I find myself listening more often to this "trip-hop electronica acid-jazz" fusion with hip hop.

Some of the guys I"m feeling are:

DJ Shadow
DJ Vadim
Sixtoo
Science Fiction
Amon Tobin
Herbaliser
Kid Koala

Throw in the hip hop instrumental albums from Omid, Opus, Nobody, Mums the Word, RJD2.

Definitely check out the Ninja Tune catalogue. They've got a lot of stuff that fuses hip hop, jazz, funk with electronica. Personally I don't like the stuff that's too much by way of electronica but there's some good music there to chill to.

Peace

Steve

castelino I totally agree with you. I personally like the break beats like dub style a lot more than the faster dance tunes. i like this music because i can write, do homework or just chill to them without all the vocals.. but im so versatile when it comes to music i cant say i dont like any specific thing because sooner or later there will be something that i like that defys what i said..

what other genres fit this "chill" style of music? its rediculous, i know.. deep house? dub? d's n b's ?

and i heard of ninja tune... what shit is good on that label?

on ninja tune, its all about Amon Tobin... Permutation is still one of my favorite albums. And recently he did an album with a Bollywood theme, also a tight album. and on that note, the Shadow/Automator collab "Bombay the Hard Way" is fuckin rediculously good. check that out if you haven't already. And St. Germain too...that's some classic lounge type shit....oh, and DJ Food.......

fuck, information overload

You heard the second one? Bombay 2: Electric Vindaloo.

These albums spawned so many biters of the whole brownsploitation thing (i mean, not a TON, but nobody was giving those records a second look)... that shit was unheard of until Adrian Milan (the REAL brains behind the projects) dug up all those masters.

Hot shit indeed.

Hey, thanks. :D

I actually haven't heard it, i was wondering if you had.
If it's anything like the first one, though, i'm sure it's worth copping.

 "trip hop" "acid jazz"........ as far as Krush, Shadow & Automator are concerned they are hip hop music. Fuck all those stupid labels..

I'd have to agree. I don't refer to any of the stuff i listen too as "acid jazz" or "trip hop".....

If anything, i usually just say the artists name, followed by "shit"

As in "Yo, That new Dj Krush shit is hot"

Some of the Om Lounge albums are dope....

get The Dining Rooms 'Numero Deux' on Guidance as well as the Troublemakers..dope stuff

i'm really been into the following lately (as in anywhere from the last 6 months to the last 2 weeks)...Boards of Canada, Massive Attack, Fennesz, Aphex Twin, Manitoba, some of the stuff on Ghostly International, like Twine..there's this album by Kiln (http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?item_id=7062) coming out that is beautiful...this girl Mileece is pretty dope minimalist electronic stuff....put it on before you go to sleep...read about her in Vice Magazine of all places...apparently she wrote some kind of program in order to make her album or something...weird but worth taking a listen...go here: (http://www.mileece.net/)

oh that song 'This Place is a Prison' by Postal Service is dope..not really feeling much else of the album...however Dntel's solo album is pretty nice...

The J Boogie's Dubtronic Science album on Om is pretty dope.

Ammon Contact- Beats From Bina's House EP on Eastern Development is another good one.

Mr. Scruff's albums are nice...

DJ Cam

Animals On Wheels

I used to be into that kinda stuff a lot more but haven't been diggin for it too much lately.

Anybody heard the new Savath and Savalas? Can't wait to get up to the Bay and finally cop that next week...

i was just trying to describe what i was looking for... smart guy... that was quite a contradiction by the way. telling me its "hip hop" and then saying fuck all those stupid labels..

by the way, J boogie and The Dining Rooms are sick.. and access has both of them!

Sirius,

Ninja Tune has been around about 10 years now...they have a really large catalogue or stuff out there. Check out there website. It's pretty good as far as showing there catalogue, artist bio's and real audio samples to almost all CD's.

http://www.ninjatune.net/home/

The stuff I like on that label are
Herbaliser
DJ Vadim
Kid Koala(great DJ scrath albums)
Blockhead(brand new release)
Sixtoo(getting released in May)
Amon Tobin
Mr. Scruff(I like about 1/2 his stuff...the more jazzy stuff, some is too on the electro side for me)
DJ Food(especially his Jazz Breaks albums)

there's a lot of other stuff on there but some of it I don't personally like so I can't really judge it.

If you like Afro beat check out Antibalas also on Ninjatune

Another label you might want to check out is Thirsty Ear. Great "modern jazz" with a hip hop flavour. Check out the Anti-Pop Consortium vs. Matthew Shipp, El-P's new one on that label, DJ Walley.

I find myself getting more open-minded in my old age nowadays as opposed to back in the days when it was all gansta rap etc.

Peace,

Steve
