no he didn't. maybe you're going off memory but i just rented the shit. he does NOT spin records, he's acting. he doesn't even have the tables set up right, and not ONCE does he even place his finger on EITHER the record or the fader. i paused it frame by frame.

how come there are cuts and scratches during the fly girl segments and he's just standing there dancing? this is real talk, homie.

he ackkkkkkkkkk-ts.

Reminds me of stuff I used to do. For example, if an actor was playing an instrument in a movie, or--more importantly--if an actor was skateboarding in a movie. Oh yeah, I checked to see if they replaced him with somebody else. Usually, it's easy to tell by how they cut it, but sometimes they try to get creative.

Fuck that guy from Clueless--didn't even drop in on that halfpipe!

I don't mind if an actor is playing the role of a disabled person and is not really disabled, but don't dare let an actor pretend he's a skateboarder or a musician and he can't even play or ride.

I loved how a simple punch--one that usually looked fake--would always knock the shit out of someone, totally incapacitating someone. So, I suppose people would suffer the same fate if they got socked or if a bomb exploded beneath them.

But boy, that theme song sure gets me amped.

With one exception, Geoffrey Rush in 'Shine'. I think he actually learned a fair bit of piano skills to play that role.

And Tom Hulce, in Amadeus. I heard he took piano lessons for a few hours everyday for a while before shooting began. And upon watching, it's noticeable. Although I was kidding about my above comment, it really does kill the suspension of disbelief when I can see some "creative cutting," and a talent double's hands.

Jay.... just out of curiousity. Do you take anything at face value? Or is it just your nature to disect everything.

Nothing wrong with that, i'm just curious if you are ever entertained.

It's my nature to disect everything.

But of course I'm entertained by a lot of things. I'm just very critical when it comes to movies. As I'm an aspiring filmmaker, I study films meticulously. I admit, I enjoy a lower percentage of films because I've seen so many, and know a lot about how they're made. So when I see poor writing, editing, acting, I can spot it easily, and it kills it for me.

But as a journalist, don't you want me to disect everything? It's a tough switch to turn off.

P.S. You may notice that this aspiration to be a filmmaker conflicts with my present professional pursuit. But I always figured that my journalistic ambitions and my passion to tell stories in films are very similar. It's all about telling a good story, and having an impact on people. Of course, in journalism you can't make up shit--though with everything that goes on in this world one hardly needs to. Anyway, I figure I can work as a professional journalist, and write screenplays in my free time. And my journalism will undoubtedly inspire my screenplays.
