Jurassic 5 Calling It Quits?
February 16th, 2007 |
College radio legends Jurassic 5 could be finished after nearly fifteen years together. The five-piece collective, who recently released their fourth studio album Feedback without longtime DJ/producer Cut Chemist, remain on tour overseas despite any internal problems. "After the tour, that's basically it," emcee Zaakir told Australian website News.com.au, "I don't want to sit here and fake around with it - we're not seeing eye-to-eye right now."
Despite the success of Feedback, which peaked at 15 on the Billboard 200 off the strength of a collaboration with singer Dave Matthews, the departure of Cut Chemist might be a deciding factor in the break-up. "When it comes down to it, some people here want their own shine, their own thing. If that's what you want, I say more power to you." Cut Chemist's recent solo LP The Audience's Listening was a critical success.
"People see us as a harmonizing, loving group," said Zaakir, "but that's far from the truth."

it was bound to happen.
chali is lightyears ahead of the others. hope to see some good solo stuff from him soon.
kind of a shame tho, because they seemed to be such a tight group and always have fun on stage.

J5 has been done for a little while. Once Cut left. Quality Control is a timeless classic that I will probably always listen to.
Its a shame that they break up right when finally have 5 people in the group.

i think as a whole they work well together (musically that is)... Never really been a big fan. The EP was cool. I don't like Tuna's flow or delivery... sounds like a constipated giant. But whatever, i guess that sucks cause they were a good hip hop group.

They've seemed doomed to me for awhile... when people started jumping off the bandwagon and calling em sell-outs when Quality Control got hot, I figured they were screwed. That shit was pretty much a classic... it would have been tough to top, and seeing as people were dissing em anyway I probably would've packed it in right thurr.
I find the MC's to be boring live, but Chemist and Numark are two of the best live artists I've ever seen.

Isn't that funny? How when people stop being the only ones that like stuff, they dismiss it, and call it wack?

About time, their latest shit was lackluster. Good to see Cut making it solo tho.

I don't think Cut Chemist left, he just wasn't on the last album due to him focusing on The Audience is Listening album. At least that is what he said in an interview: http://www.ohword.com/features/543/cut-chemist-interview
