So, I was at Stop N' Save around the corner from my house the other day buying cigarettes and a lemon calistoga water and I noticed something of minor significance but I think its just interesting enough to share with some strangers on the internet.... here it is:
Middle aged yuppie suburban white people are going out of their way to be SUPER NICE to arab people in this post 9/11 pre "Showdown Iraq" social climate that were in....Theres nothing wrong with being nice to anyone, but I just think its funny.
So there was an unusually long line as Stop N' Save and I've got my water and I'm waiting and I notice that everyone in front of me is like "Hello, how are you doing today" and "thank you very much have a nice day" and putting on these really fake concerned "Dont worry I dont think youre a terrorist" smiles and speaking very slowly as if they want to make sure that the arab guy at the register notices how especially not prejudice and nice they are.
Shit, I've even found myself doing it. Theres one guy that works there thats around my age and I never really said much to him until recently we got into a conversation about war and shit and we were pretty in agreement that most presidents/dictators/prime ministers and what have you are peices of shit and all all they do is seek money and power while trying to put a humanitarian face on it and blah blah blah. and the funny thing is, I NEVER just shoot the shit with random people like that but since this guy probably thinks that I think that he might be out out hi-jacking fuckin book mobiles and putting cynide is the air conditioning at my work if he wasnt working at Stop N' Save I felt the need to be like "what up". and the funniest shit is, the dudes probably like Egyptian or Indian (I forgot to ask) or from some country that has nothing to do with any of the war bullshit.
So anyway, has anyone else noticed this or am I just reading way to far into people behavior and I should stop trying to establish motives for everything I see someone do?
