View Full Version : Anyone ever get a jaywalking ticket?
I just got one this morning. what a bitch. I don't even know how much the fine is. the thing is.. i jaywalk everyday, everywhere.. it was actually kinda funny.. i walk from my house to the ferry building everyday and jaywalk twice each morning to cut across the half-empty parking lot for the ferry terminal. i'm walking around 5:30 am so it's dark as fuck. and cop is just posted up by his bike under a tree. I get halfway across the street when I see him, but i really don't feel like doing a walking u-turn and walking to the crosswalk so i maintain my course thinking he won't say anything (same thing happened yesterday, but I got away.. he was busy writing someone else a jaywalking ticket so I cut through some bushes and walked around them to the boat), but he stops me and quickly writes out a citation. what's funny too is that he's been giving out like 10 tickets a morning this week (that's just the folks on my boat). i'm not even really mad because it's nothing really, but c'mon. jaywalking? i'm too old for this shit. i look both ways before crossing and the only cars on the street are turning into the parking lot. i guess he found the hotspot for handing out tickets at 5 in the morning in vallejo. my homie takes the same route and was about to call me to warn me (he got a ticket too), but didn't have any change. so i started my day off breaking a law and getting cited for it (good & bad).. if anyone knows how much this ticket usually costs, pls let me know.
Plus, it's the end of the month, so all the piggys are trying to hit that last minute quota. If you ever notice, cops are always just a little more bitchmade around the 20-31st of every month.
But no, i've never recieved a ticket for jaywalking, thats just ridiculus that he even called you on that.
I'd be vexed.
thing is, i know i don't have a chance contesting some shit like this. i know he gives these out like candy.. he prolly already wrote 20 of them by now (just today). my friend's court date was the same as mine.. so i'm sure he'll be there.. it's not like my city's the crime capital of the world or anything, but vallejo was listed last year as the most dangerous city in california for pedestrians... not enough crosswalks, low on foot traffic (everybody drives), and the walk signals don't even last long enough to cross the wide-ass streets. i was pissed for a sec, but oh well rock the bells!

Yup, the quota. But I was under the impression that you were allowed to jaywalk so long as there isn't a crosswalk within 100 yards or so. I dunno, I could be wrong.

probably. but there was a crosswalk not too too far from where i got cited. i bet the cop measured it out and set up shop within the 100-yard line. I just heard from someone at work that they got a similar citation back in '93 in SF, and it was $50. I coulda saved time and acreage just by following the rules. oh wizell.

jesus h christo! $77!!! and a fucking parking ticket is only $35? i tell you guys, our city governments are so fucked up. what about biking on the sidewalk or skateboarding? anybody ever gotten a ticket for those? ain't that some stupid ass shit? i wonder how they base the fine? maybe it has something to do with the amount of related deaths or injuries to the 'crime' and so that's how they set the fine. who knows, but it's still pretty fucked up.
it's getting higher and higher by the minute. this guy had a motorcycle and would've definitlely rolled up on me in front of all the regular commuters. I'm not doing it on that street anymore, but I'mma be a jaywalker4life! WHAT!

when you let it sit that's when it starts getting REAL expensive...
but i don't even know how much it is yet.. supposed to get another ticket in the mail in a week. i have to pay this unless i want to go to court at the end of february. i really don't want to go to court, so i'll pay it. yeah, i'm already owing hella creditors right now for parking tickets in like 3 different counties. i'll get around to it one of these days. it's cool because i don't own a car right now.

oh yeah, i got one...
right after i turned 21. i was shitfaced at 3 in the afternoon on my way to jam 4 peace (an annual hip hop festivel in milwaukee with about a million performers. that year it was- among many others- ice cube, bone, mase, 69 boyz, joe, weak ass montell jordan...fuck, i don't even remember who else was there...), and i somehow managed to get a jaywalking ticket crossing the street. the cop should have just given me a public drunkeness, or disturbing the peace, or some shit like that, because i at least deserved that and could accept it easier. i was with about 10 people and somehow was the only one that managed that feat. my buddies who were there (along with the ones that weren't there, for that matter) still make fun of my ass for that to this day.
