Issue 50 marks the ten-year anniversary Wax Poetics with one of the
most iconic musicians in the history of African American music, the
one and only Prince. They've also done a full redesign, making the
magazine slightly larger 8 x 10.5 inches -- and have embraced a new
paper stock. Wax Poetics will look a bit different on the
newsstand, with a new mark making its debut in place of the old
logo, but the magazine will continue to be a collectible objet
d'art, something to be saved on your shelf as a musical reference
manual, not recycled like other mags. Also Frank Ocean, Larry
Graham (from Sly and the Family Stone), and Morris Day, an icon of
the Minneapolis-drenched sound of '80s R&B.

fault with an "us against them" DIY mentality, Ecid has self-booked,
self released, and self-made his own movement. Ecid doesn't try to
sell you on any one way of life, he only sells you on the idea that
you can live however you want. Pushing the limits of sampling, it's
not so much what he samples, it's what he does with every note.
Pitch shifting and chopping every sample to the point of no return,
slapping together psych-rock vocal chops with 808 booms and hand
claps, then adding more layers of drum breaks, and echo- heavy
guitars. Inspired by the duality in humanity, Werewolf Hologram
tackles heavy thought-provoking topics that really dig into your
head. Ecid brings you into his world with his knack for slapstick,
tricky rhymes and one liners that make us smile while shaking our
heads in disbelief fueled by the loss of a friend and mentor Eyedea,
a computer crash that ruined his previously planned album, and the
realization that nothing, not even plastic, is meant to last
forever. Featuring a verse recorded by Eyedea, and appearances by
Awol One, and Kristoff Krane.

Madlib - Black Tape CD

Here it is, the long rumored, highly anticipated, bonus installment
of the Medicine Show: No. 13 Black Tape. When Madlib launched his
Madlib Medicine Show, the original idea was simple: twelve releases,
one per month, alternating between original works and mixtapes
spanning different genres. It took a little longer than planned to
get to No. 12, which put the idea in his head to give us all a bonus
Medicine Show No. 13. Black Tape (which is of course actually a CD)
is a 60 minute hip-hop mix of some of rap's best, half-best,
brilliant and borderline-retarded MCs, all colliding head-on with a
collection of Madlib beats.

Europe in the late 70s-80s. Characterized by 70's synth and early
drum machine production and home recording, most of these tracks

Veronica Vasicka has spent the past five years painstakingly
building the Minimal Wave catalog, and a label of the same name that
specializes in digging up and reissuing the music. Partnering here
with Stones Throw, the recordings have been officially licensed,
remastered from their analog source tapes and compiled here by
Vasicka and Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf.
