I know... "then dont watch the news then, stupid" but sometimes I think I subsonciously want to piss myself off, so I'll turn on the tube and observe. Yesterday they were talking about the civil war in Liberia and how some African leaders are asking for US troops as part of a peace keeping force. So, the news guy said something like:

"Is there no end to what we'll involved in? We have no business interests in Liberia, what could possibly be the pretext?"

I couldnt fucking believe this human peice of shit actually said that. And the way that he said it, with that fake fuckin sports announcer cadence that all these people try to use, makes me fuckin sick. And thats like logical, rational thinking as far as millions of people in this counrty (and elsewhere) are concerned.

I'm not a military guy, so I dont know how effective a "peace keeping force" would be, but if it can improve the istuation at all then I think that would be a noble use of the US military might that were always fucking babbling about, but more so, I think the Liberians should just stop killing eachother, but if the US is gonna talk all this fake humanitarian bullshit then direct your fuckin resources to places in the world where its needed the most.

This world is a backward ass place.

wasn't Liberia started by expatriated African Americans who wanted to start their own thing in Africa? why do they need America to keep the peace for? that's kinda backwards in itself, isn't it?

With all the dirt Saddam did, I wondered why we just didn't use the human rights excuse to go after him...

Then I remembered that I think the USA is second only to China in human rights abuse, so we would've gotten laughed at hard...

If I had heard the newscaster say that evil shit I'd be pissed off too.

yeah, they shouldnt need anyone to "keep the peace" for them, I agree. They should know that what theyre doing is just not bright. But if innocent people are getting killed by the thousands in the middle of a civil war and a UN "peace keeping" force could stop that or at least put a sizeable dent in it, then the US along with all the other 'civilized stand up for the good of man kind but really we only care about money' bullshit countries in the world should intervene there and try to help people instead of spending all their time and resources on scare campaigns directed at their own citizenry and invading countries with excuses like" because they maybe theoretically could potentially one day possibly attack us if they had a way to do so at some point in the future" when really is painfulyy obvious that theyre just gangking oil and generating huge-ass business oppotunitys for US compaines. Basically, try and help people if you can instead of padding your own wallet, thats my whole point.

Bush couldnt rely too heavily on the human rights thing with Saddam, becuase if that was his reason to invade, everybody would have been like "but what about these other countries". So he had to play the "WMD! be affraid theyre gonna get us!" card.

I'm just wondering why they havent at least faked some huge WMD finding yet.

the united states has the number one spot on the list for children in poverty, not africa, not china, but the united states. we will always be out trying to "help" all these other countries and what not but what about the people who need "help" in our own yard? innocent kids are starving by the millions and there is about an ounce of effort going into trying to alleviate that.
(not that i have a problem with "helping" other countries. but we are out looking for things we cant find and all the while there is tons of shit right under our noses.)

innocent kids are starving and dying by the millions and day after day and we also prove to be the "biggest wasters" on the planet.

we let thousands of pounds of food sit on coasts to rot to shit because we get pissy at people for not doing what we tell them to do...

"Basically, try and help people if you can instead of padding your own wallet, thats my whole point. "

i will pee my pants in front of thousands if this ever ends up being the case in politics.. i promise.

i had a point when i started writing this... im not sure if its the same point anymore though.

oh, i agree with you... but, i'm not exactly sure what the US or UN defines as Peace Keeping... ya know? i mean.. there's a gun called a PeaceMaker... i wonder how much peace has resulted from it's use. thinking about this kind of stuff just gives me a headache... that's why i don't usually watch the news... and i just recently stopped reading so much of the paper... i just stick to all the prissy shit like the Datebook and even the Sports section sometimes.. the world is fucking itself, and i don't mean to sound like an asshole who doesn't care.. but now that i think of it, someone should be up in there regulating.. i mean, the people of Liberia are asking for it, right?

I don't think so...I think the government that's currently in power is asking for it. I don't know much about the situation, so I can't take sides...but there's gotta be a reason for a civil war. What if some 3rd party came in and helped out the Confederates during ours?

Well, yeah, one would just hope that the 3rd party comes to aid of the "good guys".

I'm just saying that civil wars are fought over something that is quite important to the people of the country. And our track-record for helping the "good guy" in civil wars isn't exactly the greatest. I don't know who the "good guy" is in this war, I was just saying it was likely the government is the one asking for our help and they might not be the ones we should be helping.
