Advice on Battling

Yo Im just lookin for some honest feedback on this one------

I live in Dallas Tx and a local radio station host a weekly battle a local restaraunt/club. Well last night in first round I went up against a rasta cat and his style/delivary was alright but during his 1 minute of rhymes he didn't direct like but 1 line towards me personally. The rest was booty chatta--" Let me take off my skully show you my hair you see Im a rasta" just bullshit. Well I had came for dolo nobody showed up to support me--solo---I had came early high (on that dro) and my mouth was mad dry---plus this was going to be my 1st time on stage ever and shit---Well I smashed him with opening line "Yeah word ur a rasta but Ill smoke ya like the dro before I got here bra---and later went on to say shit like " Ill grab u by ur dredds and drag u off the stage" and some other tight shit--now the crwod was feelin me pretty much the previous mc's both got boooo'd and double eliminated--When the crowd cheered for each of us at the end THe dj/host said it was equal--but they had 3 judges who immediately pointed to the rasta?????? All 3 judges were African-American---not to make this a race thing but Im white and one of the few there--(its in the hood were this shhh goes down)--The only other real slip up I had was my voice was real dry and my voice slipped on one line---1st time though and I made up for by flowing how my mouth was just dry from the excess high--Please I need advice none of man's was there to tell me---I got to go back next Mon I was new nervous dry mouth I know I can rip them harder---please feedback

no doubt man,...there was a time tho when battling was all about comin raw and rugged with some lyrical flurry,..but nowadays its all about being funny and witty,...so just come on some witty shit,I usually come on some real sarcastic shit. and like anything the dude whose battlin me clowns me about I just endoure it,nah'mean?...like if dude says some shit about me being broke,i'll play off of it and get into detail about how broke I really am(than proceed to clown him),...sorta makes it a win win sitisuation,....also hommie,I read how you said you'd smoke him like the dro you just smoked,..and grap him by his dreads and so forth,..it sounds to me like you should work more on structuring actual punchlines...heres some examples

"This ma'fucka couldnt see the light even with the lamp on/this ugly ma'fucka couldnt get pussy even if he was a tampoon"

"I shine brighter than the star of osirus/this ma'fucka looks naister than a crack pipe with the aids virus/"

maybe it was because you a white guy told a rasta you'd drag him out by his dreads. just a thought.

"pre written"?
how can you call it a "freestyle" if its written? if your dope you dont have to do that. im not saying you cant, but a true emcee will catch you doing it and ripp you for it. i've been to battles and seen it happen.
my advice is keep freestyling every minute you can. keep practicing, just like anything else.....

i'm not saying get up on stage and start spittin a whole pre written battle rap,..i'm sayin its okay to improvise and adlib your written punchlines into the battle,...and if you think "a true emcee" wouldnt do that, than your a dumbass,...i'm sorry to tell you but any good battle mc does this,..mac lethal,prime,adm,sage,eyedea,etc...

how many battles have you been in? (discluding street ciphers)

and by no means do I "have" to spit a written punchline, because freestylin for me is like 2nd nature, but after being in so many battles where cats are improvising thought out punchlines into their freestyle battle verses,I figured I better get with it

fuck the prewrittens

everyone has prewrittens formulated in their brains...and sometimes they slip out. But, freestyle is off the top, straight from nowhere and real emcees can tell if it is or isn't.
Battling, is definitely something you shouldnt really be nervous about, just chill and listen to your opponents...fuck the punchlines, just be truthful, rap about what the cat just spit, and bring sum solid stuff that you can't really talk shit about. too many punchlines sounds like preschool...but spit knowledge whether you're battling or not...stuff that hits in the heart is unbreakable.
Peace.
