 10, but...
I'd have to put:
#1 El-P - Fantastic Damage #2 MF Grimm - The Downfall of Ibliys #3 Doug Martsch - Now You Know #4 Grouch - Crusader For Justice #5 Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted (reissue double CD) #6 Aesop Rock - Daylight #7 Rjd2 - Dead Ringer #8 DJ Shadow - The Private Press #9 Mum - Finally We Are No One #10 (I'm not gonna put anything here cos all I can think of is Mr. Lif and Atmosphere, and of those two Atmos deserves the #10 spot more, but I still don't wanna put them down. I wish I've heard that Boom Bip album, but it's too damn expensive.) |
