NEW DVD:

A Tribe Called Quest - Beats Rhymes & Life DVD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21501
When A Tribe Called Quest emerged from Queens in the 1980s, there
wasn't another hip-hop outfit that sounded exactly like them. Their
unique mix of jazz, funk, and creatively conscious lyrics struck a
chord and is considered some of the best hip hop music of the 90's,
but 10 years later, they called it quits. In his first feature,
actor/filmmaker and bonafide fan Michael Rapaport, a native New
Yorker, charts their history, celebrates their success, and tries to
figure out what went wrong. No fan should be without this insightful
and heartbreaking look at why some of the greatest music groups of
all time end up butting heads and breaking up.

NEW GEAR:

Awol One and Ecid - T-Shirts
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?a...Ecid&page=gear
Now available in black! The Skull design from Awol and Ecid's 2010
album!

Eyedea Shirts (RESTOCKED!)
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?a...edea&page=gear
Brand new designs created in memory of Eyedea! Proceeds from shirt
sales go to a fund set up for the Larsen family.

R.EYE.P shirts in black feature a cool kinda faded image of Eyedea
on the mic with "Michael Larsen AKA Eyedea 1981-2010" written below.
Plus gray shirts with a green design and image of Eyedea performing
on "Eyedea's An Extraterrestrial".

FEATURED ITEMS OF THE WEEK:

Freestyle Fellowship - The Promise CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=20995
The Fellowship returns with the same fire of their younger wonder
years, and with them they bring a humbleness achieved through
longevity and proud success in the underground some 20 years since
To Whom It May Concern. The crew made a promise years ago to never
fall off. They remained true to their word by reuniting on this 14-
track album that will take listeners back to the first time they
heard these guys, but with a modern day vibe. Myka9, PEACE, Self
Jupiter and Aceyalone are joined on The Promise with the right
production to elevate their always innovative deliveries by Omid,
Kenny Segal, E. Super, Exile, Eligh, Black Milk and more!

Casual - The Hierophant CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21444
Another West Coast legend returns! A Hierophant is a person who
deciphers arcane knowledge. On this album Casual's wordplay demands
your attention while his vocabulary inspires thought. Features from
Pep Love and Tajai, Thomas Pridgen on Drums, Mike D and more!

NEW RELEASES:

J-Live - SPTA 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=19938
Back in stock! J-Live's long awaited fifth full length album. The
producer, deejay and emcee, approach this project creatively as if
he were a three man group, rather than a solo artist. The album
features production by J-Live, RJD2, Nicolay, The Audible Doctor,
Illastrate, Korede, Floyd The Locsmif, Marco Polo and Diamond D.
Also comes with a bonus CD of the Undivided Attention EP, previously
unavailable on CD.

The Cool Kids - When Fish Ride Bicycles 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21306
Now on vinyl! The Cool Kids' irresistible, hooky rhymes and club
cramming beats seamlessly bridge the old and new schools of hip hop
while assuring them a sure-fire path to world-wide attention. In
their short amount of time as a duo The Cool Kids have been featured
in Rolling Stone, XXL, The Source, Spin, Paper Magazine, CBS News,
The New Yorker, The Fader, and on the cover of The Urb. The long
awaited debut full length is here! The 14-track effort features
collaborations with Travis Barker, Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Mayer
Hawthorne Asher Roth, as well as production credit for Pharrell
Williams on the track Summer Jam . The physical release contains
three bonus tracks that are only available at record stores and are
not on the digital release.

Will Sessions - The Elmatic Instrumentals CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21131
Back in stock! Elmatic had been initially planned and announced in
2008 as a tribute to the historic 1994 album Illmatic by Nas, but it
wasn't until early 2011 that Elzhi and his manager Jae Barber agreed
that it would be best to recreate all of the beats from scratch --
and there was clearly nobody who could do it better than producer
Sam Beaubien and Will Sessions. Since it's widely considered to be
the holy grail of hip hop recordings, the prospect of duplicating
the music from Illmatic was daunting. By using the original sample
sources of the album's tracks as a foundation, producer Beaubien and
the band members managed to recreate both the sound and the mood of
the classic album with stunning precision on Elmatic, exceeding
lofty expectations set by loyal fans and skeptical critics alike.
(Vinyl restock soon.)

Dreas - Dreastronaut CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21346
Dope downtempo instrumental hip hop! Dreastronaut, the new album from
Heardrums label owner & long-time G4 cohort, extends out past the
normal samples, production styles, and concepts and takes the
listeners someplace otherworldly. Not taking the time to sit down
and listen to the album in its entirety is a missed opportunity to
experience an important component of this sound collage. The end
result is a uniquely upbeat soundscape with vibrant scenes of
varying emotion and movement surrounded by clouds of opiate laced
mood music.

Evidence - Cats & Dogs 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17873
Back in stock! Emcee/producer Evidence's storied history in the
music industry is studded with numerous achievements including a
Grammy for his collaboration with Kanye West and certified gold
sales of Dilated People's 3rd studio album, Neighborhood Watch. More
importantly, his background as a graffiti writer and hip-hop purist
has earned him reverence within the independent music community and
a tightly-knit group of fans who have been rabidly awaiting this new
album since Evidence's 2007 solo effort, The Weatherman LP, and 2008
EP The Layover. A new home on Rhymesayers aligns Evidence shoulder
to shoulder with some of the most respected, like-minded rhyme
practitioners of our time, and with Cats & Dogs he'll assert his
position as a reigning underground hip hop icon. Featuring
production by DJ Premier, Alchemist, Sid Roams and Ev himself, along
with appearances by Raekwon, Roc Marciano, Prodigy, Slug, Aesop
Rock, Aloe Blacc, Krondon of Strong Arm Steady, and his Dilated
Peoples partner Rakaa Iriscience.

Holysangreciqleta (Psychopop and XR Moontooth) - s/t Cassette EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21496
Very bizarre collaboration between Psychopop of Skrapez and Livin
Dead affiliate XR Moontooth. Demented beats, noises, distortion,
samples and XR screaming and rambling in weird voices in Spanish in
the background. Sounds like the soundtrack to a human sacrifice.
Limited to 50 copies pressed on a gold chrome cassette. Tenshun
calls it "The most aggressive album you will ever hear in this
lifetime. All improvised analog recording."

Jonti - Twirligig CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21462
Multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, and vocalist, Jonti, began
assembling music after his departure from South Africa to Australia.
Spending countless hours studying records like they were books,
processing each song, this became Jonti's music school, testing his
theories on a 4-track recorder. Twirligig draws inspiration from
many of Jonti's favorite artists: Madlib, Stereolab, Free Design and
The Beach Boys. But Twirligig's main inspiration came from
cartoonist/filmmaker Norman Mclaren. Jonti explains, "His films are
complex, but they're still fun. You can feel his enthusiasm for
techniques and experimentation. I try make simple pop songs with
that same enthusiasm." (Vinyl shortly.)

Josh Koslow + DJ Al Jackson - The Takeover CDR
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21503
Josh Koslow (brother to producer Elusive) returns to laying down
some amazing improvisational trumpet work over a mix of various
chilled out beats compiled by DJ Al Jackson from producers like
Nosaj Thing, Dibiase, M-Phazes, Dela, Thes One and more! Highly
recommended!

Krts - Hold On 12" EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21173
With sounds ranging from the eclectic side of Hip-Hop, Broken Beat,
Downtempo, soulful Dubstep, Indie Rock, and Fusion Jazz, Krts crafts
a soundtrack to an ever-changing NYC landscape, fraught with
struggles and flashbacks of what-was, all while letting go of ideals
in favor of a new, raw, and heartfelt future. The album's title
track, "Hold On", concerns the battle of a fleeting love --
electronic and psychedelic sounds lead to a heavy, mid-range looped
chorus and a deep, rumbling dubstep-style bassline. A taste of
struggle is represented in "Whatever", with its 808 kicks, layered
snare, eerie and rattling samples, sweeping syths, and improvised
piano... all as an ode to the cluttered market of Brooklyn's indie
art scene.

Large Pro - Key to the City (clear) 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21173
Limited pressing on clear vinyl. Download card enclosed, includes
remixes not on the vinyl. Key To The City's fast paced tempo brings
hip hop back to its original form with a Latin piano riff, razor
sharp scratches and funky drums programming. The A side contains the
vocal and instrumental, while the B side contains the Mad Scientist
Remix that is exclusively on this Limited Edition 12" pressing.

Long Arm - Organic LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21298
Technically this amazing little LP from Project Mooncircle could be
considered an EP, with five tracks by Russian producer Long Arm and 3
remixes! Featuring Teknical Development (of Obba Supa) and Graciela
Maria.

Martyn - Ghost People CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21308
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21309
It's only natural that Martyn has risen above the cliches and
pitfalls of the vacuous DJ world. Over his 15 years DJing, 6 years
producing, and 4 years A&R'ing his 3024 imprint, the Holland-born/
Washington DC-based artist has forged his own path every step of the
way. His multi-leveled career has kept balance with a focus on art,
and his every sacrifice is preserved in an endless dedication to
music. As a continual record buyer and beat seeker, Martyn is a
beacon of hope through leagues of passion-less DJs and producers,
the "ghost people": plastic, hollow shells that focus only on the in-
the-now grooves or keeping in line with trends. Martyn's inspiration
stems from the old school mentality of connecting the dots, much
like how Ron Hardy would tweak a soul track into a house groove, or
Goldie sent processed breakbeats far into the future. Throughout his
uncategorizable sound, Martyn gives nods to the electronic music
that came before him: bringing back the energy of early rave, the
deep builds of old jungle, the immersive and impulsive feel of an
early Francois K DJ set. A veritable ambassador for scenes across
the board, and across oceans, Martyn has a rare ability to bring
sounds together, and unite the right people all the while.

Mike James Kirkland - Don't Sell Your Soul 2xCD/2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21301
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21302
Before the release of his seminal, socially-conscious, 1972 soul
album, Hang On In There, a young Mike James Kirkland released a
number of singles as Mike and The Censations. Despite being offered
a record deal by Curtis Mayfield, eventually making a deal with MCA,
and selling in excess of 50,000 singles, Mike and the Censations
never released an album and never fully realized their potential.
Here for the first time are all of his early releases, along with
some unreleased gems discovered on tapes as this project was being
researched. Pigeon-holed as a doo-wop group by one of their early
labels, Mike and The Censations fought to battle that image. In
doing so they made a unique blend of soul, funk, and even jazz-
influenced tunes, occasionally sneaking in an up-tempo number on a
B-side. Their doo-wop tunes were pretty damn amazing too, dripping
in soul and becoming big favorites of the low-rider scene. Please
note: the 2xCD box set and the 2xLP both have tracks that are not on
the other format. You need both to get all tracks.

Sahy Uhns - An Intolerant Disdain of Underlings CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21468
Sahy Uhns aka Carl Madison Burgin has been producing hip-hop and
electronic music since his early teenage years, creating music using
any strange sound he could find. The LA native draws inspiration
from West Coast hip-hop culture and channels his musical energy into
generating new and unique sounds * recording everywhere he travels.
Sahy Uhns' use of custom designed software, hardware, modified
instruments and found sounds, contributes to his unique approach to
composition and production. A compulsive music-maker, Sahy Uhns'
dedication and attention to detail are evident in the production of
his studio tracks. His live performances brim with focused energy as
he constantly engages the audience with live electronic drumming,
scratching, and improvised audio manipulation through his custom-
built computer interfaces. Sahy Uhns, with his demand for constant
growth, continues to meld his study of synthesis with the influences
of his audio/visual surroundings to create music that grows as he
does.

Skrapez feat. Delon Deville - Skrapez 20111 Cassette
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21497
Tenshun dropped off this brand new Skrapez tape featuring Delon
Deville from Masters of the Universe. Heavy fuzz and drums. Limited
to 50 copies.

Seattle based producer Marcus D we were able to pick up copies of

Various Artists - Mad Decent Volume 1 CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21341
The compilation presents a selection of Mad Decent artists who've
helped shape the label's unique personality since inception.
Featuring huge new remixes of classics such as Bosco Delrey's "Wild
One" (Reset! Remix) and Maluca's "El Tigeraso" (Sticky K Remix) to
unreleased gems like Boy 8-bit "House on the Hill" and Dillon
Francis's "Beautician 2.0", to in your face bangers like Rusko's
"Everyday" (Netsky Remix). Mad Decent Vol. 1 is as much a showcase
of the label's biggest names and tracks as it is an illustration of
its incessant efforts to bring new genres and cultures to light.

Local rapper 11 11 decided not sit on years worth of tracks and
pressed them all up instead as their own albums!
