length studio follow up to Never Surrender, which previously ended
his Journey to the Sun trilogy. If one thing has always been certain
it's that Sunspot has always been very opinionated and outspoken
about the Mainstream. Disgusted with it all, here he attempts to show
that the mainstream won't ever get it right, and through some
storytelling-type tracks Sunspot is at times straight up mocking how

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - Old Money CD

Stones Throw releases The Mars Volta guitarist/producer/writer/
arranger's solo instrumental experiment Old Money. The addictive
melodies and passionate execution of each performance render Old
Money perhaps the most accessible of his non-Volta recordings, and

prolific artist has to offer. The album fits comfortably between the
guitarist's monumental work with The Mars Volta, and his prior rock-

version the previous week: Anticipated J-Dilla instrumental release
from younger brother Illa J's debut solo album Yancey Boys. Something
you've all been waiting for because let's face it, many fans and
critics agree, Illa J has a long way to go and big shoes to fill, as
the release itself was met with mixed or mediocre reactions. However,
the beats bring us back, and remind us yet again of the loss felt
after Dilla's passing. Though mostly unknown in origin or time of
production (at least to the public) the instros are timeless and hard
to place in any one year...that is the lasting power of Jay Dee. RIP.

Often we need reminders on what separates the underground from the
unsigned wannabee rappers and their mainstream counterparts and this
is one of those examples! Roughneck Jihad of Third Sight teams up
with DJ Ruthless and D-Styles for some raw, hardcore, abstract,
circus-style raps, rough beats and scratching. It's a bizarre ride
but you enjoy every twist, turn and loop-d-loop they take you
through. It's the type of underground hip hop that, again, reminds us
why even in the underground things are always going to be different;
but there are always people who think they have the right definitions
for what makes the underground what it is...and this is the type of
album that tells those people to GTFO! Word.

Diplo - Decent Work 4 Decent Pay CD

DJ Signify - Of Cities CD

Bully strikes back! The 7inch pre-cursor to this brand new album by
DJ Signify on Bully Records was released back in 2007! A lot of
people thought the label might have gone under or something with
almost no word of any new releases than Of Cities in quite some time
since Joe Beats' Diverse Recourse. Thank god we (or they, I mean) are
back in 2009! This is one hell of a start and fans won't be
disappointed...instrumental hip hop heads WON'T BE DISAPOINTED! This
is some dark and lonesome listening, headphones on, candles burning
dim, middle of winter type beats. Every year we are only blessed with
a few worthy entries in the category started by greats like DJ Shadow
and DJ Krush, and the perfectionist behavior of DJ Signify locked
away in some attic somewhere putting the finishing touches on this
one paid off. Brilliant. Featuring two guest appearances by Aesop
Rock, and co-production by Matt Kelly and Blockhead.

John Robinson & MF Doom - Who Is This Man? CD
