I got a gift certificate for Amazon.com this Christmas and here's what I got...

Jimmy McGriff - Electric Funk

Amazing album and consistantly too (which is hard to find). Every track has a great late 60s funk feel to it and Jimmy just rips the organ. Well-worth checking out for any soul-jazz and funk fan.

George Benson - Beyond The Blue Horizon

...has a lot of weak albums, but this one is one of his best. His first CTI release and funky at that. This is pretty consistant too and one of my favorite CTI releases I've heard. Fairly funky, but just as jazzy too.

I lucked out. I had never heard these LPs before I bought them (except for a couple soundclips at Amazon).

yea, from sacto...i saw him rip a G&E show so when i saw in auburn, cali, i picked it up. Its not like seein him live cuz he hasnt perfected the technique of recorded music but its good and shows infinite potential.

yeah he's nice and he seems to keep getting a little better, i was at that same show. have you seen him rock with his group, its a good collective. thats tight, cool someone else noticed. its like watching a young fighter come up from the neighborhood.....
