We are saddened by the news of Michael Jackson's death but like the rest of the world, celebrate his legacy. All said and done, Michael led an incredible, if strange and controversial, life that will probably go unmatched for all eternity. His presence and inspiration in all genres of music will last
lifetimes beyond his own. Rest in peace.

NEW DVD:

De La Soul - Me Myself & I DVD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17480
With their clever, surrealistic lyrics, inventive use of sampling
and incorporating an eclectic mix of reggae, funk, jazz, fashion and
psychedelia into their sound, New York-based De La Soul are one of
the most original and influential hip hop groups of all time.
Rapping about peace and love rather than about sleaze and violence
like most of their considerably more hardcore rap contemporaries,
De La Soul come across as modern day hippies, an image which found
favor with alternative audiences. Hailed on their arrival on the
scene in 1989 as the future of hip hop, De La Soul were quickly
perceived as the leaders of a contingent of New York-based
alternative movement who dubbed themselves The Native Tongues Posse.
This movement for a while looked as if it was going to eclipse
hardcore hip hop in terms of popularity.

NEW RELEASES:

1111 - I Want To Be A Janitor's Child CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17747
San Diego area underground emcee 1111 drops his second album I Want
To Be A Janitor's Child. Featuring guest appearances from fellow
local artists Mannyfesto and Moses One.

Baron Zen - Strange Woman's Room 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17706
Limited to 1,000 copies worldwide and each individually spray
painted, Stones Throw Records presents some more spaced-out funk and
throwback electro hip hop from Baron Zen. The elusive producer has
been releasing music with the label for about five years now and
still remains somewhat scarce as far as appearances and continuous
releases. Most recently he provided the third volume of Stones
Throw's original break-record series Rhythm Trax. "Strange Woman's
Room" features underground bizarro rapper Dave Dub on vocals and
features a true-to-tone remix from who else but James Pants and his
own throwback style. With "Talk To Me" on the flip plus another
appropriately remixed version by Peanut Butter Wolf. Plus you get the
instrumentals for each track.

Buraka Som Sistema - IC19 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17641
From Mad Decent comes Lisbon, Portugal's Buraka Som Sistema for the
club basher "IC19." This particular style originated in Angola in
Africa and took on many different transformations but is recognized
for its natural and original organic rhythms. Now a worldwide club
market has embraced the style over the last 25 years as it is ever
evolving and attributed at times for the success of for many popular
club music styles here at home including Bmore. Featuring three
remixes and very different takes including one by DJ Sega.

Busdriver - Jhelli Beam LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17409
Now on vinyl! Busdriver is back a healthy three years after
RoadKillOvercoat! It was easily one of my favorite albums of 2006,
but I do recall some fans calling it a little too weird even for
Busdriver! Of course, most of that kind of talk was isolated and the
album was well reviewed, and I am happy to say that Jhelli Beam is a
welcome return to his familiar breath-defying flows and humor.
Busdriver's not out to re-define underground hip hop, as reviewers on
the outside looking in would lead you to believe, no, Busdriver is
just doing what he does best, and that is expressing himself through
the music that just so happens to be hip hop and I wouldn't have it
any other way. He even pokes fun at the labels he is often given as
an "art-rapper" or "hipster rap", and that kind of awareness of how
ridiculous some of the praise he has received by people who would
otherwise never give the rest of hip hop a chance outside of his
bizarreness is a wonderful inside joke that the listener is in on.
Featuring production by Nobody, Daedelus and Omid with guest
appearances by Nocando and Myka 9!

The Clonius - Adroit Adventures 12" EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17412
Beat navigator Paul Movahedi, also known as The Clonius drops The
Adroit Adventures EP on Ubiquity Records. The Vienna born 23 year old
producer was inspired by 50's and 60's jazz but through his love for
music of all kinds around the world he is able to hone his love for
it into his hip hop. The instrumentals are very reminiscent of the
Detroit style we've witnessed from the likes of J-Dilla, Black Milk,
14KT and Dabrye, but also bridges that gap between electronica and
hip hop like Flying Lotus. Two instrumentals, a track featuring
Musinah (who is on fire right now coming off of a tour with Common)
and a remix by Vienna native and homie Dorian Concepts...who you
should also check out if you are into any of the aforementioned
producers.

Dead Prez & Green Lantern - Pulse of the People CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17576
Stic.man and M-1, the revolutionary duo that comprise dead prez,
combine forces with DJ Green Lantern for Pulse of The People to
deliver "their most politically inspiring record to date." Pre-orders
and early purchasers get bonus DJ Green Lantern download card
featuring 15 minute IMG mix and access to DJ Green Lantern's ringtone
store.

DJ Bojo - Moonroof Music CDR
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17732
Homegrown Blends DJ Bojo follows up his 2007 mix Grown Folks Music
with the all new Moonroof Music. Inspired by and dedicated to his
newly born son, this smooth mix compiles some of the DJ's favorite
memory making joints and slow jams both past and present and perfect
for a night of stargazing. Featuring tracks by DJ Presto, Freddie
Cruger, People Under the Stairs, Nas, Exile, Madlib, Dilla, DJ
Spinna, Flying Lotus, Jake One and more, with many of these featuring
female vocals. Guest scratching here and there by DJ Jo_iLL. So if
your pulling up to lover's lane with a great view of the city or
relaxing after the sun goes down and the partying for the night has
died down, open that Moonroof and recline the seats or lay a blanket
on the hood of the car and start naming constellations as the late
hours slip by with that special someone on this mellow mix.

DJ JS-1 - No Sellout 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17574
21 new songs produced by JS-1 with hip hop legends and veterans not
only featured but paired properly creating collaborations that have
been long overdue or never done before. For instance, having OC &
Pharoahe Monch on a song together again, or pairing KRS & Canibus, or
getting Ultramagnetic MC's (BOTH Kool Keith & Ced Gee on song with
Prince Po & Canibus!). The Queens Bridge posse cut, On The Map with
Craig G, Blaq Poet, Big Noyd, and other concept songs like EMC I Knew
A Girl and Original Gz with AG, Craig G, & Edo G are what keep the
people coming back for more. The combinations of both east coast &
west coast rappers from various eras of hiphop mixed with JS-1's
beats and scratch hooks is an undeniable treat for any hiphop
fanatic. There is also live guitar, horns and keyboards on several
tracks for real music lovers. DJ JS-1's 'NO SELLOUT' album is 21
tracks featuring over 40 rappers and is 79 minutes long! Includes
data format disc with MP3s of all album tracks in dirty, clean, inst.
& acapella versions.

Folerio - You're So Precious 7"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17707
Folerio is perhaps the strangest thing you will ever hear in relation
to Stones Throw Records. Not technically on Stones Throw, Peanut
Butter Wolf allegedly tried to sign him, but Folerio declined. This
new off-shoot label Good Time Records is perhaps the best fit, or
only fit, for it is in a world of its own...or at least Folerio is.
Folerio also allegedly turned down the use of this song in Sacha
Baron Cohen's new film Bruno. Folerio also allegedly recorded these
sporadic electro-beat weirdos in 1984. So, there's a lot we really
don't know about it, it could be a fabricated back-story and persona
or a totally legit unearthed recording that PB Wolf got his hands on
before anyone else. If it would have been considered New Wave in the
80's, I don't know what to call it today. Limited to only 500 copies
worldwide...word!

The Formula Project - Evolve CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17410
From the Switch 17 Music Group's one-sheet summary: "From the streets
of New York City to the bombastic sounds of Kingston Jamaica and on
to the artsy warmth of Venice California comes the fresh new sound of
The Formula Project. Derived from the mind and soul of the band's
creator and producer, Switch (also from Major Lazer) the band is
always pushing the limits. Switch, who writes all the music for the
band, has developed a sound that crosses all spectrums. One can hear
the chaotic genius of Public Enemy; the reggae flavor of Sly and
Robbie; as well as the trip hop electronica of Massive Attack. It is
in Switch's ability to layer one genre on top of another that leads
to the basis of his formula. No genre is out of reach when Switch
does his thing. The group's first full length release Evolve, the
main voice now showcases the amazing talents of lyricist Goldenchyl
a.k.a. Andre Fennell, born in Kingston Jamaica and currently living
in Long Island NY. Switch has always felt a connection to the island
sounds of reggae and Goldenchyl delivers just that. The combination
of producer's sound and the emcee's versatile vocal stylings make for
an explosive combination. Featuring a special guest appearance by the
legendary KRS-One.

Grand Puba - Retroactive CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17406
Hip-Hop legend and founding member of the seminal group Brand Nubian,
Grand Puba announces his signing with indie powerhouse Babygrande
Records for the release of his fourth solo album, Retroactive.
Grand Puba has been a crucial participant in the hip-hop movement
since its early days. Originally a member of the group Masters of
Ceremony, he became the lead emcee of the New Rochelle-based Brand
Nubian in 1989. Although their upbeat music and positive lyrics tied
them strongly to the Native Tongues movement (De La Soul, A Tribe
Called Quest etc.), Brand Nubian's politics and religion were always
at the forefront of their music, often making it not commercial
enough for the rap that ruled the airwaves during those times. As a
solo artist, Grand Puba has been extremely successful as well, as
many still consider both his Reel 2 Reel and P2000 albums to be
classics. In 1998, he reunited with Brand Nubian for Foundation, and
in 2004 for Fire In The Hole. Grand Puba once again returns to his
trademark style, intelligent lyrics, socio-political themes and a
smooth laid-back delivery. Featuring production from Large Professor,
Q-Tip, Grand Puba himself and more. Also with guest appearances by Q-
Tip, Large Professor, Lord Jamar, Tifini Davis, Sadat X and Kid Capri.

Jack Sample Professionals - Perskryptshyn 12" EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17743
Funk and hip hop instrumentals, sometimes featuring vocals by Kory
and a guest appearance by underground emcee Rek-Rap. Produced by Fly
Ty (of Ty and Kory fame) as he lays down drums, keys, effects, and
chords. For fans of the recently released Quazedelic.

Jaylib - Champion Sound (re-issue) 2LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=6116
Stones Throw presents the Deluxe Edition of the now classic
collaboration between Madlib and J Dilla. Back in 2003 Jay Dee was
still relatively unknown, even though he had been producing records
for artists such as Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and Pharcyde
since the early nineties. Madlib had built a reputation of his own,
creating albums with his crew Lootpack, not to mention his handfuls
of releases under numerous aliases. Together both producers went on
to create an unmistakable classic, proving not only that they could
make dope beats, but that they were worthwhile rappers as well. Years
later the songs on this release still resonate and speak to what hip
hop had been missing.

Jedi Mind Tricks - Greatest Features 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17482
Pretty self explanatory double disc release from Jedi Mind Tricks and
their greatest selection of featurings over the years. For fans of
the hardcore scene of course, but to those of you also who may have
never had the chance to track down all those Vinnie Paz guest
appearances on different albums outside of the usual affiliates like
the track with Percee P or Supernatural. Also featuring 7L &
Esoteric, Ill Bill, King Syze, Reef The Lost Cauze, Mr. Lif, Sabac
Red, Apathy, Outerspace, Randam Luck and much much more!

Major Lazer (Diplo) - Hold the Line 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17640
First single off of Mad Decent Radio's Diplo and Switch's dancehall
project Major Lazer. "Hold The Line" Features Santigold and Mr. Lexx
with the instrumental and accapella for those seeking inspiration for
their own incarnations of this hyper club killer.

Kristoff Krane - Mixxy #1 CDR/Mixxy #2 CDR WITH FREE STICKER
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17728
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17729
Recently the Minnesota artist wandered in our shop on tour with Fill
In The Breaks' founder and emcee Ecid and hooked us up with his 2008
album This Will Work For Now. Known also for his work and
collaborations with Eyedea for the freestyle project Face Candy and a
member of the Deep Puddle Dynamic-like group Saturday Morning
Soundtrack. I loved the album so much that I called up Kristoff Krane
after noticing on the liner notes of the CD that he had some previous
tour only releases and asked him to send some. Mixxy #1 and #2
compile exclusive freestyles, live recordings, and cuts that didn't
make it on the full length album...added bonuses to anyone who
enjoyed his solo album.

Pseudo Slang - We'll Keep Looking LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17523
On Fat Beats Records, a few years removed from their hit single
"Broke & Copasetic," Buffalo crew Pseudo Slang finally drop their
debut full-length release. Jazzy beats from producer Tone Atlas
recall the sample-laden glory days of the early nineties, with lead
rapper Emcee Sick adding a uniquely dense wordplay that makes We'll
Keep Looking one of the more promising first-entries by a hip hop
group in a minute. Guest appearances by Grap Luva and Vinia Mojica.
I'm calling it right now...but this is quite possibly going to be
the sleeper hit of the summer and will be talked about throughout
the rest of the year! Word. For fans of Sound Providers for
comparison.

Ras G - Beat Soup CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17693
Countless hours of cooking in the beat-kitchen at Spacebase 2031 has
led to 43 minutes of psychedelic beat-gumbo, punctuated by his
trademark air horns, and "Oh Ras!" shoutouts. This exclusive
continuous mix features tracks and blendings of like-minded artists
Flying Lotus, Nobody, some original works, I even heard some Dilla
and Portishead in there. Limited to 500 pressed CDs (not CDR) in full
color cardboard sleeve. Recording is clean but low, so the volume
does need to be turned up.

Serengeti and Polyphonic - Terradactyl CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17312
From Anticon's website: "Serengeti and Polyphonic's Terradactyl is an
album about place-losing place, mostly, struggling to find it again,
and succumbing to the fact that it's cold, and surprisingly lonely,
when you're dressed in the human condition. Serengeti, heretofore a
master of on-record character acting, appears here as his most
vulnerable self: someone wedged between a dream and a series of day-
jobs, between a failed marriage and raising new life, inside of a
large family with fractured ties, and split between two distinct
racial/economic paradigms. His cracked abstractions (this is no "poor-
me" man's emo diary) paint him as homeless, at times literally, while
weaving their meaning into the much larger loom of universal
displacement. And as on this duo's 2007 debut, Don't Give Up, worldly
beat-maestro Polyphonic is on hand to make beauty out of so much
madness." Very different, abstract, and fitting for an Anticon
release from a non-Anticon member, but perfect placement. It's deep,
strange and beautiful and at times can't possibly be considered hip
hop, but it is certainly musical art.

Soul Assassins (DJ Muggs) - Intermission CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17203
DJ Muggs is constantly in the lab; creating remixing and always
making things happens as one of the most respected DJs in hip hop.
He's also put in more than his share of work as a producer with a
resume that stretches from coast to coast. Muggs' distinct love of
west coast funk and heavy doses of hip hop have been responsible for
multiplatinum sales and chart topping hits with Cypress Hill, House
of Pain and many other artists. In between being a part of one of the
most successful hip hop groups to come out of the L.A. hip hop scene,
going on tour and discovering new talent, DJ Muggs has always found
time to make music with his Soul Assassins collective and affiliates
composed of artists, writers, musicians, emcees, etc. As one of the
founders and through his connections in the music business, it wasn't
hard to assemble a stellar line up for Intermission. Featuring RZA,
Sick Jacken, Alchemist, B-Real, Planet Asia, Evidence, M1 of Dead
Prez, Krondon of Strong Arm Steady, Self Scientific, La Coka Nostra,
Xzibit and more.

SoulStice - Beyond Borders CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17658
After the release of two critically acclaimed albums (2005's North By
Northwest and Dead Letter Perfect in 2007) Chicago emcee SoulStice
(of Wade Waters) teams up with Belgian beatmaker, Sbe, for an
international concept album he calls Beyond Borders, and is based on
his enlightening travels around the world. Many of the guest
appearances on the album feature artists from the UK, Germany,
Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Africa, and Canada and were handpicked
by SoulStice himself from the likes of GLC, Oddisee, Kev Brown,
Supastition, Haysoos, Wordsmith, Zap Mama, Eternia and more.

Tony Touch - Tony Touch Hip Hop #87/Hip Hop #88 CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17673
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17674
Two of the legendary mixtape DJ's latest releases in his best selling
series, Hip Hop #88 and #87 both feature current and classic tracks
to demonstrate similarities between hip hop greats and today's
counterparts. Featuring Method Man, Redman, KRS-One, Ghostface,
Raekwon, Jadakiss, Talib Kweli, Slum Village, Busta Rhymez, Lil
Wayne, Mobb Deep, Rick Ross, Clipse, Termanalogy and much much more!

U-God - Dopium CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=17483
As an original member of the Wu-Tang Clan, U-God sometimes struggled
in achieving the same amount of exposure for his solo career as his
fellow Wu-brethren. It wasn't until 1999 that he received his
official debut on Golden Arms Redemption...as he once called himself
Golden Arms from the classic kung-fu film before the inception of Wu-
Tang. Each member of the Wu is unique, and U-God's deep baritone
voice and flow are what separates him from the pack. Later he
experienced problems within the group, specifically with The RZA,
over not receiving enough attention for his albums. So in 2004 he
released an exclusive compilation with a so-called defecting attitude
against the Clan with Hillside Scramblers, which featured his own
team of people including Infinite Black, Lethafase, King Just and
more. This move helped pave the way for his 2005 album Mr. Xcitement,
but went relatively unnoticed by fans. After making up with The RZA,
the crew of course embarked on several successful world wide tours
and guest appearances and the most recent album 8 Diagrams. Ironic
that his first album was called Redemption, since it is Dopium that
will truly bring him back to the front lines. This is a truly
satisfying Wu-solo joint (not including the bonus remixes intended
for the club) that will have longtime fans nodding their heads, with
guest appearances from Ghostface, Cappadonna, Gza, Killah Priest,
Raekwon and undergrounders Mike Ladd and Slaine! Featuring on-point
production from Large Professor, 4th Pyramid, and perhaps the biggest
surprises from legendary old schooler DJ and producer Teddy Ted, who
seems to understand capturing the old-Wu sound more than those who've
attempted in the past.
