Access Music * 1537 Garnet Avenue * Pacific Beach * CA 92109 858-270-3987 * info@accesshiphop.com NEW BOOK: Brian Coleman - Rakim Told Me http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22079 Journalist Brian Coleman has, over the past decade, immersed himself in and written about the hip hop artform as a columnist for national magazines like XXL, Scratch, CMJ and URB. In this brand new book Rakim Told Me, he covers hip hop facts from the 80's by legendary artists like De La Soul, Ice-T, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, KRS-One, Too $hort and more and of course Rakim himself. These are the liner notes straight from the sources, as hip hop albums very early on never received true treatment from the record labels that other genres did about the behind the scenes stuff and creative and collective processes that went into making some of hip hop's most classic albums. NEW SHIRTS: Vinyl Only T-Shirts http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?artist=Vinyl+Only Vinyl junkies, DJ's, all that apply...show your love for vinyl with cool light blue shirts (pink and turquoise for girls) we picked up! Scatter Brain - Honkey Kong/Scatter Brain T-Shirts http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?artist=Scatter+Brain Scatter Brain logo shirts designed by Honkey Kong restocked and now in black! FEATURED ITEM OF THE WEEK: Oh No - OhNoMite CD/2LP http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21992 http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21993 The Oxnard, California based beat-smith and emcee Oh No returns for a solo mission following two successful collaborative efforts alongside fellow producer/rapper The Alchemist as the power duo Gangrene -- 2010's Gutter Water and 2012's Vodka & Ayahuasca -- and the 2011 gem with The Alchemist as Gangrene & Roc Marciano, the Greneberg EP. This time, Oh No (born Michael Jackson; younger brother of Madlib and son of singer Otis Jackson) was granted unprecedented access to the Rudy Ray Moore /Dolemite audio archives and given free rein to slice, dice, chop and sample his way through the classic-yet- absolutely-filthy catalog. He was able to use legendary material from The Human Tornado, Petey Wheatstraw, the Dolemite Soundtrack and more, plus a multitude of previously unreleased and alternate acapellas and instrumentals. The end result is Ohnomite, a 19 track head-banging extravaganza of sloppy funk, dirty soul, and brainy lyricism, all aimed at one thing- making your head nod and your ass shake. Much like his 2009 all-Ethiopian endeavor Dr. No's Ethiopium, Oh No tackles this with an unmatched ferocity and proper admiration for the source material. He combines side-splitting vocal outtakes with the right amount of hard-hitting drum breaks and soul samples to concoct a mixture sure to appeal to both old and new schoolers alike. And when you add to that guests spots from the likes of MF Doom, Evidence, Phife Dawg, The Alchemist, Erick Sermon, Rapper Pooh, MED, Guilty Simpson, Roc Marciano, Sticky Fingaz, Chino XL, Roc C, Prozack Turner, Termanology, Frank Nitt and more, and you are left with a one of a kind album from a one of a kind musician. Ohnomite: 19 songs of pure whoop ass from Oh No and Dolemite! NEW RELEASES: Anthony Valadez - Just Visiting CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22132 Plug Research's label has brought us such dynamic artists over the years with releases from Daedelus, Exile, Nobody and Shafiq Husayn. The label is on a roll this year after dropping Sene's Brooklynite and the recent Sonnymoon, and now LA based DJ/producer Anthony Valdez drops Just Visiting. Featuring super chill beats and equally cool guests including Sonnymoon, Damon Aron, Miles Bonny and rapper Def Sound. The Bamboos - Medicine Man CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22106 Bamboos founding member and guitarist Lance Ferguson, who schizophrenically also releases electronic side projects under his DJ name Lanu, began the Australian funk and soul group as a four- piece in 2000 to play a string of concerts in Melbourne club The Night Cat. Joining him for this initial version of the band were Ben Grayson on Hammond organ, Stuart Speed on bass, and Scott Lambie on drums, playing straightforward New Orleans funk in a style heavily influenced by the Meters. After this string of concerts, the Bamboos expanded to add a horn section consisting of Ross Irwin on trumpet, Phil Noy on baritone saxophone, and Anton Delecca on tenor saxophone and flute. New drummer Danny Farrugia and new bass player Yuri Pavlinov completed the shaken-up lineup. Four albums and many projects later, Medicine Man marks the fifth official full length from the group, continuing their run on Tru Thoughts label. Bigg Jus - Machines That Make Civilization Fun CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21994 Complete title is "Machines That Make Civilization Fun" Bigg Jus assaults the growing ugliness and inequality of society with a fury and intelligence that are unparalleled in these bleak times of perpetual war and economic fatigue. It makes sense, perhaps, that those coming of age in the diminished hope of the years post-9/11 have gravitated towards the escapist choices of the new generation: beachy chillwave and materialistic rap. Bigg Jus has a longer memory, though. His first project, Company Flow, stood at the top of underground hip-hop during an era when it was actually about something, and he's still haunted by the events that leveled his home town a decade ago. He doesn't see the point in rapping about greed or girls, and Machines That Make Civilizations is for those who have been paying attention during the decline and who are hungry for music that aggressively addresses the problems that are right in front of our faces. As cities across America and the world begin to awaken, Bigg Jus offers a soundtrack that speaks truth to power with a profundity that is worthy of the moment.

Curren$y - The Stoned Immaculate CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22052 Curren$y's first album since signing with major label Warner Bros. featuring big name guests like Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Pharrell and Daz Dillinger, plus usual guests like Smoke DZA, Young Roddy, 2Chainz and Big K.R.I.T. Def Jef - Just A Poet With Soul 2xCD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22089 Raised in Harlem and the Bronx, Def Jef received his first true start when he relocated to Los Angeles and was discovered by Delicious Vinyl in the late 1980s. The influence of NYC hip-hop's old school had tagged along however. Jef's debut album, Just a Poet With Soul, wasn't the commercial worldwide hits that Young MC and Tone Loc had recorded for Delicious, but jams like "Droppin' Rhymes on Drums" (which employs the late Etta James on vocals), "God Made Me Funky" and "Give It Here" made it a stand out favorite on the left coast at the time. Jef, along side trusty hit makers The Dust Brothers, is at his most interesting and conscious on the excellent sociopolitical offerings "Black to the Future" and "Downtown," but even when it comes to his more standard NYC bred braggin' & boastin' style of rhymes, "Poet With Soul" is just as exhilarating and relentlessly funky. Delicious Vinyl finally blows the dust off this gem delivering an extended version, with disc two sporting 16 bonus tracks: 12" only remixes, edits, non-album cuts and instrumentals previously never available on compact disc. The original jewel case has also been stepped up to a 6 panel digipak that includes previously unpublished photographs and artwork. DJ Nu-Mark - Broken Sunlight Series #2 10" http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22076 Second in a limited edition 10-inch series, this time on green vinyl. Each of the six releases will feature a different color of vinyl, leading up to release of the complete "Broken Sunlight" album. Digital download card included. As a member of the critically acclaimed, gold-selling Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark graced the group with precision scratching and cutting-edge production. Best known for spearheading the raw anthem "What's Golden", such creativity only hinted at the visionary songs and styles Nu-Mark has explored since Jurassic 5's breakup in 2006. Now, after more than three years of brainstorming, experimenting and collaborating, he has finished his debut solo album "Broken Sunlight", which reveals his influences and innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music. "A lot of things in my life were broken, my group broke up, my long term relationship broke up, the music industry and economy seemed to be broken so It was time for me to take a break", Nu-Mark explains. "And that's where the title of the record stems from. It's not so much I'm broken. I'm moving towards the sunlight these days. It's more like a tale of perseverance and forging ahead through difficult times." Frank Nitt - Stadium Music CD + book http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22131 Detroit's Frank Nitt has seen it all, more so than your average 'keep it real' MC. He has seen the meteoric rise and untimely death of friend, collaborator and certified hip hop legend J Dilla. He has been signed, and rejected, by a major label (MCA), and has seen subsequent success on the independent circuit (Delicious Vinyl, Fat Beats, Groove Attack etc). He eyewitnessed Common record a platinum album, and Black Thought freestyling in a strip club parking lot. And he now chronicles his first hand experiences in the 48 page memoir 'The View from the Underground', which comes included in this brand new deluxe casebook edition album, Stadium Music. As part of the duo FrankNDank, Frank Nitt dropped unforgettable material on notable releases like 2001's Welcome 2 Detroit, 2003's 48 Hrs, and two versions of Xtended Play (2004 and Version 3.13 in 2006), as well as his solo efforts The Concert Hall EP and Jewels in My Backpack. His most recent full length outing, Nittyville, part of Madlib's Medicine Show series, illustrates his knack for tongue-in- cheek, fun loving raps. But Stadium Music is more than that. As Frank Nit puts it; "All of my travel, all of my musical influences, and all of my relationships... I talk about love on there, and hardship. I talk about just wanting to be a dope MC." FRKSE (Rajbot) - Guilt Surveillance LP http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22200 Limited pressings of under a hundred! FRKSE drops this latest collection of dope beats! I fucking loved it! For fans of Tenshun and Son of Bricklayer! Do not sleep on this like-minded artist! The Jacka - The Sentence CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=21718 Brand new from Bay Area's Jacka, featuring Messy Marv, Max B, J.Stalin, Big Rich, Mitchy Slick and more. Marcus D - Melancholy Hopeful CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22190 Upcoming producer responsible for one of the best albums of last year where he and QN5 affiliate Substantial dropped Bop Alloy and the remix version of it. It looks like the talented beat maker has no problem winning over immensely talented people to lay down verses on his all new solo, featuring One Be Lo, Substantial, Choklate, Cise Star of Cyne and Shing02 and more. Plus a track co-produced by Emancipator! Reks - Straight, No Chaser 2LP http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22033 Now on vinyl! Still living off the praise of fans, critics and peers as well as sales of last year's album R.E.K.S (Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme), REKS now sets out to take the next step in his progression with his official full length follow up opus Straight, No Chaser. Once again teaming up with career long beatsmith Statik Selektah, the two combine like a modern day Gang Starr for Straight, No Chaser. Featuring Action Bronson, Slaine, Termanology and more! Watusi - Live @ Robofest 2011 CD http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=22201 Brand new live album from the abstract Baltimore/DC area emcee!
