we all know MF Doom has been up to some weird tactics. i was thinking about this imposter ish the other day and an idea came to head. since doom is such a comic book head, and loves characters, im thinking he's purposely killing the MF Doom name. he keeps sending the imposters out there and its plain and simple these dudes are doing this on purpose. so if he tarnishes the name enough-it will eventually die out, and he'll have to come back as another character. i dont know if that made sense but that what i was thinking on that whole MF Doom non-sense. i think the MF Doom will come to an end and he'll come back as some other character. i saw some crazy footage from RTB-Cali08 and people just started throwing ish on stage and he walked off. it's clear it's not doom and it's clear they are doing it intentionally.

Maybe....just maybe he'll come out on stage just as another Doompostor stunt is going on...and he'll take off his mask...maybe he's come to terms with his pain and the memories of Subroc. He probably also feels that people recognize MF Doom and the whole mask as more of his gimmick, his thing, rather than the real reason for donning the mask in the first place...maybe I'm just a geek but a lot of people don't even get the correlation to Dr. Doom.

But if this is some massive effort to kill the character off in the mind of the people as a fake a phony and impostor...thats pretty drastic...on a major scale...and it could take a few more years before people completely abandon the character. Its time he just comes out and reveals the reasons for deceptions...real or not...he needs to spin something out of it. Career suicide or publicity stunt? Who knows what he's really got going on...but i believe your thinking along the right lines, Joe.

i think hes an idiot. and im not gonna buy any of his stuff anymore. not gonna support fake shit. i was at one of the shows wit the imposter dude. i was ripped off lied to. u sell tickets saying ur gonna perform, then u dont but u take evryones money n e wayz, thats scandelous. I dont really respect pplz that rip me off ya know. if its some kinda stunt, its a stupid one. he just clearly doesnt care about his fans, or hip hop. I also think pplz that r associated with him should think twice cause its gonna reflect on you. It'd be a shame to see pplz like madlib get hurt by this, but if hes down with it and is a part of this shit, then thats no good. This is music, not bout makin moey. have some morals and some standards plz. how far will pplz go to make a buck? I really hope Stonesthrow isnt a part of this.

Oh ya and for Doom to be dissin MIC is just crap too. I wonder if Doom can go bak to where hes from and be respected, i doubt it. if u cant go home w/o trouble thats sad.

Somones gonna kik his ass im sure.
you should have seen the crowd at the show i went too, if they didnt have guards to protect him, hed be gettin a beat down and these r pplz that paid to see his show, his 'fans'.

hes got a new album droppin soon, we will see what happens. i hope it fails miserably, but it prolly wont. >.<

I agree...pplz needz to get rlz. :D But seriously I do agree with what you're saying.

Exactly! I'm not even sure half of his fans would be able to tell the difference...and some people out there are just nuts, and even if they did find out it was really him they'd still start some shit...I wouldn't got that far myself but there are people out there that are really butt-hurt about this...underground famous or superstar status...at some point your gonna be a target for some of the wackos out there. This entire fiasco has gotten to infuriating levels with some people...it was not a good move and the silence is making it worse.

at the next doom show i am going to jump up on stage and knock his ass to the ground then spit on his stupid mask, then shit on him once i ripped the mask off to make sure its his lame ass. i am one crazy "wacko" so watch out.

will you video tape me WesSezSo? you know you want to jump in for the fun of it.

I dunno man. I just did a little reading up on this cat, and if he is sending fakes out there to do shows for him it really is quite genius. It's on some Andy Kaufman type shit. It goes along with his whole shit. The Doom in the comics has clone robots and shit to. He's been saying he's a villain for years, so it's supposed to piss you off. Kinda like a heel in wrestling that you love to hate.

If he is trying to kill off MF DOOM? to come back as some new shit, or just doing this as an other part of his persona, or anything along those lines he's gonna go down in history as legendary ARTIST if he pulls it off, not just on a Hip Hop level. If this is really all a part of his plan, (which I assume it must be) this is some creative shit on a whole other level. Not everybody is gonna understand it, and even some of his true fans will never forgive him for what he did, but that's kinda what the beauty of it is. If he pulls this off right, our kids will be reading about this cat in art history books and shit. For real, this is the type of shit true legends are made of. This dudes creativity reaches beyond the music.

Being an artist myself and having studied art history and modern art, I can appreciate that kind of shit. It’s like looking at a Picasso, Jackson Pollack or Marcel Dechamp. Not everybody can see/understand the beauty in it, but it’s a master piece none the less. It don’t matter what we think of him right now, what matters is what his legacy will be in the future and how he goes down in history.

Jay Dub

my whole question and problem is-Doom did some imposter shows at RockTheBells-wouldnt some of the other acts know?? are they in on it too??
especially underground-the live show is so important-and who would want to ruin their name like that??
but i really think Doom is trying to make some kinda of point-by trying to exploit the mainstream. its known that lots of rap acts lipsync and send doubles out their. but Doom is just straight crazy for doing this. what if he drops the imposter disc and it has no music on it-LOL.
and to the people who were punk'd by Doom-dont go to any more shows or buy the music if it's such a problem. if havent fell for it yet-plus Doom dropped a Box Set for $130.00. this guy is a genius(not really but on some marketing ish)

Check it out though Joe, who is the last person who went down in history with out pissing people off and just tryed to make everybody happy? Cuz I can't think of any. To really make a mark, you have to take risks and think out side of the box.

I got a feeling the people who paid to see MF DOOM and saw an imposter will look back and be glad they where a part of it 10 years from now.

Like I said, he's a villain and this shit is supposed to make you mad the way I see it. Just like the heel (bad guy) in wrestling that you love to hate. He swore revenge on the industry right? Looks like he got it to me.

This shit has to be part of a bigger plan. I highly doubt he's just being lazy. If anything, he’s put a lot of thought into this shit.

Vision gave the brief history of why he wears the mask. to hide the pain over the death of his brother subroc. Dr. Doom is horribly scarred (mental and emotionally too), he is a genius and a gazillionaire who turned mad scientist and the Fantastic Four became his lifelong enemies...he has these elaborate plans to conquer the world...etc. etc. etc....good reading if you just google Dr. Doom aka Victor Von Doom....or as MF Doom put it...Viktor Vaughn.

Marvel did order a cease and desist over the unauthorized use of the imagery and likeness of their super villain of the comics...also Marvel was in the shitter in the late 90's before they started hitting it big by shopping their properties to major movie studios. The mask you see used now...resembles and basically is almost the exact same mask from the Gladiator film.

I think he has his fair share of near-classic albums under his belt, so I can't agree that he's a "garbage artist" - save that for every rapper with "Lil" in front of it - he's made some dope original material. That said, I think Doom will fall off in the next 5 years....he seems to only get worse artistically judging by his guest appearances in the past couple years. And I agree that he is a colossal prick to his fans. I'll be illegally downloading his next LP.

You think "Doomposter" will have a big impact on the game? LOL. I highly doubt that. You overrate the man at lengths. His days of making groundbreaking records are gone. He can join the ranks with the other veterans making music for their niche fan bases.

agreed again. alan is on point.

yes there are plenty of good acts so why would i or anyone else waste their time taking a chance to go see doom when there's a chance its some phony fuck wearing the mask. his days days ended with the doomposter shit. that album is no longer slated as his next release as well.... "its called born into this"..... "fanboy" - had to use that one, so i qouted it.

doomposter had a big impact?!!?!?!?! look at the footage on urtube man..... the only impact i could see is fans being pissed and throwing shit at the stage, for starters, like you said, "there are plenty of good acts" and MF doom isn't one from what i can tell.

and for one example of many, let's take the bill clinton and monica story.....that shit will always be talked about throughout our time, but did it have a "big impact"....i think not, so referencing all the internet talk (good or bad) as having a "big impact" on hip hop is a far fetch statement. i would consider the only so called "big impact" being he is a dumbass for doing what he did and now orther artist know not to make the same mistake. he would have got more hype if he just faked his death and came back.... but dupping fans that go to your shows is another story. people on the avg work hard for their dollar..... so why not be pissed if someone lies to you and keeps your buck while at it.

i wont be buying a MF Doom album at all in the near future. and i am glad i haven't paid for one yet, he doesn't deserve my dollar.... but somehow i am not missing out and ended up with all his albums, so for me the joke is on him. thanks for the free music doom. i guess you won't be seeing any of my hard earned cash on your next "real" tour cause i won't be there.... i'll be spending my dough on all the "other good acts" that i know care about their fans and enjoy playing shows for them.

He's a prick to his fans? I've been a pretty big fan for 15+ years, and I'm unable to get too worked up about this. I know another site or two with some serious Doom fans, and it's not even really a topic of discussion. Because given the man's history, if all you care about is how this shit affects you you're frontin. Don't recall anybody on here saying anything about being curious/concerned about dude's health and well-being, physical and/or mental. But I guess why deal with the likelier scenarios when you can concoct some ridiculously backwards bullshit theories that would get laughed out of the room at a WWE writers meeting.

He flaked on the show to make up for the bullshit shows in SF back on 9/18/07. So it's been a year since you should EXPECT bullshit. Anybody who got punked since then got what they asked for. Well of course if there is a forum full of feverish Doom followers they're not gonna bring up anything but positives. What is this, a competition of who can swing from his nuts the furthest? As EPMD would say - "get off the bandwagon". It's ok to be a fan and still be objective. Genius marketing? Please. That sounds like some backwards azz thinking right there. The proof is in the pudding. We'll see when this so-called genius "Doomposter" album drops if it's some revolutionary groundbreaking masterpiece. I highly doubt any rapper could dig himself out of a hole that deep. As far as I heard, those findings of his poor health are just rumors. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't actively seek mass amounts of trivial information of Doom. Moreover, I really could care less. How do you know people weren't complaining to the venues of promotion companies that put on this phony BS? You know nothing's getting refunded, which would obviously result in a backlash of Doom's credibility. Also, Doom really missed the bus timing-wise if this album was supposed to correlate with this genius marketing concept. But if you really feel the fans got what they deserved....well, I guess you're "doomed" to stay on the bandwagon for good.

Jay Dub, I've read all your posts here, and I truly don't understand what you think he's going to accomplish with all this. So pissing people off is going to open everyone's eyes to this genius comic book emulating scheme? He's not a real villain man. It's all just a marketing gimmick. Maybe he wears the mask in memory of Sub Roc, but do you seriously think he's emulating Dr. Doom? He's not mainstream, so he's catering to his niche fan base. The way he handled business with MIC is nearly enough for me to cut him down a notch without all the imposter BS. And when is all the genius going to be viewed by the general public, or by his fans? "Doomposter"? Is Doom gonna blow my mind with some mind-numbing perspective changing material? As I said earlier, I don't think any rapper would be able to do this. It's like Nas coming out with his album as a self-titled release as opposed to "Ni**er" - no rapper can live up to the context of that word no matter how revolutionary the lyrics may be. So I ask you, how will Doom be recognized as a "genius" after this fiasco?

It more about his motives for doing this, the thought he put into it and the point is is trying to make that make's it so genius, (Which are not known yet) not necessarily the act it's self.

Kinda like an impressionistic painting or any kind of abstract art (and some modern art). It's not always the piece of art it's self that makes it so amazing, it's the though behind it and the process of producing it.

For instance, can you tell me what is so genius about this piece?
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y74/JayDub/Marcel20Duchamp20fountain.jpg

It's Marcel Duchamp. All he did is write hiss name on a urinal and put it in an art museum, yet this piece is in every art history book there is today and he sparked a whole new way of looking at things. It's more about his philosophy then the piece it's self. People got pissed off about it and many of his piers viewed it as a slap in the face, but none the less he went down in history as a creative genius.

Or look at Andy Warhol for instance. He was not some amazing artist as far as painting/drawing/ect skill goes, it was just the way he looked at things and his perspective on the world that made his work so amazing.

So if these stunts by MF DOOM where intended all along and he is trying to make some kind of point by doing all of this, MF DOOM will in fact go down in history as a creative genius. This is some creative shit on a whole other level. Not everybody is gonna understand it.

Well, that's a hell of a theory Jay Dub.

I majored in graphic design, so I'm plenty familiar with art history...I see your point. I obviously don't know how it will be perceived...I can only speculate. I just don't see Doom being able to flip perspectives so drastically. Perhaps he's more brilliant than I give him credit for. I'm not seeing it though. I've always liked Doom's music. I own all his records. He did nothing more than make enjoyable hip-hop for me though. It's hard for me to put him up on that high of a pedestal. Even still, this doesn't explain his ill business tactics with MIC.

LOL, well just for the record I'm just playing devils advocate at this point, but I do happen to agree with a lot of the points I made...

Not sure how you managed to basically agree with everything I was trying to say and argue with me at the same time, but you did. Well done.

This board fucking blows.

:bowrofl:

Obviously I thought you were serious....lol. I don't know you well, and I didn't read every comment. But initially it sounded as if you were arguing a point, and not being facetious.

Well played sir!

If I were to say anything it'd be something like this^

Fucking hip hop special ed right here...

He's a prick to his fans? I've been a pretty big fan for 15+ years, and I'm unable to get too worked up about this. I know another site or two with some serious Doom fans, and it's not even really a topic of discussion. These supposed big fans crying like babies and jumping off the bandwagon... well maybe you just weren't that big a fan in the first place.

Don't hear anybody crying about the venues or promotions who let this shit go down and didn't offer refunds...
But I haven't because of this^

Under no circumstances is it okay for an artist to defraud their audience by using impostors for their live performances. And that's exactly what it is- FRAUD!

I don't care what the reasoning is, it's not ok.

Yes, Doom's gay for the imposter shit, but I'm still probably gonna listen to his music. Whatever he does, I'll still check his shit out.. This thread isn't going anywhere.
