I just bought Overtime today at Amoeba.

I like it. Has a lot of good tracks so it's definitely a good buy.

Haven't heard too much about A Plus' album but I do hear that it's going to be pretty good.

well a-plus' album was a really bad first listen for me.. I was really disappointed..cause I had high expectations.. a-plus has been my fav member of souls/hiero for years.. all the tracks he produced are my fav tracks.. after the initial shock.. the more I listen to this album the more I like it.. a couple of the souls albums were bad first listens and they quickly became my most listened to and fav albums.. this could follow.. i think hearing some of the best tracks b4 i heard the album didnt help.. but theres some great tracks on this..

highlights..
right quik! - classic souls!
far away - this is awesome
kiss the sky- this is one of the best tracks a-plus has done
the one- banger! great track the jamaican flava really works
whats hannin - i love this beat..its a real different track.. slow tempo and comes off nicely

others..
a beautiful thing - i swear casual has been killin it lately.. this is a real interesting beat..great chorus.. great raps
nothin fake/the ultimate - great beats! its a pity the tracks are so short and a-plus doesnt bust over em.. but you know how hiero rolls ..nice!
good time charlie - another solid track

not feeling.. javelin, my dub song

soo overall i'd say its a good album that I need to listen to more.. there is some great a-plus beats on this.. the more serious tracks seem to be the best

The album is pretty good, better than I expected. Of course I expected the beats to be heat, and they were. A Plus is the worst out of Hiero when it comes to lyricism IMO, and he has times where he shines and others where he doesn't. Overall though, another solid Hiero release. Now the long wait for the 11th hour continues!

Fav. tracks: The One, Right Quik, Nothin' Fake/The Ultimate, Good Time Charlie, Kiss The Sky

I can't say he's always been weak on the mic, back in the 93 til days he was really good on the mic. I just think he has regressed a lot since those days. I heard a couple of instances of recycled lyrics from plee on this album that i'd heard before. If not A Plus, then I'd say Casual. Who do you think is the weakest?

you can argue Phesto, he definately puts out the least amount of material...Casual may not be the most consistent, but when he is on damn is he on

i think i would agree with phesto but when you hear him freestyle hes very good, i wud poss say opio. his stuff he does in the studios amazing apart from that i havnt seen him shine as much

Phes is one of the best mc in the crew! If you heard Never No More, the freestyles- as Dan mentioned too-, You never knew, The Who or Maximize 3rd eyes (and list can goes on...), then you know what i'm talking about. Anyway, every mc has his own style. Somebody like that, somebody doesn't. From Phes to Opio, everybody writes rhymes on a high-class level. I like Damani's style the best and maybe Casual's least of all.

Plee's LP: It isn't good as I expected but there are great songs like Right quick, Kiss the sky, Nothin fake, Beautiful thing, Now there you go or Far away. Im not feeling Javelin and Whats hannin even as JC and Ty Nitty...
Does anybody know who cuts on A-P-L-U-S & Beautiful Thing? I hope he's Touré... Or Jay-Biz!!! Unfortunately it's unreality...

Yeah i agree, Phesto is one of the best out of the crew. You can't judge him just on the lack of catalog. Everything he spits is pretty much always lyrical. I stand by my opinion that Plee and Cas are the weaker links of a super lyrical crew. I've just really noticed a "dumbing down" of the lyrics over the years of those two.

Hahaaaa! Secret Weapon... Man, it's the most suitable word  Phes will prove with a great album that he's a unique, a royal mc! "Phes' colossal might on the mic is optimum! ...and hip-hop from the Sequoia Heights populous!"

No Man's Land: I think it's not so horibble as you claim. For example I love Freshdopedope (beautiful production from Jay-Bizzy and good lyrics), No man's land , Time's aint fair, U dont stop or Fo sho fo real. But it's true it's one of the weakest stuff of the Hiero history.

Taking from Okayplayer.com
http://www.okayplayer.com/reviews/index.php/weblog/more/my_last_good_deed/

On his solo debut, A Plus of Souls Of Mischief unfortunately falls short of his name with a collection of 17 tracks of straight up C material. It’s good enough to pass to the next grade, but definitely not something to hang on Mom’s refrigerator.

Most of the lyrics on My Last Good Deed are a little too straightforward and uninspiring, but at times, A Plus delivers a memorable line or two. On the banging “Patna Please” he relates to every car-owning weed smoker with the hook, “Riding through the East, smoking on my weed, I drive with my knees when I’m rolling up my trees.”

The production also leaves a bit more to be desired. There isn’t really a bad beat on the album- but there aren’t any standouts either. There’s a lot of clever dialogue samples used to tie songs together and keep the album flowing from one track to the next. The lyrics and production are at their best on heartfelt tracks like “Kiss The Sky,” “Far Away” and his tales of relationship angst on “Now There You Go.”

Overall, A Plus has crafted a smooth, consistent album. Each track transitions into the next with ease, and nothing seems out of place. Unfortunately, nothing stands out as amazing, and this album will most likely go down in history as just another average rap record.

oh my goodness.. casual is far from the weakest member of hiero. if that's a thought you've ever entertained, then i really don't know what to tell ya. he, pep, and del are on a totally different level than the souls.. the souls as a group is great. as solos, they are all lacking. this has nothing to do with personal taste either.. it is the truth.

Oh alright, just what makes you the all knowing individual anyway. That's why it's an opinion, and my opinion is that A Plus & Casual are the weaker members LYRICALLY in Hiero as of right now. Opio, Tajai & Phesto all shit on Cas lyrically nowadays Smash Rockwell was not a very good album IMO, too much trying to be gangsta shit on it. Well I guess I shouldn't be listening to someone who's quoting MIMS in his signature. Yeah, now I definately know that you are a great judge of talent!

twisted_harmonix

yeah casual, del, and pep are on another level for sure. smash rockwell takes time to get into and catch some of his complex rhyme patterns, but once you get into it, its a pretty amazing album.

hiero's hierarchy of lyricism would have to go something like...

del
pep
casual
opio
a-plus
tajai
phesto

of course theyre all sick as fuck tho.

"smash rockwell" is the best hiero album since "full circle."

i do understand when you say "lyrically" weak.. but not really cuz his rhymes are tight.. he just isn't one of those "lyrically lyrical" types, but his presence, flow, delivery, and overall appeal are all very strong.

i'd say cas is hella lyrical. listen to his shit, he's got 3...4...5... syllable rhymes. virtually no other emcee in the game is doing that. i'd say the only thing he's gotta work on is his hooks, sometimes theyre a little monotonous.
