there really isn't a way to get around it. you can try and boot-up in safe mode. just press the F8 key when yer computer is booting up. a menu should pop up in DOS asking you to boot-up in normal mode or safe mode. if yer able to boot-up in safe mode, just go to the control panel and make another account or delete the current account. if this doesn't work, just re-install windows. you prolly don't want anything on it anyways from the previous owner. i hope this helps.

If it's windows 98 or ME you can hit the ESC button and bypass it, if it's windows 2000 or XP you have to re-install windows..

OR you could quit jacking folks for their laptops and buy your own shit.

Just joshing. I dunno... "given" in quotations make you seem suspicious, b. j/k

haha, i was thinking the same thing.. if it was "given" the person "giving" it would at least know the password.. I just fixed my boy's laptop that was "given" and luckily the person who "gave" it to em , didn't have a password

ha ha ha, yeah, well, I didn't exactly steal it. I like to think of it as long term borrowing.

thanks for the feedback, i guess i need to now get a copy of windows and reinstall it. it seems like there should be an easier way though

naw, the point of a login on win2k or xp is for people not to be able to login without a userid/password.. unless you know both, you ain't getting in.. our laptop's at work have a hard drive password, where if u don't know it, you can't even re-install windows.. so whoever steals these are shit outta luck

if you just want to use the laptop and you don't want anything currently on it... just pop in the win xp cd and format the hard drive. then do a clean install of windows xp. forunately, win xp has most of the drivers for all hardwdare so you don't have to try and figure out what video card, sound card, etc is on that laptop. there's many ways to sovle this. i hope that helps.
