His name is BavGate?... Isn't that a blatant rip-off of New York City ghostwriter "Bathgate" (who wrote for Diddy).. who both got their names from mobster Billy Bathgate?... I'm not from the West Coast, nor do I watch Tv, listen to the radio(been 7 years now) But..... I know a bad song when I hear it. He's killing his own credibiliy by begging for radio spins in my opinion. If he were hot enough, the people would be coming in, or calling, requesting for him "On the radio".... Just my thoughts though.

Lol.. Yo.. did you listen to that Bavgate song? Or where you too busy ghost riding your imaginary whip? Chorus- Garbage. Lyrics- Garbage. Beat-Garbage. The majority of the artists from that area are sub par. I listen to everything before I write it off, and if E-40, Bavgate, Federation, Keak Da Sneak, etc are what you have to offer me... I respectfully decline. Not only is that not my culture, it's just plain wack. Wacker than crunk actually. At least Lil Jon got me amped to hear no lyrics. "WHAT!!!" "OKKK!" I was fine with that. Hyphy dudes have the nerve to be mellow and wack. There are probably dudes in Cali now that are angry at this nonsense, the same way New York cats are angry at the South."We can actually spit, and these bums get on?!" Just my thoughts man... Holla.

but anyways........
what is this all about?
maybe some people are superficial.
maybe some folks listen to one track and come to a consensus on an artists whole damn portfolio and lifes work. but who am i to say what the conclusion of all this is...
its ridiculous really. as human beings we all have our own opinions. we all have sounds that spark something from within us. for what reason, who knows. maybe we relate to it. maybe we just like the sound. maybe it conjours up memories from the past. or helps to create new ones. but whatever it is, why are people so quick to dismiss cetain things without thorough insight? maybe they're scurred. maybe they are just conjested from all the bodily fluids they ingested from lupe fiasco's genitalia. but it doesn't really matter. because folks will like what they like. and talk hella shit on everything else. even if they really dont know bout it.
but i know one thing:
I love music. Dont know what the hell I'd do without it. It gets me through the day. All of it. I love it all. If not for the sound then for the simple idea that someone put everything they have into that shit and created something. Even if I'm not feelin it, the inginuity and thought is more than I see in most folks day to day.

I didn't diss "The Bay". Just said that I like my music better. People tend to get offended. You shouldn't. I've noticed that this is predominantly a Californians messageboard, and that's cool. I also don't live in Chicago. I'm from Jersey. Disrespect Redman or something. Anger blinds people, as if I personally attacked them. I guarantee you, that the artists we're defending, don't know we personally exist. And thanks for the responses to the "Gangster" question. And as for you Harmonix... you are way too fluent with adjectives and adverbs concerning homosexual acts. How many times here have you mentioned someone "ingesting someone elses genitalia"? It's rather childish, and pathetic. Can you not have a simple discussion without that kind of inane nonsense? Guess not. As for the "thorough insight"... After watching that Bavgate video on Youtube 3 times.. I came to the same conclusion. Him begging for radio play is not only demeaning to himself, but it was a pathetic song in its own right. Not even worthy of a radio parody. I'm done. Holla.

Ok... did a decent little run-through for Tha Instagtor LP by Bavagate. To be fair I give all tracks at least 45 seconds, unless they suffer from wackocity syndrome. Here's my Synopsis.
Keeping It Gangsta- Kinda Wack 2/5
Skit- Not really funny. 1/5 Sounds like he stole the idea from Ludas "Chicken and Beer" album.
Im Rich- Ok at best.. wack chorus. 2/5
Sucka Fo Hoes-Bad, bad song...Funny Though... 1/5
Touched- Beat had potential. 2/5
Bang From The Town- Damn all these beats sound the same so far... 2/5 The nigga said "Im Hot like Hot potato"....
It's Hot- This is super wack...1/5 "I grab my boost mobile, and give you a call"....
Skit #2- 3/5 Gotta love haters. They always make a good skit.
Hoe's- 1/5 another average song. Average chorus.
Committed- 2/5 ^ same description, he just has even wacker stuff. I hope that's Juvenile, and even he's still spittin the same corny shit.
Lock Down-2/5 Even Bavgate doesn't sound like he believes what he's saying sometimes. So boring and unenthusiastic.
Back On Up- 1/5 I swear to God I just heard this beat earlier on the album...
This City- 3/5 Best beat on the album. He actually sounds like he's trying. "This city aint big enough!!"
How We Do It-2/5 Game does his usual name-dropping shit, and Bav on his borin shit. another wack chorus.
Tha Ghetto- 2/5 I'm hearin shit... I heard this beat like 3-4 tracks ago... wack, wack, wack!
Skit#3- 1/5 Walkie Talkie bullshit talking skits... boooooo
Black Mafia- 3/5 2nd best beat on the album... I guess. He sounds a little more into this song. "I'll leave 30 slugs in ya park and cober hat"
There we go... his album, on an even scale is 2 out of 5. Meaning average/ needs work. He does have a few bright spots, a little bit (and I mean a little) bit of potential, but it's wasted over these overly wack redundant West Coast beats. He needs to fire his producer(s). Lil Wayne sounds much better over East Coast instrumentals, maybe Bavgate would too. Or would that ruin his Bay credibility? I dont know. Very average album though.
twisted_harmonix
10-31-2006, 08:55 AM
fair enough.
i dont see how you can say that the production is weak and the beats sound the same but i guess coming from an east coast head that is understandable.
i think fans of west coast hiphop will dig it more. its by no means a classic but it does have some bangers that thump in the ride and some real laid back type of flows to go along with it.
glad you gave it a listen tho. it grows on you.

Ignorant.
1. you dont have to buy i-tunes. It's free to everyone with or without an i-pod.
2. I-tunes is a great program for organizing and using your music.
3. My i-pod has 30 gigs of storage. Whatever you bought for $25 isnt coming close to touching that.
4. i-pods are the shit. I hook it up to my home stereo and to my car stereo. Rolling around with 30gigs of music at your fingertips is heaven.

I just see no need to carry around a massive amount of music. I don't listen to all the music in my house [U]now] all the time. 256 mb- about 100 songs is enough for me, especially for a day's activities(Work, working out, etc) I also have a really simple adapter so I can put into a car (If I had one). I just look at Ipods as a status symbol, like buying a Mercedes. Most people dont even like Mercedes'... they just get them to show they have money. Ipods are in the same vein in my opinion. Not saying you, because Im sure you have a wealth of music on it.. and maybe you [U]doU] want your entire collection at your disposal. I just don't find it personally necessary.Especially not when I have two jobs, bills, and other things to pay for. I'm most definately not. Skimmin' it a tiny bit yea, like pg 1, by 2 I gave up and just see it's come to Ipods now.
Sides, I'm on your side, I just think this thread is like smashing your head into a wall.
I hate when ignorant people argue. I kill myself.

maybe some folks listen to one track and come to a consensus on an artists whole damn portfolio and lifes work...
Ummmmm....MF Doom anyone? You do the same thing with other artists, as do I, as does everybody else...I just find it funny how you're all about "music and creativity" and all the other stuff you said when you do the exact same thing, but to an even further extent than what people are saying about Bavgate. Look at your little title, MF DOOM assasin..how many times have you typed FUCK MF DOOM hella big?
and if i'm childish by pointing out your groupie-esque infatuation with lupe then so be it. but i can easily come up with a couple dozen west coast emcees that'll rip that fool to shreds.
Dude, your groupie-esque infatuation with Bavgate is childish. I've never seen Fullmetal start a thread about how Lupe needs to be on the radio and a bunch of other shit.
BTW
Lupe > Bavgate
and to your comment about Bavgate being a big name in a few years...
I'm sure that's what he though when he was on No Limit....like 10 years ago :D

I just found out something, Harm, Bavgate sounds good as hell when I'm about to hit the sack (after a slim-fast of course) Might have just found me sleepytime cd of the moment. Move over Mf Doom... welcome Bavgate.
