Mandela condemns US stance on Iraq

Former South African president Nelson Mandela has criticised US President George W Bush over Iraq, saying the sole reason for a possible US-led attack would be to gain control of Iraqi oil.

The US stance on Iraq is "arrogant" and would cause "a holocaust", Mr Mandela, a Nobel Peace laureate and one of the world's most respected figures, told a forum in Johannesburg.

He also said UK Prime Minister Tony Blair - who supports Washington over Iraq - was in fact the "US prime minister".

Mr Mandela, 84, accused both the US and UK governments of undermining the United Nations.

"Why does the United States behave so arrogantly?" Mr Mandela asked.

"Their friend Israel has got weapons of mass destruction but because it's their ally they won't ask the United Nations to get rid of them.

"They just want the oil," Mr Mandela went on. "We must expose this as much as possible."

Consistent attacks

Nelson Mandela called Mr Bush "a president who can't think properly and wants to plunge the world into holocaust".


He said war "would be devastating not just to Iraq but also to the whole of the Middle East and to other countries of the world".

Mr Mandela added that both Mr Bush and Tony Blair were undermining the United Nations.


"Is this because the secretary general of the United Nations is now a black man? They never did that when secretary generals were white," he said.

Mr Mandela has consistently voiced strong opposition against a possible war on Iraq - in line with more diplomatic statements issued by the South African Government.

On Tuesday, a spokesman for President Thabo Mbeki told the BBC that said higher oil prices brought on by any Middle East war would condemn Africa to deep economic crisis.

Mr Mbeki is preparing to leave for Britain to meet Tony Blair at the weekend.

Yeah, Bill O was like "I think youre a lunatic" and blah blah blah. He was trying to paint the guy as some kind of anti-white crazy militant black "I hate america" guy (which he may be, I dont know) but basically he was just trying to make the viewers think "this guy is crazy, crazy people like this criticize our goverment, sane people trust the goverment" or something to that effect.

Well he was at one time.(anti-white) And for the record, he does hate America! He is Marksist(splng?) Communist. You gotta admit, some of the things Baraka was saying, was a little off. Bill O was just being a flat out asshole to him though. Dudes got issues.

dude, we watched the same show. He admits to this. Its not a big deal. He just doesnt beleive in the way the US is run.

Well, its not like his hatred was unfounded. He seems to have chilled a little now. I guess he realized ALL white people arent the devil, just certain white people. And I know you know this but being a marxist doesnt mean you "hate" america.

Ok, well then explain why he said that hates America on the show. I dont care either way, I'm just saying what I say and heard on the show.

Well, I mean this particular guy might hate america, I dont know. But you were using his marxist beliefs as like proof that the guy hates america "He's a communist/marxist so he must hate america" when theyre not really synonomous. I'm just nitpicking, I didnt even watch the whole show.

But I still doubt that he "hates" america, I think he just hates the crooked politicians and rich red necked white guys that run the US.
