I was gonna say that but I'm not sure if thats new jack swing or something else. that might be like g-funk/soul or something. he's from LA.

cmon, guys.... think Bel Biv Devoe... Kid n Play... Wrex n Effects...
Big Daddy Kane - "i get the job done"
Wrecks N Effect - "New Jack Swing"
Redhead Kingpin - "Do The Right Thing"
Tammy Lucas - "is it good to you"
Any uptempo song from Guy.
pretty much anything produced by teddy riley (or even heavy d's dj, eddie f.. i think) in the late 80's and very early 90's (all the artists he gives a shot out to in the song "new jack swing")
"the show" was one of the first hiphop records that i remember having a version of that sound.
2-step garage is basically new jack swing beats updated for the house music scene.
as far as kinda new jack swing (same era and danceability factor), i'd recommend:
troop - "spread my wings"
kwame and a new beginning - "only you"
johnny kemp - "just got paid"
chubb rock - "treat me right"
mantronix - "got to have your love"

yep. just look for Teddy Riley credits. it was essentially his sound.
