any cali heads ever catch any of the last good shows from suchs bands as:
Bad Religion, NOFX, AFI, Bouncing Souls, Goldfinger, Rancid??
anybody ever catch any of the older Vans Warped Tours??
just wondering i know some of these dudes ran around the same time as some underground Hip Hop
much of this music was dead after 2001.

i was all over that scene... i hit up the warp tour in 98 thru 2000 then it was all down hill from there. i used to intern at kung fu records back in the day so i went to mad shows with mad hook up. kicked it on stage in the back a lot of the time. saw nofx serect show (one of many times back then - but this was the most memorable since i knew they were playing but hardly anyone else did) at the corona showcase theatre. also took photo shop in high school 35mm days.... so i went to a lot a tons of shows cuz that was my favorite thing to shoot. was also in the hardcore since and thats how i got to know the guys that eventually became avenged sevenfold. in jr high my best friend's older brother started up focused...which was one of the first bands on tooth and nail records.... so i got into the small venue scene around 6th grade seeing a lot of hard core and punk bands. since you mention AFI, here is a pick i took of them in 1997(?) opening for strife at the showcase theatre. i believe they were either still in high school or just graduated and before the singer went goth or even before they got big. no joke its them.... check out how the singer used to look before he grew out his hair and went goth-like.
i always fade away and think back to the good old days of being young and doing that stuff. tight times for sure!

... i just noticed you also mentioned bouncing souls...that was the shit back then. i also went to purdue for a minute and the song "here we go" is about breaking down in that town of west lafayette. lame town compared to cali.... and again dont know if it true but while in that small town i meet some punk hippies (as close as it comes to punk there) at a local record store and they claimed that song talks about running into these guys (bouncing souls meeting these punkers) when their van broke down. like i said it could have been made up... but to give them the doubt (1) it was shortly after that album dropped,(2) they were no other punks in that town... and these guys were so punked out the would routinely hit the cow fields and look for shrooms. back then i dyed my hair all different bright colors like blue etc.... and got so much shit living in that town from all the corn-feed farmer kids growing up. people would stare at me and ask why you do that...f them thou. this was 1996-1997 right around when bright hair dye first came out and it was kinda hard to find and wouldn't last long in your hair. shortly after this hair style hit the main stream with bands like greenday dying there hair these colors and playing woodstock/ mtv... then it become the "wanna be cool guy" trend.

Black Sails is one of my favorite albums ever. Classic. I came up on all that old punk shit, I used to listen to all them. Kind of grew out of it, I guess. I still listen to it sometimes but nowadays I mostly listen to hip hop and indie rock shit.

what about the (nutty) Warren (i believe that was his name) in the vandals, that guy was f-ing crazy. he would climp around the stage yank his shorts up his ass...dude was crazy. ... punk scene back then had a lot of groupie females:love::love::love:

joe a smart man...dude is also a lawyer, runs a label, and rocks in the vandels. back in the time-era.... the vandals studio drummer (they usually toured with a different drummer thou) played on a lot of albums. i believe he was the drummer on the first perfect circle album (singer of tool) and eventually become the guns' n roses drummer on some re-union tour if i am not mistaken. he also played drums on the song "i'm a bitch" some mainstream female singer. dude would always be in the studio working on someone's albums. back then it seemed the punk scene had the drummers. f-ing fast.

i grew out of it too. this is kinda my opinion of that scene. again this is just an opinion... anyway i felt the punk/hardcore scene was great through the 90's but once it hit 2001-2002 eveything started sounding the same. it was like everything has been thought of and nothing sounded new... so i kinda fell out of the scene...then for a split second got into a few underground industrial bands like 16 volt then got ahold of the underground hip hop scene, which i felt was the most progressive in sound and you're are always hearing something new. whether its that osasis jayz mix....mr. dibbs scratching pennywise, avenged sevenfold, and hatebreed (live)... you can pretty much hear anything in hip hop, plus originality. after getting into the scene i grew more respect for oldies and classic rock too due to samples i would here. so in a way i think maybe we were all searching for "good music" and the punk scene had it in the 90's and i would say the underground hip-hop scene has it now.
when i think about it i am a lover of good music no matter what type. and i'm sure most of you are since your also here repping the scene.

thats whats up, it's good to know, some of the true underground hip hop headz use to bump that raw punk ish..
i want to recycle and make beats with all that music, it's just hard, cut of the fast timing and drums.

ive always thought about that but agree it would be pretty hard with the timing of things.... (in my opinion) so far Mr. dibbs has came the closes to these ideas with his hardcore turntablism volumes and live sets. i am sure you already know this though...

New AFI song. http://www.zshare.net/audio/134712096448e3cd/

I actually really like it. Fast, heavy, awesome hook. I hope they can redeem themselves after their last 2 albums were fucking trainwrecks.
