i just got that Stills album a week ago and i LOVE it...kind of U2ish at times (not a bad thing!)

since you like postal service and death cab for cutie, have you checked out Dntel (jimmy tamborello - the other half of postal service)? his album's pretty nice...

anyways, also on recoomendation from Vice Magazine of all places i just heard this artist Mileece that has an album out Formations...pretty music in the vein of Mum and the like....definately music to soothe your soul and send you into lullaby land

what else...

Sonic Youth
The Fall
The Swirlies
Kinski
Broken Social Scene (sw i slept on this!)

etc etc

these are the things i've discovered or been listening to full on in the last few weeks

If you can find a song by Takako called "Destron" check it out...that's the only song title I can think of off the top of my head, but it's one that I really like - much different than most of her other stuff though.
That's sweet that there'll be a new Mum. I heard that they once comosed music for an "under water" concert where the speakers were in a swimming pool and the people attending the concert were in the pool! That sounds like it coulda been a very cool performance.

THe Darkness hasn't left my player in a while. I think they're the only band to make 'you fucking cunt' in their lyrics to come across as eloquent. Others include

Paul Weller
The Jam
Sex Pistols
Radiohead
Nirvana
REM
Coldplay
Silverchair
Audioslave
Kruder and Dormeister (Mellow Drum and Bass)
Lots of Drum And Bass/Jungle

i've only heard a couple stuff that my homie had, and i thought it was some of the tightest dub shit i've heard. the title of the record i heard had something to do with space invaders or something, i forgot what it was. i also heard the stuff they have on gta3.

no worries. the group or back up band is the roots radics. scientist basically remixed what are called riddims or versions (popular roots riffs) with fx like echoes, flanges, delays, shit like that. king tubby and lee perry along with prince jammy were possibly the most influential figures in roots music. scientist came along at age 18 to follow in their footsteps and he CAME CORRECT! now there is a REAL living legend!! too many greats died young. jamaica is fucking gnarly.

I'd say I listen to just as much non hip hop as I do hip hop. I've got lots of good non hip hop bands for you though. Some of these might have already been listed but oh well:

Nirvana
Sublime
Our Lady Peace (only their old stuff. anything after happiness...I'm not really into)
Metallica
CCR
Linkin Park (I don't even care how mainstream they are, I love these guys!)
Tool
NIN
Rage Against the Machine
System of A Down
The Smashing Pumpkins
Christina Aguilera (just her new album. I know pop's not cool and shit but fuck! this girl is the shit!)
Pearl Jam
Jewel (only her first couple cd's)
Limp Bizkit - ONLY their first 2 cd's. I stress the ONLY.
Alanis Morissette
No Doubt
RPO www.rpoband.com *shameless plug :)
This list could go on forever, I'm going to stop now.
