Alright, I've got something to say.

I know a lot of people download music. The industry is changing and people want digital music on demand. It makes perfect sense.

This site is funded by people who buy music. The hosting isn't cheap, and the forum software isn't free. The store also provides a living for our employees and the artists. We don't make a lot of money, but we love selling good music. We hope to continue doing that.

But would you walk into a store and ask the owner where to find the products he's selling for free? Maybe that's cool with a huge corporation, but we're a small shop that fights to stay alive.

I'm not asking you to stop downloading music. I'm not accusing any of you for not supporting us (many of you do). I could delete this thread but I won't. All I ask is that you show some respect to the artists, and the people who pay for this online community.

Peace,
Tony Polis

oops!!but in all reality what about artists having respect for the listener.spending $20 on a cd full of fillers and maybe 2 or 3 good tracks on it isnt my idea of fun.id rather d/l it first and if i like it then purchase.the market is so saturated with bullshit that people want to know what they are getting before they purchase it.

would you buy a car without going for a test drive?

would you buy clothes before trying them on?

Testing driving cars is not the same as downloading full albums. The difference is that you return the car to the owner after you've tested it. You do not take possession of the car until you've paid for it.

That's cool if you buy the album later, I have no problem with that. But how many people that do this end up buying the album?

And for the record, my views do not represent all of the employees at Access. I'm not sure what their opinions are about this thread. But coming from the guy who's spent countless hours developing and maintaining this site, I felt like saying something.

When you download an album for free, you don't ever have to pay for it, and you can distribute it for free without the artist ever seeing a dime.

mmmmm..this

my bad, I didn't notice it until you brought it to my attention. That wasn't intentional - it was suppose to go in my response.

an artist's musical output and quality (or in this case- filler) is one thing, but the $20 a pop for cds is a result of going through so many channels before getting to your hands.

i would say the major labels are the ones to put most of the blame on as a high label price only gets worse as then it has to go through both distribtors and record store mark-ups before the final price is set. sometimes one-stop distributors buy their product from other distributors resulting in an even higher mark-up. it's a trcky business selling music these days.

itunes is a good site to find the albums you want at a decent price but for people like myself i'd rather go support a record store as i want all the artwork and i like to read all the credits, and downloadable sites (legal or not) don't give that to me.

that's my two cents.

I use a pickle jar with a flynet over it, with an opening into which I insert a rubber hose. Then I point it towards Cali and about 45 degrees vertically, I usually catch a coupla songs by the next day.

Unless your looking to download something you saw on MTV or old shit that you don't want to track down anymore (in hip hop) that has already made its money...use what you want...but, don't download indy music...of anykind for that matter...support your local record stores, by some used cd's and support those stores too...I don't care if its called 'stealing'...if people frown upon you for downloading music...just remember this is why some lesser known artists are struggling to make ends meet...because your on some file sharing shit that gets you thier music...thats great...maybe you'll burn a couple cd's to give to your friends to say 'hey check this shit out'...hopefully those people will be inspired to go buy the full album...or catch the artists/band at a concert or live show in their area the next time they roll through. But thats all wishful thinking...hoping that the word of mouth will outweigh the music downloading and file sharing...music will be around forever, its a universal language...but the people that deserve to be in those timecapsules won't be, because we're in the age of pirating...and a lot of talented people are suffering from it.
