MF Doom: "Doompostor" --- Going Too Far?

I thought we had gotten past this. Middle of last year, we heard reports of Doom sending body doubles to lip synch shows in San Francisco (and skipping Rock the Bells altogether).
So, figuring he'd know he was caught and would finally return to stage, I bought a ticket to his new years' eve show in Los Angeles---BIG mistake.
This guy -- NOT Doom -- came out, lip synched a weak 20-minute set, then bounced. Anyone who's seen a live Doom performance knows the experience; it couldn't be mistaken for any other.
Now, I've come to find out he did the same thing in Atlanta a few weeks earlier, only in a much smaller venue, which killed the illusion.

Case in point, check out this photo from the Atlanta show:

Now, in case you forgot, Doom doesn't look like this. He looks like this:

Here's the guy in the first picture (note the scar on his hand)

His name's DJ Wesu, a close associate of MF Doom.
We come to find out from interviews with the likes of C Rayz Walz and John Robinson (on 1/4/08 with UGHH) that Doom is doing all this in promotion of his new project, "Doompostor." If you recall, Dumile once remarked that whoever's in the mask is Doom.

Now, is this a fair trick for the sake of viral promotion, or is he just fucking everyone who pays 30 bucks to see him? I hope these new albums are good enough/distributed cheap enough to make up for the fact that he's fucked with his fans so much.

I don't know about that.

At this point if you pay to see him live you're either axing for it or you just haven't been paying attention. In which case, boo hoo...

I'm a pretty big Doom fan and I think it's funny to hear people take this stuff so personally. Actually it's all pretty funny. Doompostor sounds highly $uspect... and that's why you shop at spots with the good return policies.

I don't quite understand this. You've been to a lot of venues with return policies?

At this point, I'm with you patch but when I paid a lot of money to go to the independent (one of the original "doomposter" shows), I still was very angry.

Either way, its a publicity stunt and its working...

I meant record stores. Initially after reading the first post in this thread I figured I ain't coppin Doompostor... but who am I kidding. Snag it a block from the house and get 75% of my dough back if it's weak, that'll work.

And dooz YOU can be mad, ha ha... you had no reason to expect that nonsense.

It's on at JohnColins tonite btw and I was told to start playing more hip hop...

You Will Still Support Him

I Bet That You Will Still Support Him, I Bet That You Will Still Promote His Album, I Bet If You Was To See Him In Person You Will Not Express How You Feel About His Shows. Iam I Right Or Wrong? Because He Will Slap The Taste Out Cha Mouth!

Either he has a real bad marketing team and some where in his head he thinks sending fake MF DOOMs will get him good publicity, or this is just a cover up for whats really going on.

You know, kind of like Winona Ryder said she was shoplifting to prepare for a "movie role".

Harsh? Maybe. Somewhat true? Definitely.

Rant: MF Doom is one of those artists who says they will release an album (actually, at least 5 albums) to the public, time and time again in past years, but nothing ever comes to fruition. In fact, all these albums cats have been talking about should have dropped by now. I mean, why not bow out gracefully and take a break instead of making all these empty promises. I mean, I got my KMD "Best Of" that says a new KMD album is coming soon! What the hell happened to that? What happened to "Danger Doom 2 is almost done" shortly after the first one's release. We were supposed to see Viktor Vaughn 3, Madvillain 2, MF Doom 3, KMD 3...etc.

Has anyone else noticed that dude has not been putting out very good guest spots as of late? He's got a decent one here or there, but he just sounds tired most the time.

Hmmm, his new disc better be hot; that's all I gotta say.
