Question about DVD burning...

i just got a new laptop and it has a DVD burner but i cant find any programming that came with the computer to burn them.

what do i need to 1) burn DVDs from mpeg, avi, quicktime, etc. files 2)burn DVDs from other DVDs. i need to encrypt or decode the DVDs first right?

i know how to use computers by using them for a lot but ive never had one with a DVD burner.

any help is much appreciated

1) to burn a dvd so it has a dvd menu you need a program (ie idvd for macs)
2)you want to burn a data dvd (same as a cd) drag your files to the dvd and a treat it as a cd

Nero DVD burner is really good for burning dvds. Not types of files can necessarily be burnt to DVD, i believe you can convert some types but it can be a lengthy process. Lots of DVDs are encrypted now days so you cant make a "backup" copy but there are programs that get around it.

it kinda depends on the DVD player too, I downloaded a bunch of music videos and such, some of them would play on this shitty DVD player I got for free a couple of years ago. But if you have a quaility player it may work with more types of files.

For AVI and DIVX and MPEG's get Nero Recode. It will do it. Or Ulead DVD Movie Factory. Both are great.
