NEW DVD:

Big Pun - Big Pun: The Legacy DVD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17976
His rhymes caught attention of millions. His flow is unmatched by
any. His story is captivating and triumphant. Back in 98, Big Pun, a
Puerto Rican from the Bronx made history by becoming the first
Latino rapper to sell over a million records. Later that year his
album Capital Punishment was nominated for a Grammy. Nearly every
artist in the Hip Hop community desired to record with Pun. His
presence stunned the music world, as millions of fans patiently
awaited his future releases. Tragically, on February 7th 2000, Big
Pun's life was cut short when he suffered a heart attack. Experience
the ups and the downs, even the story of his struggle with weight
gain, his involvement with Terror Squad and more through a series of
interviews with today's Hip Hop stars and never before seen footage.

FEATURED ITEMS OF THE WEEK:

Dam-Funk - Toeachizown 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17899
This double-CD collects five EPs (LAtrik, Fly, Life, Hood, and Sky)
from one of the funkiest dudes Stones Throw has ever signed. Dam-
Funk brings back that retro hip hop and electro boogie and funk like
it was the 80's all over again. Like Arabian Prince or Mantronix,
creating electronic beats to sound so authentically like funk, was
just as important as sampling was for laying down the groundwork for
hip hop and what it would become. Dam-Funk's refusal to let go of
this lost sound is what makes it so fun, you feel his love for it.
Toeachizown is scheduled to also be issued as a 5xLP vinyl set.

Paten Locke - Super Ramen Rocketship CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18113
A bonafide triple threat! Producer/DJ/Emcee aka Therapy of the AB's
(Alias Brothers) or formerly the Jacksonville, Florida group known
as Asamov drops his debut on Tres Records, one of the most
consistent labels in underground hip hop today! With so many
breakthrough artists and albums on their label such as Shawn
Jackson, Y Society, Giant Panda, Johnson and Johnson, and much much
more, I assume they've got to be a pretty selective collective of
people in order to maintain this reputation. That said, Tres has
done it again! And out of nowhere too! Only a few months back Paten
Locke's lead single "Break Thru" was released, but it left us eager
for more and the album delivers on all levels. Beats and lyrics,
traditional and modern, Super Ramen Rocketship has completed lift
off and we are happy to report that it is one of our favorites and
worthy of its Tres Records release. We've actually had the in-store
demo playing since the summer and we have been waiting to be able to
share it with the rest of you all this time...I actually feel guilty
cuz of it. No guests, no guest producers, no guest dj laying down
cuts...Paten does it all. Don't sleep!

Speak Easy (Bleek+Avatar) - Speak Easy CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18141
Speak Easy is the new project (and group name) of two veterans of
the L.A. underground, Bleek (of the Shapeshifters and Ex Vandalz)
and Avatar, who pulls double duty here as an emcee and producer.
They describe the eponymous debut album as "tales of drunken
debauchery..." leading "the listener through L.A.'s alleyways like a
pub-crawl from hell, Bleek and Avatar's drug-induced whims guiding
the way." Guest appearances by 2Mex, Awol One, Tash, Akuma,
Existereo, Perk One, Jizzm High Definition, Qba Libre, Concept, Tha
Conclusion and Disaster. Detailed credits soon.

NEW RELEASES:

Bernard Purdie - Soul Drums (expanded ed.) CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18299
Bernard Purdie is one of the best known drummers of all time, in all
genres of music, recording with Aretha Franklin, the Beatles, King
Curtis, Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, The
Last Poets, Roberta Flack, James Brown and many more. In 1967 he
entered a studio with a few friends to cut his first solo album,
Soul Drums. The LP has become one of the most sought after drum
records among vinyl collectors. With its heavy reverb psych/funk
sound, this record will blow you away! Now remastered and
available for the first time on CD, with the addition of eight bonus
tracks, rumored to be from the follow-up LP which was never
released. The CD also includes liner notes from a recent interview
with Bernard and unpublished photos from the original sessions.

Camp Lo - Another Heist CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18176
Camp Lo continues their roll with "Another Heist." Once again the
vivid imagery of Black Caesar, Super Fly, Black Belt Jones, Willie
Dynamite, Dolemite and the like spring to the front of the mind as
Sonny Cheea and Geechi Suede take you through a brand new full
length adventure. The Bronx duo keep with their trademark
blaxploitation inspired sound as they're joined start to finish by
long time collaborator/producer Ski (aka Ski Beatz). In addition to
being the man responsible for the renowned production found on Camp
Lo classics like their legendary debut "Uptown Saturday Night," Ski
worked on Jay-Z's debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," producing the
cuts "Dead Presidents," "22 Two's," "Politics as Usual" and the hit
single "Feelin' It." With Ski on board and behind the boards for
the entirety of Another Heist, Camp Lo stays true to the sound that
made them famous.

Cormega - Born and Raised CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18174
Born and Raised is Cormega's highly anticipated follow up to "The
True Meaning" and his critically acclaimed 2001 debut "The
Realness." Cormega, real name Cory McKay, grew up in the
Queensbridge Housing Projects, forming childhood friendships with
future rappers such as Nas, Mobb Deep, Nature and Capone-N-Noreaga.
Noted for his vivid and poignant narratives about inner-city life,
Mega gained notoriety in the 90s, despite still being incarcerated,
following a shout-out from Nas on his song "One Love" on the
classic Illmatic album. "Born and Raised" features an all star cast
of legendary producers including DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete
Rock, LES, Buckwild, Havoc, Nottz, Easy Mo Bee, Ayatollah, Fizzy
Womack, and DR Period as well as appearances from EMPD's Parish
Smith, Brand Nubian's Grand Puba, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Tragedy
Khadafi, Mobb Deep's Havoc and Fame of MOP.

CunninLynguists - Southernunderground 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=4965
One of the most consistent independent Hip Hop groups of the decade,
Kentucky trio CunninLynguists re-release their critically acclaimed
sophomore album SouthernUnderground as a two disc deluxe edition. The
group, made up of Deacon The Villain, Natti and Kno, aim to make
music that reminds listeners why they like Hip Hop in the first
place. Backed with quality beats and rhymes, gritty sounds, witty
lyrics and low ends that jump out the trunk like Rajon Rondo, the
'Lynguists recapture the soul in southern Hip Hop, with what
Spin Magazine calls "Outkast's tragicomic poignancy".
SouthernUnderground, originally released independently in 2003,
includes features from Masta Ace, Supastition and Tonedeff.
Additional production from RJD2 and Domingo, goes hand-in-hand
with beats from the main producer Kno, who was once described as
"one of the top loop-miners east of the Mississippi" by URB
Magazine. Disc 2 contains sixteen previously unreleased tracks that
are made up of three remixes, twelve instrumentals and one song
taken from a 2002 vinyl only compilation called Boom Bap For
Neanderthals. The SouthernUnderground deluxe edition comes out a
week before the group's newest effort "Strange Journey Volume Two".

Diamond District - In The Ruff 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18066
The new DC hip hop group "The Diamond District", includes Oddisee,
X.O. & YU. Oddisee's soulful, haunting samples over bass-heavy beat
breaks create the perfect instrumentals for street savvy,
politically conscious lyrics by XO, YU and Oddisee himself. "In The
Ruff" is a raw mid-90's Boom-Bap themed album for the DC state of
mind, destined to appeal to all lovers of hip hop's golden era,
managing to travel back in time and push the boundaries of DC
Hip-Hop simultaneously.

Machina Muerte (Mestizo and friends) - Muerte Por Vida CDR
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18312
Mestizo presents a jam-packed sampler from his newly started label,
Machina Muerte! Featuring LA undergrounders from extended Project
Blowed camp to Galapagos4 transplants including tracks by Qwaazar,
Rheteric, Sahtire, Saviorself of San Diego's Old English, plus
production from Magi aka TS, Maker, Meaty Ogre, Silence, Maker, Kip
Killigan, Mestizo himself and more! Promising comp with hopefully
more big things to follow!

Dirty Digital (Qwazaar) - Dirty Digital CDR WITH FREE CD & POSTER
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18313
What I believe was originally meant to be an experiment in
electronica/house and hip hop from Galapagos4 producer Silence and
Typical Cats emcee Qwazaar, has appeared to have changed course and
avoided being shelved and has turned into a straight up collection
of new and unreleased material from the Chicago pair's side venture
as Dirty Digital. Now more of a tour-style release, it's still a
nice offering and hopefully just a taste of what these two have
brewing. Comes with the original CD single "Sodapopinkski" and a
poster.

DJ Haul & Mason - 4-Turntable Beatdown v2 CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18322
You could even call it a symbolic beatdown with a 2x4! Meaning a
maxter mix and mash up by 2 DJ's 4 turntables! Though circulated and
downloaded online exclusively around 2007, DJ's Haul and Mason's
first Beatdown mix was from a live set recorded in Japan in 2004.
Volume 2, now officially pressed, is for all those who may have
missed the downloads. Heat!

Killah Priest - Elizabeth CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18175
He's been called a prophet, an innovator, a poet; whichever you
prefer, the veteran emcee and Wu affiliate known as Killah Priest is
certainly one of the most vivid lyricists in Hip Hop, with his lush
imagery, graphic storytelling and razor-sharp rhymes. With
"Elizabeth (Introduction To The Psychic)". Priest delivers a solid
full length of head nodders sure to satisfy Wu-Tang fans worldwide,
while staying true to his spiritual side and his firm belief in the
power of Hip Hop.

Koushik - Out My Window Instros CD WITH FREE Koushik Fan Club 45 "A1"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18265
Man! It's been like a Koushik overload over the last couple of
months and I love it! Let's break it down, though he became known
on Stones Throw for his psychedelic and funky folk hop, singing to
the tune of his own gorgeous production, with a unique style very
similar to that of producer Nobody, this year he hit us with Rhythm
Traxx Volume 5, which featured original breaks unlike his previous
work and really showed that he knows how to crank out the beats,
then he released from his archives the Beep Tape, which featured a
collection of heaters, and just last week, another collection on
Mixobeats, a two-disc release which also featured personal remixes.
Here we have the intricate instrumentals to his 2008 album Out My
Window, and again fans of Nobody or Bibio for comparison.

Lazer Sword - Gucci Sweatshirt 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18114
New club killer getting lots of play worldwide since about '07
finally gets a 12" treatment! Featuring the original hard hitting
dubstep/grime style "Gucci Sweatshirt" plus a 2009 remix, a Neon
Black more uptempo remix, and the exclusive b-side "Jet Black."
The DJ/Producer duo have shared the stage with Flying Lotus and
Gaslamp Killer and this single is definitely for fans of Mono/Poly,
Hudson Mohawke, Bassnectar or Major Lazer from Diplo and Switch.

Namo - Long Walks Off Short Piers CD EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18334
More dope downtempo compositions from LA Producer/DJ Namo! After two
EP's that seemed to feel more like full lengths (coming in at over
15 tracks each) Long Walks Off Short Piers falls under the
definition of the EP with only eight but eight solid tracks, heavy
on his ear for hypnotic jazz and samples with hints of electronic
and ambiance. A worthy label is sure to discover him eventually...
instrumental heads, get this! Companion 7" is sold out but will be
restocked soon!

The Natural Yogurt Band - Away With Melancholy CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18115
First of two exclusive and limited releases from Now Again that you
won't want to miss. Authentic, psychedelic library vibes from the
golden era meticulously recreated in the new millennium. This is the
expanded version of the Natural Yogurt Band's now out-or-print debut
album, with three never before released bonus tracks and comes
packaged as a gatefold in thick cardboard "pasted on" silver foil
limited to 1,000 copies.

Oh No - Oh No vs. Now Again CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17937
Next up and also extremely limited! The Oh No vs. Now-Again Music
Library features 29 exclusive beats originally never before
available. Originally created as music for television and film
backdrops, the fans spoke and Now-Again and Oh No listened. Here's a
chance to get the multi talented producer/rapper/DJ's take on the
vast catalog of funk, soul and psychedelia contained in the
Now-Again vaults. Limited to 500 copies, and will not be repressed!
Presented in a "mini-LP" package with a thick cardboard, tip-on
sleeve with an obi strip.

Outta Control - Daily Dose CDR
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18315
Brand new music from OCT, the fearsome foursome that toured and
opened all over California before finally completing their own
self titled full length in 2007. Daily Dose is another dose of their
ever so Cali-familiar party lifestyles and laid back ways as well
as proof of their good connections made from touring with some of the
undergrounds most seasoned vets, with a guest appearance from Swollen
Members' Madchild for example. For fans of Instant Messangers.

Ultimate Breaks & Beats - Instrumentals Vol. 3 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18269
Third in the series of re-worked and extended breakdowns of the
classic Breaks and Beats catalog! Because simply giving you the
plain originals has been done and compiled in many different ways
would be too boring... Traffic has decided to make things
interesting, UB&B Vol. 1 was recreated by El Michel's Affair and
got things going, while Vol. 2 was headed by Mr. Chop! Players from
The Revelations and other live instrumentation were recorded to
bring us all the classic Rock breaks used in hip hop through the
years on Vol. 3 while the first two focused on the classic funk and soul
breaks. Like the others, these are extended, with even more live
band inclusions and extensions in length making it very user,
producer and DJ friendly! HEAT!

Various Artists - Tru Thoughts 10th Anniv. 3xCD or 2xCD Versions
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18099
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18098
Tru Thoughts celebrates their 10th year anniversary in 2009 with a
limited edition 3xCD box set featuring two 'Best Of' discs, and a
third disc of completely new, previously unreleased music. The three
CDs are presented in a hardback book stuffed with glossy photos and
juicy tales, making this package a must-have for all Tru Thoughts
fans.

D.Black - Ali'Yah CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17780
D.Black you might remember from his track on Jake One's "White Van
Music" album. Now he's putting out a solo album on Keelay & Zaire's
new Myx Music label.

d.GrindZ - Gone 4 a While CDR
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18342
Originally from Chicago, local rapper d.GrindZ is unsigned and on the
hustle trying to get heard in the indie scene.

NOW ON VINYL:

BK-One - Radio Do Canibal 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17950
Brother Ali's main tour DJ BK-One and a mountain of records he
amassed while in Brazil with help from Benzilla on production
present a collection of Brazilian funk-inspired hip hop like no
other. Rhymesayers is having a stellar year with releases from
Brother Ali, Toki Wright, Eyedea and Abilities, Abstract Rude and
now Radio Do Canibal! This is a soothing and satisfying listen from
start to finish featuring guest appearances by Brother Ali, Slug,
P.O.S, Raekwon, Black Thought, I Self Divine, The Grouch, Murs, Toki
Wright, Blueprint, Haiku D'Etat Scarface and more. Right up there
with some of our other favorite producer presented compilations this
year like DJ Spinna's Sonic Smash or Ancient Astronauts' We Are To
Answer and DJ JS1's No Sellout.

Chali 2NA - Fish Outta Water 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18135
From his roots on the south side of Chicago, to his subsequent
explosion onto the Los Angeles underground scene, Chali 2na
epitomizes the portrait of a 21st century artist. Probably best
known as front man for the groups Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali 2na
presents his first solo effort in a fifteen-plus year career,
following up only the Fish Market mixtape from 2004 and of course
his work with J5. with his unmistakable, beloved baritone has firmly
established himself as one of the most distinctive personalities in
hip hop. With the varied musical, socio-cultural and geographical
influences that have shaped him, Chali 2na's debut release offers
not only new collaborations but also a melting pot of provocative
lyrics and true artistry. Featuring guest appearances by Elzhi (of
Slum Village), Talib Kweli, Damian Marley, Stephen Marley and more
with production by DJ Babu, Jake One, Vitamin D and DJ Nu-Mark among
others!

Ghostface Killah - The Wizard of Poetry 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17860
I don't know if the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz was any
coincidence or not, but Ghostface returns under the guise of
Ghostdini with The Wizard of Poetry. A concept album and ode to
doing what he does best on the mic along with his love for women.
And although his poetry is of a different kind of wit and charm to
woo his ladies, beyond all the raunchiness and in-your-face graphic
details and depictions of sex is a man whose heart belongs to his
one true vice. Featuring appropriately placed male and female R&B
vocals to back up his ballads by Shareefa, Raheem "Radio" Devaughn,
Jack Knight, Fabolous, John Legend, Kanye West and Ne-Yo.

Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17639
International superstar and multi-media mogul Jay-Z is one of the
best selling rap artists of all time, and for as successful as he
has become he still remains a highly respected lyricist in hip hop
communities all over the world. This final installment to the
Blueprint series comes seven years after part 2, and follows The
Black Album, his retirement (which didn't last long), his comeback
with Kingdom Come and his 2007 full length soundtrack American
Gangster, inspired by the movie. Blueprint 3 once again re-unites
Jay with some of the best in the business and the best selling, with
production and appearances by Kanye West and Swizz Beats, The
Neptunes, NO ID, Timbaland, and appearances by the most popular
mainstream talent out there, including Kid Cudi, Rhianna, Alicia
Keys and more.

KRS One & Buckshot - Survival Skills 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17982
After making their indelible marks in hip hop, luminaries KRS-One and
Buckshot, arguably two of the games most prolific emcees to remain
consistent since the golden days, link up to give fans a
collaboration for the decade with Survival Skills. On the surface
the album is a testament to the resiliency of the two lyrical
titans, but at its root it can be interpreted as a blueprint for
life and in hip hop through the years. "Robot," was the first single
off of the album and was also a jab at the mainstream's obsession
with the overused auto tune featured in today's pop, rap and R&B
songs and released six weeks prior to Jay Z's "The Death Of Auto
Tune." "I don't want people to get the averaged cliched version
and thinking that we're dissing people,'" Buckshot clarifies. Still
gritty tracks like "Clean Up," featuring Rock of Heltah Skeltah and
the politically minded "Running Away" featuring Immortal Technique,
make Survival Skills a well balanced album for any fan of the boom
bap that is sorely lacking these days. Featuring production by Havoc
(of Mobb Deep), Black Milk, Marco Polo, Nottz, Illmind and 9th
Wonder with guest appearances by Talib Kweli, Mary J. Blige, Smif-N-
Wessun, Naledge (of KidzIn The Hall), Slug (of Atmosphere) and more.

Skyzoo - The Salvation 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=18063
Brooklyn native Skyzoo's first true solo debut, "The Salvation," is
executive produced by 9th Wonder and features production from Just
Blaze, 9th Wonder, Needlz, Illmind, Black Milk and more. In 2006,
Skyzoo dropped his "Cloud 9" album which started to build a heavy
buzz steadily growing louder through numerous free mix CDs, free
songs promoted online, and more than 2.3 million plays on his
Myspace page.
