damn I totaly agree with you guys, everyone is always hating on Anticon I mean peep these videos and you tell me if their shit isn't Hiphop or insanely dope.

why? - "rubber traits" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kbDqN0qYbk4)

and

themselves "you devil you" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=DxSmkbZ_WdU)

Don't expect anyone on this forum to like anything that could be considered "backpack" hip hop. Regardless of whether its good music or not they will hate on it just because it is "nerd rap" and they only listen to mainstream sounding hip hop that is not quite mainstream.

I'm just talking shit.

I don't dislike Anticon, it's just not really my thing...

I've boughten a handful of their releases but have always gotten rid of them... i think i always just expect something different. it's definitely not hip hop (to me at least), more experimental. I'd never say it's bad music, i'd just have to be in the right mood to listen to it and always think i would be willing to give it a shot then do and am disappointed

Ayo, BC, thanks man. That shit was DOPE. Almost kinda Hippie-ish, but yo, he was kinda sorta spittin. "I...dont want to... when I could have gone longer..." Now it's in my head. IM gonna check this guy/or group out a.s.a.p

Once again, props for posting.

Oh yeah.. I can't even classify this as "backpack" or "nerd rap"... this is more like Alternative Hip-Hop, and I like it. Sure, theres no kilos, and noone is stylin on anyone, and nobody has a Mac.. but still, it's hot.

Dude... watch those videos. That shit is not even remotely close to be classified as anything "hip hop" related. I mean, fucking A, watch that Why video... it was incredibly bad.

I didn't watch the video, but then again I am not really a fan of why? to begin with. But I do like some people in anticon like sole, dose one, jel.

Jel's got some of the funkiest beats going
if you can't get into the beats
and you don't think they are hip hop
then i really don't know what to tell ya

Plus these guys are doing some serious instrumentation
funky and jazzed up as fuck
alot of people can't handle dose
but he can cadence as good as any of'em
and his words are sick and poetic

The anticon peep's don't always rhyme
but if you can call an instrumental album hip hop
then the beats alone can usual decide the genre
than there is no doubt
that this album is hip hop

I've been a fan of Anticon for a long time. Dose and Jel's affiliation with the label shouldn't turn a Subtle thread into a discussion about Anticon though. Subtle is on LEX and has been since the beginning. Its not like people still consider Sage Francis as Anticon just because he had one album out on the label. Sure...Anticon fans go looking for Anticon artists on other labels like Mush...but that doesn't make it an "Anticon" release. Anticon...is now more than just the avant garde hip hop label that they had set out to be...its indy rock, experimental, electronica...its the king of sub-genres. Why? is considered Folk-rap-indie-rock. And now its like...you either love it...really love...or fucking hate it. I don't think there are many in-between fans.
Sole is probably the only one who is considered to be still putting out hip hop. Jel and Odd Nosdams solo instrumental albums...are still hip hop. But side projects (or now full-time groups) like Subtle, 13 and God, and Themselves are all very much influenced by but not 100% hip hop. Its Prog-hop.
I can't even call Dosh instrumental hip hop now...its a lot more complicated than that.
Alias...how can you exclude Alias? The Other Side of the Looking Glass is an amazing album...after that though...he had said he was always more interested in producing...and has only released instrumental albums ever since...and that was 2002. Alias and Tarsier...its a beautiful collaboration...his production, her voice and instrumentation (guitar mostly), you can't sit there and say..."oh thats that anticon shit". Anticon doesn't have a "sound" anymore. Alias and Tarsier sound like early Bjork...or like Broadcast. And that kind of music is considered electronica-pop-indie. Basically what I'm trying to say is that people should no longer consider Anticon a hip hop collective anymore. Anticon is not a group...its a label that signs and puts out raw and new music by undiscovered and extremely talented musicians.
Because I stuck with it for so many years...it was easier for me (an underground head for life) to open up and turn into a straight up music lover. Those seeking hip hop will be disappointed...but if its something new and fresh and unlike anything out there...then you just might find something you love.

I still consider myself a fan of some of their stuff. mainly the old stuff. Sole's solo albums are consistently dope. Jel is one of the top 10 or so active producers in my opinion.

I used to go to Anticon night at Rico's loft when that was happening. Some of the better shows I went to around that time (with the guest appearances etc).

I was more into them like 8 years ago so I only really know their old stuff.

Check out:

Deep Puddle Dynamics - "A tate of rain.... " (or whatever the title is)
Them - self titled
Sole - "Selling Live Water" and "Bottle of Humans"

If you can find the "Blood and Gutz" stuff youre a lucky lucky man.

Anything by Alias is gonna have really good production but he raps like total and complete shit in my opinion.

And get any of Jel's instrumental albums.

And Clouddead is pretty good.

These guys arent really affiliated with Anticon anymore but:

Anything by Buck 65 is dope. And Sixtoo is a really really dope producer. He has some instrumental stuff out there.
