Yeah, there is a song on Beat Machine 2 that uses the same sample as a song on Greenball, I noticed that too. Jel makes some interesting shit.

Prefuse 73- One Word Extinguisher

Monster Island Czars- Escape From Monster Island

T-Love- A Long Way Back

Yo I heard Mad Villain isn't coming out at all due to sample issues. Weak... that and the other two upcoming Doom LPs have potential, as does the 3MG album.

My God please say it ain't so! I've been feenin' for this album since the Stones Throw promo CD. Those two could have been buried under the jail for Doomsday, Soundpieces, Downfall of Ibiliyis, Unseen, and countless singles where they sampled everything that wasn't nailed down. Why are sample issues cropping up all of a sudden???

it's surprising how much shit gets leaked. the full length is already available. i guess i just have bad taste. i was only feeling 4 songs from shades of blue and one or two tracks off madvillain. there were seriously no hard hitting snares.

agreed about sob.

Shades of blue had some dope samples, and it was tight to hear those songs flipped, but it just wasn't cohesive enough..... there were about 6 bars on the whole cd that i could actually nod my melon too......

And, Siant, I can concede Shades of Blue not having many "head-nodders", but the album is easily some of the freshest, cool-out shit I've heard in awhile. Especially Distant Land, Montara and Stormy. Now if Madlib was remixing the Stax catalog or some old-school funk labels you may have a point, but jazz is a cool-out form of music to begin with. I don't know if the expansion/interpretation of jazz songs into hype, hard-hitting shit is realistic, at least from a full-length standpoint.

Damn, hella shit's dropping Oct 7 - Lyrics Born and Good Brothers are two more coming out that day! I'll be buying those, but defiantely passing on Soul Position...that's probably the worst album I've bought in the past two years.

As for top albums of the year so far? I'd have to put King Geedorah and M.I.C. on there right now cos I've been listening to them so much lately. Did MF Grimm's "Downfall" come out this year or last? The new Lyrics Born album might make the list if his past work is any indicator of his new stuff.

UG Fiend.

Trust me, i understand what "jazz is"... but taking your remarks into consideration, is it still not a cohesive form of music? (Aside from certain types... fusion, etc..). Shades of Blue gets credit, but at the same time, it sounded like loosley knit, 4 bar samples strewn together.....

I already said, it was dope to hear what he did with those records, but i guess i just expected better arrangement from the Beat Conductor.
