longshoreman hireing in la area

did anyone send in their postcards? for those of you in the la area who dont know, you just missed an opportunity to become a longshoreman making 100,000 a year retireing w/ a fat 4,000 a month pension. you mail in a postcard w/ ur name address n # and on the 19th they will randomly select 3,000 names out of 100,000 applicants, they hire like every 30-50 years, its extremely hard to get this job, i beleive its the first time hireing is open to the general public, u dont even have to have a high school diploma to apply, its crazy....

wish me luck

la times

says that the jobs are temp/non-union tho... but 20.66/hour isn't bad but it says you'd have to try and get enough hours to join the union.

say goodbye to lab posting and say hello to HARDCORE manual labor for the rest of your life.

it's not a cake job by any means.

good luck, man.

I would LOVE to be one of the crane operators. I've been wanting to operate any sort of crane for a while now - super good pay and I just think it'd be fun sitting WAY up there.
Also wanna be a window washer for sky scrapers.

yeah its hard work, but its worth it, my uncle is a longshoreman, after awhile its not that gruling, u get easier n easier jobs as u go along with a good chance of working in an air conditioned office as a clerk for the last 15 years of your career making 130 a year chillin. and its not temp, they plan on keeping most of the 3,000, the ones who put in the most hours, after 1,000 hours u become union. even if i lose a finger, break a frew bones, its still worth it, its a lot a damn money, fuck this job and this message boards, im ready to grind it out for my future

fed-ex isnt that bad, i worked for fed-ex for 2 years in downtown la, all the overtime/time 1/2 @ $18 an hour, shit was lovely, free flights to thailand, hawaii, etc, all the females you meet which ended up being the reason for me getting fired. most of my jobs have been office type jobs sittin behind a comp, i hate it, manual labor makes the day go by faster and keeps you in shape. i remember a few dudes quiting fed-ex they were all fat and i assume lazy
