View Full Version : Does the Hip in Access mean "Hippie"?

I know Access is close to San Fran, but when i saw they had the vinyl version of 'Brian Jonestown Massacre' Tepid Pep...i had to think that the hippies are creeping into the store. I hope this doesn't continue with Greatful Dead albums and ish. It musta been a good summer, but maybe a little too much of the holly, lucy & jenn?.....wtf?
i still gotta huge list of things i need from ya'll real soon, but none of that groooovie stuff.

In the grand scheme of things (the vastness of the Universe etc) I suppose San Diego and San Francisco are fairly close....

Hippie-Hop is a kind of Hip-Hop, thus is they have it at Access Hip Hop.

What is it farther than i thought? Cali none the less. I'm all the way in ChiIL and never been to the state. Just saying it is a suprise to see BJTM in the store. Their more psychedelic pop than anything. Just strange and a bit funny to see that. Thought maybe it was an error? My geography sucks, no doubt.

The dead have a few fantastic moments i think. Even though i am not a fan of theiers, i have recently seen Jerry Garcia in a floor tile while playing the bass......weird huh?

san fran is about 8 hours from san diego.

i'm not sure what this post is really about. are you insinuating that we're not "hip hop" because we have a couple releases that don't fit your expectations of what we should carry? i love the brian jonestown massacre, does that make me less hip hop? i ordered a couple copies of it on vinyl for myself and we ended up getting twice the amount, so we figured put it on the site, maybe someone else would dig it.

i dunno, we carry a few misc releases here and there that don't quite fit into the hip hop category, but i view it all the same. it's good music.

everyone thinks it's funny whenever a random (albeit good) release ends up in our store. some guy the other day tripped out because we had that Kashmere Stage Band in the shop. you guys sell this kind of stuff??!!!

truth is, we have carried things from Kraftwerk to Sade to Lonnie Liston Smith to David Axelrod, etc etc.

i realize bjm is different than the aforementioned artists and they might not all be hip hop but i'd just expect some people to be into more than just hip hop these days.

anyway if anyone's going to see BJM at the casbah this thursday i'll see you there....

HAHAHAHAHHA.....if you haven't seen a jam band live(PHISH,GREATFUL DEAD..ect) Then all you "MUSIC FANS" are missing out. The play for like 4 hours and they paly all kinds of music yes even hip hop some times. When was the last time you saw your fav hip hop artist play for 4 hours...never. TRUST ME go check out a jam band next time there are in town....hint hint you might find a girlfriend there. There shows are crawling with fine ladys.

this is quite possibly the strangest thread that has ever popped up...I demand someone to lock it up:mad:

Same negative people poke their heads in and say the same stupid shit.
Yawnnnnn, to hardcore gangsters like Destroy
Great come back "close my legs", very funny stuff. Yawnnnn.
Do you have anything better than shit talking ever time you post. Those attitudes must come from all that great positive feeling, quality hip hop you are listening to.
Geographically it's all Cali to me (vroom-vrooooom). If you don't think your close, than you are smaller than i thought.

Speaking of good music outside the realm of hip hop:

TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

theres a kick ass remix by el-p on a track. Destroyerman, Legopenerdude, and Twistharmony....i really think ya'll would dig the groovie tunage.

Cali may be all one state to you...but your original post makes it sound like you assumed Access is close to San Fran...as in a few hours drive.

If you'd checked here http://www.accesshiphop.com/about/ you would have seen that Access Hip Hop is actually located in SD, only around 25 minutes from Mexico (Now thats a good example of "close to")...you basically posted before thinking, and tried knocking Access for offering people some alternative music choices. You set yourself up for all those negative responses. Cali covers almost the entire West Coast of the U.S...San Diego is 10hours away from San Fran...in 10 hours do you know how many states you could pass through traveling the same distance on the East Coast...from Florida to NY...they are in no way close to eachother, that was the point people were trying to make with juvenile put downs in response to your post...doesn't hurt to look at a map...and if it was an attempt at humor...it was a lame one, thats all. Don't hate us. Its only the internet:D

Fuck geography, that was just a wash
i know access is in San Diego
i've giving them probably $3000 worth of business, easy
ask Mark or Scott
It was all in jest about them having a psychedlic pop band on their shelves.
thought i'd get a response like.
"ahhh, we fucked up and the distributer gave us the wrong title".....or somethang like that.
Instead i,m getting Cali geography 101
And i will never visit Cali so why should i care what place is next to what.
i don't care what Chicago is next to.
i'm on a bike, so i haven't left the city in a year.
just making a crack about BJTM, they are not hip hop at all.
And only asking, why is it in the store?

it looks like you answered you're own question. yet you took it upon yourself to come on here and ask anyway, at that, taking a jab at us for your own expense. and then to start complaining to all the people who find time to correct you about cali's geography. i mean the "joke" itself, it's just bad taste in my opinion, but hey whatever floats your bike. but once you see all these people chiming in, don't you think to just say, "hey i was just kidding guys, just curious why...?" but instead you get defensive. why should you care about cali's geography? because when you make an asinine statement like "i knew cali was close to san fran" or it's all the same to me...it just doesn't make sense.

it seems like everyone gets all prissy whenever we (or most times i) order something off the hip hop radar, albeit something not even hip hop.

i'm really sorry, but i listen to things outside of hip hop and because i am a buyer, i order things for myself now and then that aren't even something we would normally carry. that's the beauty of being a buyer, i can order the things that i want and not get shit about it.

so shame on me for figuring hey, instead of going through the trouble of sending the extra records back, why not put it up and see if there's anyone out there with an open ear. but my instincts were wrong.

so yeah you caught me, i'm a fucking hippie working at a hip hop store. i'm also one of the people here responsible for ordering the albums you so earnestly seek out.

that's what i also love about being a buyer, especially when people such as yourself can call and ask for something semi out of the ordinary or something most people wouldn't ordinarily pick up and be able to feel good that i made an effort to get in in the store. that makes my days worth it.

but i guess it's just not that appreciated.

we're not perfect.

but anyway, actually we're gonna stop ordering hip hop from now on and start carrying nothing but brian jonestown massacre. we're gonna change ourself to the hippie connection! and i will not stop until each and every one of you have been sold a BJM record.

oh wait, i'm just joking.
