Has anybody heard the newest releases by Cody Chessnut (featured on the newest Roots album) or Calvin Richardson? I just saw this special on Calvin Richardson on BET this weekend and he sounds dope- he calls his music "real soul" and boy is it soulful. it's got that d'angelo/marvin gaye/classic r&b sound to it. and as for Cody Chesnutt, his music sounds real funky/soulful. i saw a thing on MTV on him a while back, and since then i've been meaning to check out his music but never got around to it.

just wondering if any of you are familiar with their music, and if so, how is it? i'm in need of something refreshing to listen to, and these guys sound like what i need.

*edit: on cody chesnutt's website he's got audio of his new stuff so that will help! http://www.codychesnutt.com/flash.html

i enjoy both of those guys' albums..calvin richardson's album is really good..i can't knock anything about it..as for cody chesnuTT's album..i really enjoy it, although i wish he would have taken the time to clean it up..as far as sound goes..mixing, mastering..but, thats how he wanted it..regardless..it is a really good album..2 of the better artists in soul music right now..

Didn't he (Cody) make his whole album on his computer? As in played all the instruments and everything? I thought i read that somewhere.

Chesnutt is real funky, i like everything i've heard. Haven't heard of Calvin Richardson, i'll have to check for him.

yes..he did everything on the album..down to recording and mixing..alot of people like how it sounds..i dont mind it..but i would rather him spend more time 'cleaning' it up..and making it sound 'better'..still a really good album none the less..

Like you've already heard, the Cody Chesnutt album is cool yet unpolished which gives it some character.... Pick it up...

Two others that will not let you down are the Dwele album (Best damn $9.99, I spent in a while. Killin it since like June!) and the Anthony Hamilton album ( It took a couple listens but after that it's been on constant).

Just a couple of good ass R&B albums to add to the collection if you don't got em already...
