Alright, I decided to share with my peeps about all the crap a brother gotta go though to do a weekly hip hop event. the first two weeks get a bye because of space permitting. So I'm starting from 1/9/04: the Raekwon show.
The night started out cool when I got there. The sound was good, the turntables were set up nice and I knew that the people were coming to the spot so it seemed like a good night. Let's jump to the shows. Now I must say Planet Asia had a real good show pretty much flawless. The crowd was dead. But Asia got them going finally. Then Aceyalone touched the stage. Now he was only suppose to be on for 45 mins but ended up playing for an hour or so. The weird thing was the middle of the show DJ Drez played some reggae and Mikah 9 led 3 ladies on stage to dance. I thought I was at Jamaican Gold (weekly reggae club). These girls were not that fine to let on stage and one of them was doing some wack ass poppin moves which was HORRIBLE. Anyway, the show went long. But the crowd was with them. Last but not least, Raekwon. Note to self: do not drink liquor before performing. Rae FORGOT almost ALL his lyrics to his most important songs. To make matters worse, I had to DJ for him which is cool but his manager wouldn't let me play for him the way I should have played for him. He was handing me the records but the songs he was handing me was not the ones we picked out. So Rae was very disapointing. The only good thing was RZA walked out and did his verses so that kinda made up for it.
So overall on a scale of 1-10:
