Car Insurance

I was previously financing my ride so a lot of coverage was necessary. Now that I'm no longer financing and own the pink slip, I can downgrade my coverage so it'll be cheaper for me.

I'm trying to get a quote online. I think I have the right setup but I want to be sure. I declined "Comprehensive (COMP)" and "Collision (COLL)" as well as uninsured driver Medical (MED) coverages.

All I need is Bodily Injury (BI) and Property Damage (PD) right? In the event of a collision, this will cover the other driver as well, won't it?

Compared to what I was paying, this quote is looking mighty tempting, but I don't want to ass myself out in the event of a collision.

Yes.... that basically boils down to liability coverage..... those coverages won't pay for any damage done to you're vehicle though...........

Alright, so how do I get it so that the coverage will pay for damage to my vehicle as well?

I wanted Collision coverage but it says that I need to decline Collision if I decline Comprehensive.

that's weird. isn't compensation for when your shit gets jacked? you should be able to only purchase one, the other, or both if you wanted to. i would never do shit online. always talk to a representative.

You can have collison w/out comp, but not comp w/out collison. (don't ask me why.......) So as far as what it said about declining those two, that seems backwards.... will it let you proceed w/the quote if you only select coll?

Comp covers theft, vandalism, things of that nature.
Coll simply covers damage done to your vehicle in an accident.

hmm

i just got auto insurance through mercury insurance and the lady at my work told me that i should get the "medical coverage" thingy cuz she used to work for auto insurance and said that what that basically does is allows a bleeding person to go to a hospital... like in case they dont' have insurance and the vehicle you get in an accident with doens't etc. etc... she said she knew somebody that got sued because they didn't have that provision and the person in the vehicle that got hurt didn't have insurance (died actually) so the parents sued the driver...

you could go to a lot of websites and do fake quotes too- that helps you understand what you're paying for and what you get too... i did that on the mercury website and a couple others....

Have you ever had to make an insurance claim? I made one once and I don't think I'll ever make another. My insurance paid out $800 (and I paid $200 or $400 - I don't remember what my deductable was). The next time it came time to pay for my insurance it was upped by...$800! What was the point of having insurance if they're just going to take their payment back, and then take it again and again and again for years down the road? It's a fucking racket.
So, I'd just go with liability and then if you do wreck your car pay for it out of pocket. The amount of money that you'll save on insurance will more than pay for the damages to your car. I've only got liability on my car. I got full coverage on my motorcycle though - but it's only $150 a year!

No, it won't.. that's the main reason for this post.

This is making a lot of sense.

Thanks to all for your help!
