Detroit, Michigan area emcee Danta LaSalle first rocked a show
alongside Binary Starr in Ann Arbor with Invincible and the Athletic
Mic League. It's been a slow but steady climb over the past ten years
as he became the go-to opener when big acts rolled through town such
as legends like KRS-ONE, Afrika Bambaataa and Kool Herc, members of
the Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def, Def Jux, Brother Ali, Sage Francis,
Blackalicious and more! Finally taking the road himself across North
America and even overseas, selling enough mixtapes to fund his entire
trips and the production of his first album. After a recent tour stop
in San Diego Dante dropped by the shop and hooked us up with his 2008

Debut solo album from Hanif Jamiyl of the Connecticut based group
Maspyke along with DJ Roddy Rod and Tableek. As a member of a group
that has been faced with plenty of stunted starts since the late 90's
Hanif has had the good fortune of being able to write and record with
Doug E. Fresh, Q-Tip and Wordsworth along with performing alongside
Mos Def, Slick Rick,Talib Kweli, Planet Asia, Jurassic 5, Dilated
Peoples, Royce Da 5'9", Heltah Skeltah, Zion I, Unspoken Heard, EPMD,
J-Live and more! Kind of an ode to the female culture, the album is
smooth and at times R&B-like but Hanif insists fellas will understand
this one too. Featuring production by 88Keys, Belief, Roddy Rod and
more. Enhanced CD features allow you to view two videos music videos
from the album for "Wet Dream" and "Insatiable Rose."

The Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind 2LP

Now on vinyl! The Foreign Exchange began with Phonte and Nicolay
collaborating online and via IM - they actually completed their debut
album before actually having met each other face to face.
"Connected," was released in 2004 and is now considered nothing less
than a hip hop classic. "Leave It All Behind" finds The Foreign
Exchange much closer in geography (Nicolay has since become a
resident of Wilmington, NC), but [please note: this is from the
label's one-sheet] located much further from their hip-hop origins.
The duos' second full-length is a dark, multilayered affair that
features Phonte showcasing his abilities as an exceptional lead and
harmony vocalist, while Nicolay extends his musical palette to
include sprinklings of jazz, downtempo, house and more. The lush,
Darien Brockington-assisted "Take Off the Blues" picks up where
Connected's sleeper hit "Come Around" left off, while the complex
polyrhythm and dreamy synthesizers of "Sweeter Than You" are
described by Phonte as "swing jazz for the next century". Marc Mac
(of legendary UK production team 4hero), also contributes a string
arrangement to the duo's glorious cover of Stevie Wonder's oft-
forgotten 1991 gem, "If She Breaks Your Heart". In addition to
appearances from longtime FE affiliates Darien Brockington and
Yahzarah, the album also features guest shots from
producer/keyboardist Zo! and the fast rising star that is vocalist
Muhsinah. Vinyl is very limited!

This is a big week for Tres Records, along with this Johnson &
Johnson single from Blu & Mainframe we've also got the double vinyl
release of Powders and Oils and New Jack Hustle's Sound Check along
with two new singles from Shawn Jackson and Y Society, respectively.
But first is the funky and soulful "Mama Told Me" which also comes
with instrumental along with two exclusive new tracks "Hold On John"

on beats still glowing from the critically acclaimed Electric Laser.

impeccable timing helped make this duo one of the most talked about

plus it's instrumental along with the "Peace I'm Out The Door" instro
