Why would Del release his new album on DefJux when he has his own label? Its cool, but I just dont understand why. Heiro seems to have solid distribution and a built-in fan base. Was the thinking that the album would sell more on DefJux?
the pm: youre in the know. Why is this happening?

I think its because hiero imperium has constant delays, just look at all the releases they have hyped up that STILL haven't been released...
and you can't deny Def Jux has better distribution/promotion... I think its a smart business move.
(I haven't liked very much Def Jux music as of late.)

yea its weird, those guys hangar 18 used to be like the new guys on def jux who were not my favorite and then we booked them and they came and rocked at our event and ever since then, i dont hear much else that i do like from def jux. not saying its bad, just not my stuff. i was learn't at an early that "nerd rap gets the guncalp.." which is some super cheezy gangsta thug shit to say but to me, for me to be into some shit all the way, it need s a little bit of a street edge to it at least.

last couple things I heard from Del werent so good, I hope Def Jux brings him to the funky soul style I remember him as...Im tired of this acid brainwashed sitting on the stage all paranoid style....
and honestly, Hiero is cool, Living Legends is cool and even the fam the Visionaries is cool, but at the same time, let someone else shine already.....I got much love for all these groups but at the same time Im hearing new shit none of these guys can mess with...make way.

well, no one in particular i guess, i just think its kinda funny how these "independent" artists are always capitalizing of tours their friends throw....I like all of the above but I think they just need to make way, If Up Above marketed Deep Rooted as much as they did the Visionaries, Deep Rooted would have a major label deal....I just think some cats need to chill and quit capitalizing off this "underground hype"...especially when they got cats in their own crew signing major label deals....Paid Dues Independent stage???? really???? u seen who/what im talking about...there are a lot of dope artists not getting shine they deserve if you ask me, because certain "underground/ independent" artists are selfish and can't stand knowing there is better music out there....seriously though....even rhymesayers does it...Mac Lethal? i havent heard him yet, but for him to get that much publicity is mind boggling....I WISH BLU WAS ON RHYMESAYERS.

I kinda agree that they have a nice lil racket going with the Paid Dues crew, and yeah it does come off like they're frontin to an extent by the way it's marketed. But you can't blame dudes for carving out a niche and running with it. Dude you know nobody hands you shit in this biz, and it's ridiculous to think any artist is gonna turn down opportunities or quit hustlin as a favor to all the other acts trying to get put on.
I do wonder how some people sleep at night though. It nearly drove me crazy having to deal with college-age clowns, some of these dudes are older than me and constantly catering to kiddies.

The Paid Dues line up IS a group of friends. The whole idea that Murs had behind the tour was that, he went out on the Van's Warped Tour and had a great time and realized that Hip Hop needed something like that. So he started with the Paid Dues Festival, then took it on the road this year. So him and his friends could play daytime shows, be outside and provide a fun and safe environment for kids to come out and see some good hip hop.
Some shows were more successful than others and trust me, it's not like fools became ballers off of the tour.
I have nothing against you pwc, but you are just a delusional fan...it's cool that you want to see your favorite groups/mc's get some shine, but as pm said it;s not like RSE or LL or Hiero is out there stopping Blu or Exile from getting the shine they deserve. I don't think you understand the process of things.
Atmos and RSE built their company from the ground up, Atmos toured incessantly to get that name and brand out there as well, and Slug is a pretty fucking nice dood and would not try to hinder someone from getting theirs...basically RSE started from a little ass company to a full fledged and functioning record label. why would you hate on that?

isn't that the point though of becoming an artist and establishing yourself in the longrun?
If i was a musician and it was my career/source of income, i'd work hard and pull out all the stops to make as much money as i could too... any way you look at it, it's still business and i think these independent artists that are in control of their own stuff and making GOOD money are playing their roles perfectly... so what if there's a business side to it, there has to be.
it sounds like you're wanting people to be broke and starving artists because that's shows the artists struggle but they've clearly built more for themselves overtime and need to progress... everyone starts somewhere but why would they want to be stagnant and not reap the benefits? people are trying to make livings too, you know?... idgi, idgi

Its too bad all these so called underground artists are always capitalizing of tours their friends throw....
If Up Above marketed Deep Rooted as much as they did the Visionaries, Deep Rooted would have a major label deal....I just think some cats need to chill and quit capitalizing off this "underground hype"...especially when they got cats in their own crew signing major label deals....Paid Dues Independent stage???? really???? Independent?????...hhhmmmmm????
Make way you "underground" power hungry, nazis.
I heard from a guy who knows the legends personally and he said that they said that they don't want any other "underground" artists to evar get they shine. Make way is what I say to that. Make way.

creative differences had only been out 3 months when that report dropped..check what I said originally. These are just soundscans anyway. I wouldnt even register on soundscan and I do actually sell CD's..nothing like the legends but im sayin. PWC plays good music. He DJ'd for the deep rooted radio show and around the city. both sides of the brain sold more than a 100K and deltron a lot more than that.. but have you seen cd sales lately? in particular rap sales? full circle did 70K abt 5 years ago.. if del does 50K it would be a success.. back in 00 del sold 11K in the first week which put him at abt 160 in the billboard album charts.. if he sold the same first week number he'd be in the top 60 thats how much theyve fallen

I'm not trying to be a dick and I shouldn't have even responded this much, but you came across as a kid who is just all gassed up on their favorite artists. You came on here talking shit about more established artists and the lanes that they have made for themselves. All of the artists that you named are independent artists and for you to talk shit on them because they are in a place that you wish you or your favorite artist could be in is well, pretty haterish.
The fact that they make music you don't enjoy or "changed up" or "sold out" or whatever is regardless of the fact that, they made themselves..that's what i'm trying to get at. Murs pulled together some of the biggest names in indie hip hop and pulled off the Paid Dues tour which has never been done before...he's doing his part to spread his genre, craft and his friend's music...it was literally history in the making. If you can't get down with the unity in that then, you are just a hater.
