Damn, if only Atmosphere LP's were this consistent.
Ant's got some of the best beats of the year on this little EP, and so far a couple of my favorite songs of the year as well. While Ant is always the star of the show with this duo IMO, Slug brought some great songwriting and innovation to the EP as usual. If you are a fan of this duo, go download this NOW!
Best cuts: "They Always Know" & "Mother's Day"
My rating: 4.5 stars

I've honestly never been able to get into Atmosphere and don't get why everybody is so into them. I had got the Dynospectrum CD and liked 3 tracks. (then sold it on ebay)

Dynospectrum isn't that great IMO either.
I'm from Minnesota, and I may be bias. So they are a group I like a lot.
However, this duo does not have a classic 5 star LP out of their entire discography. I guess you could call them regional, even if they are one of the biggest regional acts in the country. I can see why some people do not like them, because Slug is not mind-blowing as a lyricist, and breaks no new ground. That said, I do feel Ant is a top 20 producer. He's really the star of the duo IMO.

I disagree.
I don't dig Ant's style.
Over the years I have liked Atmosphere, but not loved them.
That being said, Slug is the only reason I listen to Atmosphere.

To each their own. Personally, Ant is about top 5 for me. But that's because I love his style. And from a technical aspect, I also think he's top notch whether you like him or not. I cannot say those things about Slug. I am a huge Slug fan though. But I can see why some people call him average. He's better than that to me, but I wouldn't even argue it.

hmmmm, what is there not to like? personally i think he makes some of the best beats around. hes got a wide variety of kick back jams as well. shit has always hit clean & super smooth on my system, thanks to ant as well as slug smooth flow. plus he holds it down for portraying female problems.... great shit imo.
i have always dug his sad clown offerings, and interney releases almost more so than his "official" album releases....thanks just me thou.

Yeah, you like the regional midwest funk sound like me. I usually like that stuff a bit more. But I do think they release solid official albums every time out. I tend to listen to the EPs more though. lol (minus Sevens Travels...my fav of theirs)

that's why I said I don't dig it rather than saying he makes bad beats. His production is clean, and his technique is their - I guess it's just the samples/loops and execution of them that I don't get into.
I find that a lot of the songs just don't have longevity, and by that I mean something I go back and listen to after hearing it for months.
I remember when the first Felt came out, loved it, too bad it was a short EP. Wished for a follow up. Was the same thing with Felt 2 - couldn't get into it like I did with the first, but Grouch produced that.
Not knocking him, just not my thing.

when it comes too Funk, no one does it better than the Cuf imo - in the last Deep Fried Funk Brothers they mentioned a new Cuf album, that was years ago now, hope it will still happen.
but thats westcoast funk.
