POLICE in the region have said they have closed down one of the world's biggest illegal music file sharing websites.
The site is understood to have been operating from a flat in Middlesbrough.
Up to 180,000 people were members of the private website.
They paid to upload and download music, some of it not yet released by record companies.
The home of a 24-year-old IT worker was raided in Grange Road, Middlesbrough, was raided in a low-key operation this morning.
At the same time his father's home and his employer, a large multi-national company, were also raided.

The website's server, which was based in Amsterdam, was also closed down by Dutch police.
The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and infringement of copyright law.
Detective Sergeant Tony Keogh, who led this morning's operation, said the three-month investigation had involved Interpol, the Dutch authorities and the British Phonographic Industry.
He said: "This is an infringement of copyright law that in financial terms causes immeasurable lost to record companies.
"We have been working closely with Interpol and our Dutch colleagues in Amsterdam where the website server is based to ensure that it too was secured at the time of arrest."

But something does not add up. I thought the owner of the site was a lady who was in her late 20's early 30's. And not American.

I agree. They were cunts. But once a year when there was some strange thing posted that I wanted it was nice to get it there. It was great for shit for my phone. But to be honest I think I only used it once or twice in the last 2 years.
But I can no longer use Demonoid either as it got shut down to Canadians a couple weeks ago.
Yo Blame you stocked back up on your releases yet. I want to own a copy of all your shit still. You should post up a thread when you do.

Hell I didn't even find out till I logged onto my computah to check whats up on todays shit. Blame hate to admit I grabbed your latest LP off there but only 'cause I haven't found a copy in Canada, if in when I do see your shit live I'll grab it off ya.

Wouldnt it be pretty easy to look up all the users and hunt them down and ruin there lives? Cant they sue you for like $9000 per song you downloaded or something?

His computer and various other items were taken (including his xbox, but atleast they left the Wii). Later on Dutch Police seized the OiNK.cd servers hosted in the Netherlands. A few hours later OiNK was released on bail, but not charged. His father is fine too, he was not arrested.
Q: Do I have to worry about my password?
A: Passwords have never been stored as plain text anywhere. Only as salted MD5 hashes. Also, police or industry agencies do not care about your password. If it lets you sleep any better, change it on all other trackers and such. But it is not required at all.
Q: Do I as a normal user need to be scared?
A: No. The logs stored were not enough to incriminate any of our users. They have better things to do than hunt down 180,000 Britney Spears fans.
Q: Did you log IP adresses with all the transfers?
A: No of course we did not.
Q: What about those who donated?
A: Honestly, we do not know. Of course you cannot expect to get any donated money back. Accounts have been seized, so far nobody knows whats gonna happen. If you did not donate like thousands of dollars, you should not worry too much.
Q: What about that other admin?
A: The former staff will not comment on any questions regarding the situation of him.
Q: Where can I donate?
A: Stop right there. OiNK has not been formally charged with anything, and it is by no means certain donations are needed. If you see any sites advertising as a "Legal Defence fund", it's probably a scam. If there ever is a need for such a fund, you will read about it here.
Q: Now what?
A: OiNK has been bailed until 21st December pending further investigations, no charges have currently been brought against him. The Police will go through the seized material.
Q: The future of the OiNK community?
A: To be frank? We don't know. None of the moderators had access to either the code or databases, and OiNK's possessions were confiscated. We have a boat, just we don't have anything to paddle with.
