FEATURED ITEM OF THE WEEK:

The Grouch - Show You The World 12" EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16234
A while back, we were told that the only thing that might possibly
appear on vinyl from the Grouch off of his new album Show You The
World, was the addition of perhaps only a single with a remix. This
much is still true by the way, as the "Artsy" 12 inch is on its way.
But that was before German label Hip Hop Vinyl got their hands on
it! Collecting ten tracks off of the album, the Show You The World
EP is as close as it's going to come to owning this brand new
addition to Grouch's discography on vinyl! Still one of our top sellers here
at Access and a staff favorite for one of the best albums of the
year, it is limited to only 500 copies world wide! It's an import
and may be a little pricey, but Hip Hop Vinyl (in Germany) is
responsible for blessing us with The Nonce and Bored Stiff on vinyl
when no other label would...so keep that in mind.

NEW RELEASES:

Alias - Resurgam CD/LP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=15920
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=15921
After a few collaborations, a "best of" collection, and continuing to
contribute work to artists on his respective Anticon label, Alias
returns with his first solo instrumental album in five years! Upon
his journey back home to Portland, Maine from Oakland, the former
emcee turned strictly producer found fresh air and a fresh start as
he entered the creation of Resurgam with an open mind, combining the
best of what got him to this point with his music, along with some
of the newer experimentation he's delved into over the last few
years. From the get-go, the album instantly has your foot tapping
and head nodding to beats familiar to us from the Muted era. Midway
we're met with the meditative melodic-ness of groups like Boards of
Canada. And while I heard rumors there was actually going to be a
track in which Alias laid down some lyrics, like his rare turn on
only one track off of Brookland/Oaklyn with Tarsier, I was once
again left feeling only slightly empty and yet perfectly happy, as
the album speaks for itself just fine in the absence of his own
words. Slightly more electronic at times than it is hip hop, but the
marriage of both has never been executed with such ease and comfort,
making this an enjoyable listen even to the haters or Anticon
deserters. I would say "welcome back..." but I don't think Alias
ever left. Featuring Why? and One AM Radio.

Arabian Prince - Innovative Life: 1984-89 2LP WITH FREE 7" RECORD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16017
Now on vinyl from Stones Throw Records and not a week too late! This
anthology serves as the definitive document of Arabian Prince's
groundbreaking electro work. A pioneering and innovative West Coast
hip-hop DJ/Producer, Arabian Prince was at the forefront of the
electro-rap scene alongside legends such as Egyptian Lover and the
World Class Wreckin' Cru. Under the pseudonym Professor X he was one
of the founding members of N.W.A., and it was the gangsta rap
phenomenon he helped to create which swept aside the electro he
truly loved. Recorded between 1984 and 1989, the hard, yet stripped-
back, style possesses a playfulness and experimentation that still
sounds fresh today.

Aroe & The Soundmakers - The Wreckshop CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16181
Insanely dope UK released mixtape by Aroe & The Soundmakers released
and presented by Graphotism Magazine and Sleeping Giants and guest
hosted by LA Kidd and DJ Too Tuff of the Tuff Crew! The Wreckshop:
Philly Golden Era volume 1 compiles some of the best oldschool,
remixes, rare and unreleased joints to emerge from the City of
Brotherly Love, or rather, a hip hop epicenter blowing up in the
late 80's and taking then unknowns and turning them into stars.
Featuring revitalized tracks by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince,
The Plush Brothers, Schoolly D, Three Times Dope and much much more!

Breakestra - Low Down Stank 12"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16142
All new single out on Stones Throw sister label Now Again Records as
the band prepares the release of their brand new album! Funky and
break-y, Music Man Miles and Mix Master Wolf have us convinced this
could have been recorded live and unearthed from the 70's...that's
how authentic they make it sound! Raspy vocals, drums, horns, organs
and bass...it's all here! A nine minute track, an exclusive b-side
and the "Low Down Stank" instrumental! Heat!

DITC - Rare Breaks: Stack One CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16112
I don't know who it is exactly that is grinding the gears behind the
recent resurrection of DITC related releases lately but more power
to 'em! This collection of untitled breaks and instrumentals are
just part of what Show did to help make the Diggin' In The Crates
Crew become one of the most memorable (and slept on) collectives to
emerge out of the coveted Golden Era of Hip Hop. Dusty grooves, rare
funk, jazz and soul straight from the vaults, the mere blueprints of
what made some of your favorite tracks and classic DITC joints! For
collectors and enthusiasts alike...this one's a real wonder.

DJ 2tall - Shifting Sides CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16227
Re-release of UK DJ 2tall's Shifting Sides, an instrumental hip hop
and electronic album from 2004, previously only available in Europe
on his Needlework label. For those just discovering the highly
talented turntablist, producer and instrumentalist, you'll want to
pick this one up! Downtempo and worthy of multiple listens, 2tall
also incorporates live instrumentation, as he is classically trained
on the Cello and Bass along with being an incredible scratch DJ.

2tall + Dudley + Georgia - Beautiful Mindz CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=13750
Finally available again after a manufacturing defect and factory
recall pulled this off the shelves last year: the Beautiful Mindz
album is back! Producer/DJ 2tall has joined up with Stones Throw's
Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow to craft an album full of
intelligent songwriting, moving vocals and soulfully eclectic
production. Over the course of the 17 track album, Georgia and
Dudley convey their message loud and clear while ducking from
preachy context or boastful quips, while 2tall skillfully provides
an ample backdrop for their musical ideas. A welcome addition to
yet another overseas collaborative effort.

The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale CD EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16197
You asked for it...we got it! There's a generation of people out
there that know most internet sensations in music are first
available on viral videos or digital downloads, others stop by our
shop and ask just about everyday "When are you getting the Cool
Kids?" There is something that Detroit/Chicago duo Mikey Rocks and
Chuck Inglish have done, that has managed to tap into the collective
minds of new age rap fans and hip hop heads waiting for something
different and relatable to today's sounds. Buzz and word of mouth
fueled their popularity, hell, even I added "Black Mags" on my
myspace profile page as my song choice for like two months after I
heard it on that infamous Rhapsody commercial! The truth is...
they're onto something...with comparisons to N.E.R.D. in the
mainstream or The Pharcyde's playfulness on Bizarre Ride in
underground circles. It's the notion that their success might ring
in a new kind of 20th Century hip hop fan that has people excited
for what they'll do next, with their stripped down beats, throw back
late 80's electro slump-hop and American grime (a contrast to the UK
counterpart). A sound that appeals to both sides of the genre we so
cherish and at the same time hate to see slip from our grasp,
whatever it is, it's working...and hopefully through them, the
sheeple will find us waiting. Word!

The Game - LAX CD/(bonus edition) 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=15859
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16195
The Game returns with his third and supposedly last CD, LAX. Keisha
Cole is featured on the lead off track 'Game's Pain.' Other guests
include Ice Cube, Raekwon, Ludacris, Bilal and Raheem DeVaughn,
appearing on "State of Emergency," "Bulletproof Diaries," "Cali
Sunshine" and "Touchdown," respectively. Cool & Dre, Irv Gotti,
Nottz, J.R. Rotem, Scott Storch, DJ Toomp, Hi-Tek and Kanye West
lend their production efforts to the album. Limited bonus edition
comes with alternate artwork and a bonus cd with 4 extra tracks.

Kool G Rap - Live and Let Die 2xCD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16111
Before a time when future superstars like Jay-Z and the late
Notorious B.I.G. idolized Hollywood crime sagas like the Godfather,
Scarface and Goodfellas through their music, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo
set out to explore a new genre in hip hop that came off sorely
misunderstood, and poorly misconceived by the mainstream media as
"too violent" or over-glorifying "gangsta rap." Storytelling and
concept albums can always be a tough approach in hip hop, as most of
the narrative is delivered in the first person, thereby confusing
casual listeners or those not fully aware of the disclaimer and
underlying themes about the consequences of the underworld criminal
lifestyle. It's always made great TV and a movies, and arguably
hip hop is one of the only genres that also makes this work in music
and turned the Crime Drama genre into such a huge hit in the 90's no
matter how many awards a film garnered at the time. I'll admit it
wasn't until Wu-Tang or Nas that I discovered and began to pick up
on quotes and lines from movies like Scarface, that made me want to
go watch the film itself. Live and Let Die is one of the first of
its kind and an all around hip hop opera. Often replacing the
stereotypical mafioso characters and story lines with the real life
dangers and equivalence of the inner city streets, keeping this
album relevant and revolutionary for its time in regards to hip hop
and creativity in the then shunned genre in its infancy. Classic!

RH Bless - Power.Passion.Love CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16258
Brooklyn born, Rasheen "R.H. Bless" Hill, made his first entrance
onto the underground hip hop scene in 1998 as both an avid fan of
the culture and an aspiring emcee. Power, passion and love is what
the artist brings to his music, it's not too thug or flashy, but
more like street survival and having a valuable knowledge of it all.
Reminds me of early DMX and Ruff Ryders stuff circa late 90's, back
when it was actually okay to be a fan of it.

Sabotawj - Tomorrow Today CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16257
San Diego's Sabotawj of Rhymeside Records drops his follow up solo
album to Key 2 Da City and his collaboration last year on Town
Bizness with Tomorrow Today. Street wise concepts from a rapper
who's been involved in the Daygo scene since the late 90's with a
Cali bounce and a gangsta lean.

Sadat X - The Okeedoke 7"
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=15724
After a brief stint at Rikers Island (New York City's largest and
most notorious jail) for gun possession among other more minor
offenses, Sadat X is back on the scene and picking up right where he
left off after 2006's Black October. "The Okeedoke" collects two of
the best tracks I've heard from the legendary Brand Nubian emcee in
years and quite frankly just goes to show that the veterans are
still doing it ten times better than some of the newer cats that pop
up on the scene every five minutes. Respect given where respect is
due; do not sleep, because the Wild Cowboy is back!

Supastition - Leave of Absence CD EP
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16024
Featuring production from Illmind, Marco Polo, and Khrysis to name a
few, Supastition drops the limited edition CD release of his Leave
of Absence EP, previously only available as a download. Following up
the acclaim of his well received 2006 full length Chain Letters, the
North Carolina emcee brings an arsenal of battle rhymes and gritty
tales without all the dark overblown stuff and smart, intellectual
conscious lyrics as he spits from the heart. Also featuring guest
appearances from Finale, Torae and more! Short but sweet and heat
all the way!

Ultimate Breaks & Beats - Instrumentals Vol. 1 CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16114
From Traffic Ent., funky re-creations of the classic beats and
breaks from the legendary series that started it all with El Michels
of Truth and Soul at the reins, reinvigorating these heavily sampled
staples into full length funky and soulful grooves. Newly revised
instrumental versions of JB's "Funky President", Rufus Thomas's "Do
The Funky Penguin", Bobby Byrd's "I Know You Got Soul", Babe Ruth's
"The Mexican", "It's A New Day" by Skull Snaps, "Synthetic
Substitution" by Melvin Bliss, "Cramp Your Style" by All The People,
"Think (About It)" by Lyn Collins and more.

Various Artists - Jump Back: ...James Brown CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16116
Simply put, this is an amazing collection of rare and obscure James
Brown covers, acting more like a tribute than just another half-
assed "best of" collection or mix! The Godfather of Soul touched and
inspired people around the world and to hear groups like The Latin
interpretations goes to show that his music is universal.

Envelope - Shark Bolt CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16228
Columbus, Ohio rapper Envelope offers up his second full length solo
album with Blueprint on the production side of things! The blue
collar, everyday every-man style of raps and autobiographical
storytelling work well with Blueprint's jazzy, soulful production,
as Envelope also displays kind of alazy laid back approach and
easily manages to pick up the pace on heavier tracks. For fans of
TOPR or Hop & Pop!

Kayo - One Hundred Percent Hustle CD
http://www.accesshiphop.com/store/?itemid=16263
On his own On Fyre Ent. record label, South East San Diego rapper
Kayo follows up his Konfessions of a Kriminal EP with the all new
full length One Hundred Percent Hustle. Some of that 'ol bump it in
the trunk slump ish! Gangsta!
