word... i feel that shit that b cause does with hyphy acapellas over old school funk.

it seems though, that everybody and their moms is doing mash ups now, and a lot of people just end up putting things together that sound better as an idea than when actually executed.

Co-sign. Shit is generally wack.

Dude I spun with on Sat. played a Tell Me When To Go/Rock It mash up. I was embarrassed to be in the same room.

When its done well, I mean really well, I really like them a lot. They are often done by DJ's that dont really know what they are doing though and it just doesnt sound right. Like that Dilla blends mix that someone posted up, at first listen on my computer speakers it sounded kind of cool, Dre and Snoop over a dilla beat, but when I got it home and bumped it I noticed all the flaws. It wasnt done very well.

most DJs whove been "spinning" for a week suck at it. My pal "Everfresh" and his partner in crime D. Red do some reeeeel nice mash-ups.

Bedowyin Sound Clash/Some classic Rasta beat (not the blow job betty one, but kinda) sounded amazing. I hated BSC till I heard that.

I don't know, they do a lot of mashes that sound really propper, and I have a good, impatiant ear to pick up on wack shit quick.

I think people are using the term "mash up" to mean both DJ blends and PC bullshit in here... if it's actually two records being mixed that's not a mash up, that's just DJing. To me mash ups are the PC-produced wackness where you could tell somebody had to chop shit up...

I gotta say though that it's funny how people go ape shit when you mix different genres of music well.

yeah... i guess mash-ups could be interpreted differently.

i was kind of referring to the shit that the rub and hollertronix djs do... mixing different genres of music.

ah, OK, I was under the impression that a mash up was 2 different genras put together.

I havent touched my decks in near a year, but I've been DJing parties and clubs since 2001. I just don't want you to think I'm some groupie type going ape shit.

Then, as far as mash ups go, never heard one.

A mash up is the vocals of one record and the music from another. Either record could be any genre of music.

people in san diego dont like that sort of thing unless your name is ztrip.. they either like:

hip hop and dont like jungle
underground and dont like mainstream
house and dont like hip hop...etc etc etc

picky, picky, picky

that's just a re-mix or a mix. When vox are over a track they weren't originaly on.

like if I mix Still Tippin' vox over the Hip Hop beat by DP.

My favorite mashups are Richard X and 2ManyDJ's. It's more like heavy sampling, vocals over other beats- LIVE- which is awesome. You're listening to 4 songs at the same time, and they all go together. So good!
As heard on Radio Soulwax Vol. 2 is the best on of 2ManyDj's
