Hey Opio! welcome to the Hiero Hoopla. We had a copious amount of questions for Del when he stopped by to answer questions, so hopefully we'll get more of the same love for you.
Alright, I'll start the questioning:
1. How does your Vulture's Wisdom Volume 1 album compare with Triangulation Station?
2. How do you feel about the new Prince Paul produced Soul's album?
3. Will you be performing songs from Vulture's Wisdom in your upcoming tour?
Thanks. I'm hoping to check your upcoming tour this summer. I haven't seen you or any of the Hieroglyphics live yet.

1) Will there be any guest features on Vultures Wisdom Vol.1 and if so who?
2) I believe it has been mentioned that Vultures Wisdom Vol.1 & 2 are already finished. How many volumes do you envision yourself making?
3) Will there be any guest features on the upcoming Hiero/Souls albums?
4) Will the upcoming Hiero album utilize in house production or will others be contributing?
5) I’m curious how Hiero Jeans will primarily be made available to consumers. Will it mainly be made available via internet, or will they be made available in stores and if so what type of stores?
Definitely looking forward to your upcoming show in SD. Peace.

Hey guys- Opio is getting his Hoopla ID activated right now, but he sent me these responses to your questions:
Wassup everybody thanks for the questions I'll try to answer as many as I can…
-How does your Vulture's Wisdom Volume 1 album compare with Triangulation Station?
Triangulation Station was an album of diverse styles. It had a little bit of everything. The Vultures Wisdom is much more focused and I feel that I've advanced lyrically. Triangulation Station was an album with universal appeal, one that people could listen to even if they're
not super into hip-hop. On the Vulture's Wisdom I felt as though the era of emcees that say they are not "rappers", and hide behind tales of intrigue, must come to an end. If you suck at rappin, just admit it, don't try to be a gangster and punk me into thinking you're any good. This record is for the real heads. I know we're out there. We just need to unite. Fuck wit me…
-How long did it take to make 'triangulation station' and in general any new project you do?
Triangulation Station took almost two yrs to complete. It was my first solo effort so I really wanted it to turn out correct. I was super nit picky and I probably could have got it done quicker if I wasn't such a stickler. I worked closely with Matt Kelley on that album. He's the engineer that's been working with me since 93' til. He also worked with me on The Vultures Wisdom. He makes life easy when I'm in the studio and we have a good chemistry, so we work fast. That record was done in like 6months. And Vol 2 was done even quicker because we were already in work mode. We had a nice flow going and it carried over to the next project. In general it takes about a year to complete an album and have it in the stores. That's not just the recording process that includes mixing, mastering, artwork, etc.
-What's the general theme behind vultures wisdom?
The Architect and I sat back and watched people pick at this thing we call hip-hop until there seemed to be nothing of any value left. After everybody gorged themselves and walked away we swooped in with the vultures wisdom. These fake ass corporate entities cant eat anymore. It's our time… We embody the energy that people are trying so desperately to re capture or re connect with. We never fell prey to all the trappings of materialism. Our music stayed true to the art form and this album is a tribute to that.
-Do u think with all the vol's coming out that u need to make up lost solo time.
I love working with souls and hiero. Nothing is better than the feeling I get when I'm creating in that group environment and we're pushing and challenging each other. I have a lot to give as an artist, but I don't feel like I've lost time. There are countless ideas I need to get out to the world, fortunately rt now I'm in a good creative space, and I have a lot of new material comin out.
-What are some of your all time favorite Hiero or Souls tracks? (or solo)
I'll try to name some shit that a little under the radar
Souls No Mans Land
94' Via Satellite
Dirty D's Theme
Souls Trilogy
That aint Life
Fucked in the Industry
Hiero Third Eye Vision
Dune Methane
Hiero Full Circle
Shift Shape
Flutes
Solo Triangulation Station
For those who don't know
Dream but don't sleep
-The question i think that's on a lotta people's mind is, where's that new souls? that new hiero?
I wish I could be the guy to come and save the day with all the true to life release dates, but I'll keep it real and say I don't know man. Sorry. I can tell you that the Souls album is done. The Hiero album is almost done, and if you ask me… Them shits is FIRE!!!!
Keep the questions coming!

Hey, Opio. I just have a couple of questions for you that I am curious about.
What are some of the challenges that you face in today's day & age as a hip-hop writer? I know that things have changed alot in the world of Rap/Hip-Hop since Hiero was doing demos and Souls got signed to Jive. Did things seem alot easier in terms of writing music back then, or is it easier now that you are a more experienced artist?

Round 2. ding ding ding.
-'flutes' is called 'halo' on the album release, whats with the switch up?
Sorry about the mix up… Flutes = Halo
my bad cuzzo...
-Will you be performing songs from Vulture's Wisdom in your upcoming tour?
I might be doing some things off of the Vultures Wisdom on the upcoming tour from time to time. But check me when I go out with The Architect, we'll be getting a lot more in depth with our thing.
-How did u get together with ark?
Me and The Architect really started kickin it hella tough at Hyde St. Studios. He was renting a room right next to ours and we would see each other all the time. He was a workaholic just like me & we would come into each other's studios and vibe out to each other's stuff. I really liked where he was coming from as an artist. He was supposed to do some beats on my album but we couldn't connect the dots at the time. Later on he came to me with the idea of us doing an entire album together. He shot me some beats and I was feeling the direction he was going in musically. I already knew he was gonna come with some fire, but he really blew me away. We were both on the same page, so once we actually hooked up we just got right to work.
-Would u like to produce another solo album?
I plan on producing another solo effort. I have some things in the works rt now and you'll most definitely hear my beats on the various releases I'm a part of outside of the Vulture's Wisdom series.
-What are some of the challenges that you face in today's day & age as a hip-hop writer? I know that things have changed a lot in the world of Rap/Hip-Hop since Hiero was doing demos and Souls got signed to Jive. Did things seem a lot easier in terms of writing music back then, or is it easier now that you are a more experienced artist?
Writing is a craft as well as an art form. Over time if you concentrate and work hard to advance you will get better. I have always immersed myself in music and I am constantly trying to elevate my style. I feel that I've become more competent over time as a writer. But I believe it's like muscle memory. I've done so many repetitions that I don't have to think about it as much anymore. It has become second nature. That being said, it is never easy to create. You basically have to make something out of nothing every time you go to work. And you have to be consistent over time to be successful. I do feel that there is an artistic maturity that develops which allows you to recognize where your zone is. It takes less effort to get into a zone on a consistent basis when you have matured as an artist. Artistic maturity in my opinion has little to do with age and more to do with dedication. Dedicating yourself to the creative writing process will surely make you a better writer. But saying its gets easier is not an accurate description

Okay I got a question for you Op.. Can you let us know what exactly happened to the almighty mighty pythons project? and why it never came out?
-I like the vibe and battle shit but are u gonna touch on some life problems or keep it str8 80 proof fire water?
Hip-hop has evolved beyond simply tossing out a bevy of unrelated insults at people in a battle rap. I have grown as a writer, and I try to put as much of myself as I can into each verse. Right now, I'm touching on life problems etc., even when I'm goin in on some 80 proof fire water ish. My vibe and battle shit is focused on life experience and philosophy. I still have other songs that are much more conceptual, as well as some that address life problems directly.
-Okay I got a question for you Op… Can you let us know what exactly happened to the almighty mighty pythons project? and why it never came out?
I hate to speak on this because I cant say when It's gonna come out exactly, and I know cats that are familiar with about the project have been like "What the fuck?!?!?" The almighty mighty pythons project got held up mostly because of our intense touring schedules. Both groups tour about 150 days out of the year… So getting together on a regular basis is quite a challenge. That record is basically done. It just needed some finishing touches. Recently we have been building on trying to get it out soon. I wish I could be more informative. But I hope that helps a little.
Did Souls perform on In Living Color back in the day? Or was that memory a direct result of too much weed on my part back in high school?

Hey Opio. Please keep making that good music. Okay, just two questions:
1. Can u release the original Cabfare on cd? Have it on a one of your mixtape cd's like how u did Masteriece Theatre before u dropped Triangulation Station...just as long as it's the complete song. Pretty please? That song is so dope it deserves a nice clean cd version.
2. Can u guys release Focus on cd? Del did it w/ success w/ Future Development...I think the same would go for Focus as well. Just do a limited pressing like 200 or something. Watch them sell like hotcakes.
Well, thanks for your time. Peace!

Cabfare is a song that has grown in popularity over the years. The demand for that song on CD in undeniable at this point. And I'd like to bump focus on CD too. I think you have a point friend…

I'm blessed man, doin' good. I got nothing but love for the people who've supported over the years. This shit is my pleasure. Me Cas and Pep have always vibed out in the lab. We work well together and have a lot of fun in the studio. I really respect them as artists, so making songs with them always forces me to step my game up. Ah what up Op. This is a late night message to ya. Just came from the club fuckin wit sum hookers and squeezin asses and shit. But yo man happy to see you come thru one mo again with the new album comin. Looking forward to that joint I like the idea of the vids with it to that's kinda fresh man. First and foremost I'm a big ass hiero fan from day one but yo I mess with all kinda hip-hop and other music too. I really feel Self Scientific too man I love those kats. I would love to hear you get stupid over a Khalil beat with Chace on the cum up that's my dream but anyway-
My question is who are some dudes you would like to get down with wheather it's a beat maker or rhyme guy outside the crew?
I love hearing hiero kats get down with other peeps like you and Planet Az or Del and EL-P that's good music. Anyway keep this shit going it's good to see you come back out again. I bumped Triangulation Station so much I put some crazy scrathes in it and had to buy a new one. I want to see the music keep coming we need to hear from Pep and Cas this year and that Soul's joint to keep ears warm in the winter. And y'all kats really need to fuck with Domino for some beats I hope to hear some tracks from him on some future releases.
Peace Up

me and The Architect was bumpin' Diamond D-Stunts Blunts and Hip Hop,
Diamond D just kills the beats on that shit. Still sounds great. Souls really need to do a track with diamond d
Who are your non-hip hop influences?
-I love Bob Marley of course… The Beatles, Fela Kuti, Black Flag, Miles Davis, Parliament Funkadelic, Dead Kennedies, James Brown, Pink Floyd, Suicidal Tendencies, Michael Jackson, Cream, The Ramones, Jimi Hendrix, Bad Brains, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Iggy Pop, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, The Time, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, AC/DC, Van Halen, Duran Duran, The Cure.
Hella more shit but I just named some of my all time favs…
Why did snupe leave hiero? That shit never been clear to me.
-Creative differences homie… CREATIVE differences… We wish him the best.
What do like better: emceeing or producing?
-Emceeing vs. Producing? I love to make beats that shit is fun as fuck! But emceeing is a lot harder in my opinion. You can't be lazy with beats cuz if its wack the whole song will never work, even with a dope ass rap. But a sick ass beat always makes it easy on the emcee. So to be a gifted lyricist, have charisma (swagger), timing, voice, all that shit, is very difficult. I always feel a great sense of accomplishment after recording a song. Much more so than when I finish making a beat. Plus performing in front of a crowd is some real deep shit. So for me personally I like emceeing better.

Whats good opio. i got 2 questions for you brother.
I've had talks with Del on the AIM multiple times. he even had me as a mini protege teaching me a couple production tips showing me the new programs and what not. will you ever do something like this in the future?
Also Op i been a hiero fan since a little dude. your albums always amaze me actualy all hieros albums amaze me. but im stepping a little out of the box here. i spoken to Del on this a while while back. i told him it would be cool to see the Jux, Stones throw, and the Emporium to do a joint record together. like maybe a stop the self destruction record or maybe a whole album or a string of albums. especially. that hiero stones shit. just a thought.
anyways my bad for the long questions.
get at me op. thanks for the great music.
1st off One love to everybody copped the CD/DVD!!! Spread the word!!! Let people know hip-hop is going thru a renaissance. & Peace to all my fam showin love on the Freshly Dipped Tour… My apologies for not getting back at yall sooner, but this rap life gets 10 times more hectic on the road. I appreciate everyone taking the time out to holler @ me.
-past or present, whos your favorite oakland a's player?

-anybody know any guest appearances on VW Vol.1? (I'm not sure what this is relevant)

One love fam, good lookin out! Yea I like them… We've toured overseas together as well.
-When going in the studio to make a new project/album/cd, How do you approach new topics and song titles? Meaning how are you inspired to come up with something new and different without doing things you've done before?
Life experience inspires me. I've seen and done a lot. Been hella places and I'm always observing and trying to peep something new. When I go in to create a song I allow my mind to wander and explore all of those experiences. I draw from them and add my own personal spin on how it relates to the song, rhyme, metaphor, etc.

I don't have a protégé, but I do answer questions and try to help people out whenever I can. In the future I could envision sharing my knowledge of the game with someone who had the potential to do good things with this hip hop shit…
That's a good idea man. I respect those camps and what they're doing. All this negative energy going rt now can't continue. We are headed for self-destruction. I'm always down with educating and elevating the consciousness of the youth.

all i gotta say op is thanks for the reply. thanks for the great music i grew up on and also.
Opio/Madlib Album
Doom/Del(madlib) album (maybe a deltron/Doom because if you going to do something with doom gotta be a concept album.)
Casual/Guilty album
Tajai/ J Rocc and Koish
Souls/Lootpac album (with production by heiro and stones)
Phesto/Oh No Album
A Plee/ MED album
There should just be a revolution wen yall just work. (lol i be sounding like yall are slaves to make music for me) but naw in like the next year a whole barrage of crazy albums like this get popping.
and i already know D has previous relationships with doom. (i think he told me that back in the day he was at sub roc's funeral *i think if i remember correctly*) and yall repping cali. it will be an act of god if this went down. or even some of it. Especialy Oplib and Doomtron and a Casualy Guilty joint too.
