that shit knocks hard. maybe it just gets me all nostalgic on some 9th grade shit. With this whole Michael Jackson rennaissance, I could easily replace it with "Thriller", or even better.. "Off the Wall".

the del stuff is all arguable cuz it's all different.. yes d.o.c.'s comeback shit is bootsy, but it doesn't diminish shit. if anything, it makes #1 shine that much brighter. it was my pleasure presenting my subpar list as i am a subpar music collector. besides, great artists don't have worst albums.. just varying degrees of greatness. does this count for my whole list? I really didn't want to include any records that were already on the lists above because that's pointless.. "ooh, we all like the same records, so we're all have good taste. woohoo!" that's parcheesey man. you probably dug "stakes is high" or "buhloone mindstate" more.. or maybe you like "Non Fiction" better than "A Wolf..", i don't know why anybody would, but if they do, hey, taste is in the eye of the be-taster... or maybe you like "The Equinox" better than "Stress..", again no comparison. I honestly never heard OK's 1st shit besides Fudge Pudge, so i ain't gonna front like i know it's the best.... or maybe you like the frikkin' "Jackson 5 Christmas Album" more than "off the wall". that's all kool and the gang PBY. this is just a list of cd's i still have that i would take with me on a trip in present times.. my shit changes. also, what do you mean by "any self-respecting fan"? fan of what?

sorry i wrote the comments. you made alot of good points.although bad muisc has been made by good artists. i was being stupid earlier not to mention devensive. you know that off the wall is the best. i m not parial to the christmas music by the 5.
so ok yes it was agood list and im glad everyone didnt say the same albums. i was just trying to spark converstaion in the first place not decide my taste is the best . so im sorry once again. i try not to ever FRONT on anything

Ojay
02-12-2003, 07:20 AM
don't trip. no apologies necessary. everyone gets defensive, especially me. i actually mentioned that jackson 5 xmas album cuz that was like my first record ever. and it's really a toss up between atliens and aquemeni for me. really though, who cares? it ain't even that crucial. now if i was to post my REAL top 10, fools would be like "no fucking way".

heres the first 10 i could think of in no particular order

wu-tang - 36 chambers
method man - tical
eligh - sidewaydaze
x-clan - to the east blackwards
brand nubian - all for one
gang starr - step in the arena
grouch - nothing changes

like i said, no particular order. actucally, id put up 10 different ones tomorrow cuz those are just albums i remember right now (i smoke too much :D)

Horace Silver "Cape Verdean Blues"
Miles Davis "Bitches Brew"
Blackbyrds "City Life"/"Flying Start"/the self titled one (i like all three equal)
The New Elvin Jones Trio "Puttin; It Together"
Bobby Hutcherson "Stick Up"
Lonnie Smith "Drives"
Cymande "Promised Heights"
Cannonball Adderley "Inside Straight"
Willis Jackson "Keep on Blowin'" (w/ Bro. Jack McDuff)
the JB's "Doin' It To Death"

I decided to just drop soul/jazz picks. Why not. Hip Hop's cool and all, but as far as albums that seriously change my mood or state of mind, these albums all have a strong influence on me.

And for the record, CHARLIE HUNTER IS A BAD MOTHERFUCKER.

peace.

one other thing, yes, the pm is right, No Need For Alarm MADE Del, by all means. It's still, to this day, the best Del album. It has the most heart. It's far more raw than anything he's done, far more energetic, and far more rounded out as far as I'm concerned. Then again I get dissed all the time for thinking it's still 1992. What do I know.

werd on the real top ten i would blow my mind with alot of crazeness if i did that i heard some of the best hip hop albums mentioned whats up with the jazz ? or rand b or indie rock? its all about the underground or bob marley hes a musical form on to himself you cant call the man reggae if he was he would be reggae

gunther b
02-12-2003, 08:02 PM
it's all about the underground? damn. i guess i'm not in the in crowd.

i listed a bunch of good jazz and soul artists. if you didn't notice. i don't really listen to "indie rock" though, sorry. i like fugazi.

sanitylastchance
02-12-2003, 08:33 PM
it was just a call for even more variety and the underground thing was a joke fugazi is good though
:o

Archer
02-12-2003, 10:37 PM
Ofcourse in no particular order.... just depends on the mood.. time and place... :D

Pharcyde: BizzareRide
Quasimotto: The Unseen.. especially for Astro Travelling... all you potheads feel me on this one...
The Cure: Wild Mood Swings
Shadow: UNKLE
Rage Against the Machine: The Battle of Los Angeles
Company Flow: Funcrusher Plus
Mystic Journeymen: tie between 4001: The Street Legacy
and Children ov the Night
Grouch: tie between Fuck the Dumb and Dont Talk To Me
(simply for Car Troubles... thats my fuckin anthem man...)
BJORK: Debut
Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane Collaboration: It was .
actually a quartet with Wilbur Ware on Bass and Shadow .
Wilson on Drums.. but they were never really .
recognized for it.

That was just the tip of the ice berg... too many favs to list...it will probably be a different list on a different day... =o)

pssh..you didnt know?..man, jazz and soul are for them old folks to listen to..its all about the hiphop dude!..*sense the sarcasm*

archer, i agree with you on Endtroducing.. that was my life soundtrack for a while.. but no, i really wasn't questioning Homer's pick of Aquemeni (It was on my list too).. it was just my feeble attempt of being sarcastic/ironic since Peabody Years came at me with ATLiens being the best no question. But that's in the past, and I really shouldn't be giving this matter any further attention. For the record, I pretty much like all of Outkast's albums equally.. they're all classic material. I had to pick one since I didn't want to just list Outkast's discography. hehe..

13 song is classic but Repeater remains a timeless classic for me...almost all of the tracks are amazing. The instrumentation techniques are innovative as well - a different era from the earlier Fugazi LPs. It rates high with me - I've been listening to that album consistantly since 95!

I agree with you on In On the Killtaker too, it's underrated and one of my favorite Fugazi LPs. That first instrumental track on side 2 is butter....

But then I remember Steady Diet of Nothing, which is just as amazing as In On the Killtaker. I need to get that on CD. Ahh, memories...

"The Dereliks EP"

GOOD CALL! Shane is supposed to be releasing their long lost full LP. have you heard it? It's super duper nice. Also, good call on the Siah n Yeshua (got doubles of that EP) and that Polyrhythmatics. Too many sleep on that group. Spinna's production was real nice.

I don't know, but right I'm really feeling Mission's "One", the new Zion-I, Grouch's 'Crusader For Justice' and Tee Double's 'Lost scriptures'.

I agree! Beats are very solid. Vocals are tight too. Too bad this is criminally slept on by everyone including fans of the first LP!

yea this songs fresh......

Sound System gonna bring me back up
One thing that I can depend on.
Try to describe it as a limit of my ability;
It's there for a second
Then it's given up what it used to be.
Contained in music somehow more than just sound,
This inspiration coming and twisting things around
Because you always know that it's gonna have to go.
You always know that you'll be back in the cold.
Point of departure sublimated in a song
It's always coming to give me that hope
for just a second then it's gone but!
(Chorus)
Static pulse inside of music bringing us escape.
It's always temporary, changing nothing in it's wake...
Just a second where we're leaving all this shit behind.
Just a second but it's leaving just this much in mind:
To resist despair, the second makes you see...
To resist despair, because you can't change everything...
To resist despair, in this world is what it is to be free.
(Chorus)
Wake up turn my box on,
Bust the shade, let the sun in.
Times getting tougher 'bout time to start runnin'
Box in my hand music by my side,
Skankin' to the rhythm of the music by my side.

but on the real, all there songs are dope, good lyrics and good music.

yup, i personally like it more than their debut, even though that had 2 unforgetable classics on there: 'Recognized Thresholds' and 'Strange' i wasn't fully feeling the whole album. but 'god sound' had me going...the "lunchroomtable" was some ill shit, they were lyrically on an wild level that time talking all that esoteric and conspiracy shit...behold a pale horse.....we was on it ;)

My friend played some of the upcoming Dereliks LP for me, and it's incredible. But I was under the impression that the new stuff is just that, new tracks, instead of old cuts that didn't make it the first time. If you had never heard "Turn On The Wheel..." you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 95 and 02 joints. But when is it gonna drop? I swear it was about six months ago that I saw the flyers out... they can't flake on this one!

You're a lucky bastard for having doubles of Siah & Yeshua Gunther. My copy is one of my most cherished records. Not too many of those around...

word. i've been looking on that Turn on The Wheel on wax since the tape was out basically. I bought the tape new, never saw the vinyl. then one day igot a dub of the whole album (that the Turn On The wheel EP was from i guess). It's really really nice. I thought maybe Shane was putting that one out. But hey, if it's all new tracks and they are still as dope as they were, that's even better! I'll have to ask Shane about the progress on that. hell yes. i can't wait!
