BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A 30-year woman admitted in court Monday that she had a lengthy sexual relationship with an 8-year-old neighbor whom police say she considered a fantasy boyfriend.

In a deal with prosecutors, Tammy Imre pleaded guilty to a charge of risk of injury to a minor. She faces six years in prison when she is sentenced Nov. 4.

Imre was arrested last November on sexual assault charges after the boy's mother found a letter Imre allegedly had written to him, police said.

In the letter, police said Imre told the boy that she doesn't "want anyone but you. Now tomorrow it's supposed to rain, you can come over we can (you know what). Love ya! I want you!"

Police said the boy, the playmate of Imre's 7-year-old daughter, initially denied doing anything with Imre because he feared getting into trouble. When confronted, police said Imre acknowledged engaging in sexual acts with the boy.

According to the arrest affidavit, she told investigators she considered the relationship "like a fantasy and she was the girlfriend and he was the boyfriend."

Defense attorney Donald Papcsy said Imre suffers from a mental problem that made it hard for her to admit that what she did was wrong.

"She really believed she was in a fantasy relationship," Papcsy said.

The family of the young boy agreed to the plea deal, saying they wanted to spare him and Imre's daughter a lengthy trial in which the children would have to testify.

"This was a big step forward for the family," said George Ganim, the attorney for the victim's family.

do u really think that its due to privilege thats been socially constructed for women? if so i'd have to disagree with you on that. i think it has more to do with how society percieves a young boy pulling an older female to be a sign of masculinity and a right of passage into manhood. with a young girl being molested by an older man, even if the girl is 17, the idea that she has been deflowered and her purity has been taken is looked upon very negatively. blame our society's mysogenistic ideals to the discrepency on how punishment, in these types of situations, is placed on either a male or a female.

i think its wrong either way for a child, that probably doesnt understand the notion of willful participation, to be sexually violated by an adult.

I agree with your points. Thing is, he wasn't the one violated...nowhutuhmeen? It also has something to do with how we're "made up".

On the reals. How many of us guys had thoughts of digging out that fourth grade teacher? I can go back to kindergarten on that one.

I assume with girls it's totally different. They don't think of getting that intimate with their crushes, at least not at that age. Or do they?

I was all about my 4th Grade teacher's aide, Ms. Baroni.
